Just FYI, I asked CEX once what mint was and they require a brand new sealed item to get the mint price. Same for electricals when they offer grade A, it has to be a brand new sealed item to get the A price.
They always unseal the games to check it out in the store. I know only because I’ve taken in sealed DVD’s and they always unseal everything to take the disc out.
Same happened with these Rule of Rose games they had in stock. People took in brand new sealed games and that’s how they got the mint price.
Why you would take a sealed game to CEX and not sell it on eBay is debatable most of the time, so that’s why you never see many ‘mint’ offerings on CEX website.
so buy sealed game which is potentially worth hundreds to trade into cex. cex open said sealed game so it loses a good portion of its value and then they say yay thats mint well done. its stupid i cannot wrap my head around why anyone would take in a sealed game to cex instead of outright selling it themselves.
@@emilypops1911 CEX told to unseal the games as obviously people do reseals themselves, so they need to make sure the disc and manual inside and its a genuine new item for ‘mint’.
I guess if people do property clearance and when someone dies with loads of sealed games they didn’t get round to playing maybe then they might just take them all to CEX to get whatever they can quick.
But most people know sealed games generally worth a lot more on eBay and would sell them private. Massive waste taking them to CEX imo.

The xbox 360 is a prime example of hindsight working in my favour. I've been collecting for the 360 between 2006 to 2008. Then after I got an Xbox 360 slim long after my original red ringed on me I carried on collecting from 2011 till this day. With over 700 + games collected for it I've pretty much got everything I could want for it. Still a handful I've left to get though. It's definitely a 5050 situation with the price difference with or without manuals.
damn you got lucky then i just wish i started collecting 360 a year earlier than i did because the prices were rediculously low i did have a few games then but maybe like 20/30 so not many and a good portion were from wehn i was younger. i aspire to have 700 xbox 360 games tho
@@emilypops1911 it is ridiculous how expensive some of the 360 games got in recent years. Oh definitely. I didn't even plan a garguiuatun collection for the 360 it just went on to become one of the best consoles I ever played so I just wanted to keep buying for it. Aaaw I'm sure youl reach that many plus more eventually. Luckily I'd say about 75 percent of the total game library is still really cheap and affordable to get.
With all disc based Systems I´m genuinely baffled that apparently so many manuals get lost that a significant price difference even can become a thing in the firs place. I can understand a small-ish price difference of 2-10 € / Pound depending on how rare a given game is in general, but above that it feels really weird given that any CD / DVD/ BluRay case should make it easy to keep these manuals with the game.
Mint games will be more common than you think. Since the XBOX360 and PS3 generation, many gamers have kept games sealed because they have been able to play and own games digitally through Games with Gold/Game Pass and PlayStation Plus!
i suppose youre right about that but what idiots are trading in sealed games to cex for them then to open it when they could probably sell it for more on ebay lmao

I have a lot of sealed games. Only because I won't open them until I'm ready to play them! And like most gamers these days.... my backlog is so huge, that by the time I'm ready to play them, they'll be dirt cheap digitally or offered to us free on subscription service. But I'm a sucker for physical media that I'll keep hoarding! 🤣
Some wild price jumps there. Of the two I have, Velvet Assassin was a flat £35, now 40/45 (mild jump), whereas Bioshock Infinite Complete was £32 (!), now 60/75! They were both lagging eBay before, so I suppose I have an easier way to sell if I want. Sad about your Spiderman one, strange they would send one down.
(even stranger with that Bioshock edition - the base game is still £1.50! So that's valuing the manual and on-disc DLC at £73.50 more. Collecting eh? lol)
yeah some price jumps have been absolutely insane and that bioshock is stupid unless cex has been lacking in price compared to ebay and theyve finally decided to catch up but charging that much for the DLC is stupid;

I’ve bought an around 8 or 9 manuals off eBay lately for dirt cheap and now I’m only missing maybe 1 or 2 out of all my 304 games. I need the manual for Ninja Blade but I must just buy another copy and trade my other one in.
i actually need to go through the games ive got that need manuals ive even got a couple games that i have duplicate manuals for for some reason
@@emilypops1911 I’ve had cex give me double manuals before and they just shrug it off when I tell them.
It sucks they do this but won't actually adjust pricing for repro covers
i know i know but either way theyre stopping reprinted covers for the 360 next year so i wont have to worry about it then
CeX will never adjust the price lower for repro covers.
They can sell you a repro at full price but you can’t sell them a repro at full price
i know theyre never gonna do it but they really should and with 360 theyre supposdedly stopping reprinted covers for the console next year so that will no longer be a worry for me
I know what you mean by video game prices fluctuating all the time. You win some you lose some, but in the end it shouldn’t really matter the cost if it’s a game you want to play and not use it as a future investment to resell. lol. You’d think so but knowing CEX they won’t do it. Shocked my when it increased to £110 literally a week ago and then 2 days later was back to £98 with all the new manual and mint things
@@emilypops1911 i dealt with the pricing team a bit with the new rarities change on 360, the prices were based off a few factors and comps for manual only sales, cib sales, etc and then comps for our own ecom results. web of shadows will go up in time, but it being out of stock won't make it go up :)
the reprinted cover solo price would never happen though, far too many factors
CEX have tons of Rule of Rose on ps2 in mint condition, charging nearly £500, Kuon on ps2 is £600 and sold out, should rule of rose be £500? There's copies for around £300 on ebay new in wrap.
rule of rose should deffo not still be as much as it is but to be fair to cex they have been decreasing the price since more and more people are trading in their sealed copies for a profit

I would imagine ps3 games are not far behind. If ps2 vs xbox has rarities section than ps3 will go toe to toe with xbox 360
absolutely i predict next year we will get the ps3 rarities with it being a year before cex classify the console as retro
@@emilypops1911 Most likely. I already have several games that i got that would probably qualify as such.
The main issue is that once a game is listed as a rarity the price of it remains permanently high. basically 40 or above and there is no going back.
As i and many others perdicted. if u want to get the games still cheaply, you got to get em now as once they are listed as rarities, everyone in the know will resell at that price and more.
