  • So the Faulty Door Lock issue has appeared again on my MK2 Leon Cupra R.
    This is a common issue with the door locking modules on a lot of Seat's, Audi's and VW's.
    The car will be unlocked, but when you go to open the door of the faulty door module, it won't open from the outside, just from the inside. This has happened to two of my four doors already, and using the method in this video, I managed to get them working again. So hopefully it will work again on the 3rd door (front passenger door).
    All steps are detailed in the video. Hope you find it helpful if you have the same issue on your car.

    Same thing here. Seat leon 1.8 2009, both front and one back lock, fixed. Thanks a lot for the help. The back lock needed to soak overnight to start working again. So if anyone tries and it does not work at once, please don't get disappointed.

    Just wanted to send a 'thank you' in your direction. I had this problem on my Seat Leon... Nightmare getting kiddies in and out of the car. Followed your steps on my lunch break... Sorted in a half hour (I worked the WD40 into the lock by locking and unlocking from the inside several times... Instant result). Thanks again 👍

      So you didn't have to drill a hole in your door lock for yours to fix? As it's a little daunting drilling into it. My driver door is playing up but i can still open manually by inserting key to door from outside. Considering just spraying wd40 onto the side of door without taking trim etc off

    Never had this happen to any of my Leon's, FR's, Excellance and now a Mk4 FR, But one of my older ones, I think it was a Mk2, had an issue of the windows not opening when the remote unlock was held, this was cured with a sequence of presses on the window switch. Maybe there is something like this for the locks as well. Just a thought.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the comment Tony, yeah on some occasions something like that may solve the issue.
      The majority of the time, when I looked further into it, was the failing of a microswitch, that the wd40 seems to free up, and keep it working for just a wee bit longer. And fortunately for me, the 3 doors I've had issue with, are original units, now repaired and still going strong 😁💪🏻

    Worked for me thanks, I was hoping / dreaming it would cure at the same time the issue I'm having with the car randomly locking and unlocking itself whilst driving also the radio will turn off at the same time as the locking / unlocking happens, any ideas what that's all about?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephen, good to here it sorted the non opening issue, but sorry to hear ur still having further electrical issues.
      There's a self lock function in the menu on the Speedo in some models, which may be activated and that's locking ur doors while moving, but that wouldn't explain the radio issue though. Maybe someone has messed with obd coding previously in the car before you had it? Or has it suddenly just started doing this? Maybe there's a damaged area on the loom somewhere? I'm afraid I'm not too sure exactly what it could be, sorry 🙁

    • @stephen3654
      @stephen3654 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NorthCoastWorkshop yes it's one that self locks at around 15mph and yep it's just started doing it (I've had it over 10 years) it can suddenly decide to unlock for example going 70 down a motorway and lock again randomly and it usually coincides with the radio turning itself off, I can turn it back on and it might turn itself off again after a few seconds. Then it might not show this problem for weeks. I've searched online for it and seen it's happened to a handful of owners but there has been no remedy for it, some have suggested a switch issue, one has pointed out its worse after rain which I 'think' I can confirm and so probably an earth somewhere. One thing I wonder about is the switch on the centre column with a picture of a key on, this I believe lights up when it automatically locks as it should at 15mph to show it's locked, and I can unlock it at this switch at anytime but I've never been able to lock it at this switch and I would expect to because after all there is no other way of locking the doors if say you're about to get murdered by someone outside with a knife, this switch has never been able to lock, I'm assuming it should yes?

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephen3654 yes it should lock and unlock from that switch, so that would be a starting point, but yeah if rain is making the issue worse, it could be the wiring under the bonnet getting damp and triggering actions that it shouldn't. Electrical issues are always the worst, mechanical issues are a piece of cake compared to them.

      It's pretty much exactly the same method, just it'll be a slightly different angle because of the shape of the door. Again though, remove the smaller panel, and drill a small hole at the top of the module and fill with WD-40. Worked on my rear door a few years ago, and has worked perfectly since then 👍🏻

      Hi Ömer, I think once that happens the module has completely failed and will need replacing I'm afraid. They range from about £25 for a used unit to maybe £60-90 for a new one.

    Very interesting video. Thanks. I have a 2009 LEON 2.0 FR and recently have been having problems with being unable to open some car doors. I had the actuators on the two front doors replaced at £300 each. Now I have temperamental issues with the back doors. However, I have not done anything yet to get it fixed. Now I can't lock the near side back door. Any thoughts about what I can do without spending another fortune? Thanks.

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mate, cheers for watching and commenting on the video. Yes, you can try the same technique on the rear actuators too. Although they normally give the issue of not opening from the outside, there are other times they won't open or lock from the inside.
      If you pop off the inner panel of the rear door card (it's very tough to pull out, but it will come out eventually) then look inside , up towards the actuator, it's just the same thing as the front. Drill a small hole very carefully into the top, spray in some WD-40 and hopefully after a maximum of 24 hours it'll be working.
      If you can see any part numbers while you're there, take a note of it, and if it doesn't start to work, u could order a replacement from eBay, they're about £35 2nd hand. And if u weren't keen on fitting it urself, I'm sure a local garage wouldn't mind.
      Hope that's of some help for you 👍🏻

      Possibly a connector has come loose during the process? I don't think the issue could be that you've damaged the insides, as it wouldn't unlock either if it was broken. Not sure what else could affect it. Unless the unit is sadly just beyond repair.
      Lastly it may rectify itself over the next 24 hours 🤞🏻

      Hmmm, I'm not too sure what that'd be. Sadly I'm not too clued up on the diesel engines. The glow plugs, I believe, only operate for starting the engine. It could be a boost issue, a sensor of some sorts maybe failing.

      Hi Martin, yes this is definitely worth trying as I've heard it has worked for both outside and inside opening issues.
      Even with the door still closed, you'll be able to remove the inside section of the door card and try this fix on the door module, using WD-40.

      You may have to try and remove the unit from the locking system and do it on the worktop. Apologies as I wasn't aware the design of the TT door meant it wouldn't reach the module. That is really frustrating.

    Well, i tried this and it unlocked it pretty much immediately. The issue is now it won't actually lock. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with me drilling too deep, or soaking it with too much WD-40 😬

    • @NorthCoastWorkshop
      @NorthCoastWorkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Drilling too deep usually means it will stop working completely, so I don't think you've done that. Too much WD-40 isn't an issue either, as when I do mine it's pretty much flooding out the hole at the top .
      Give it a little time, they sometimes sort themselves out and work properly, or the unit itself may have been too far gone and a 2nd hand unit is required. New ones are extortionate, so I'd recommend 2nd hand from a reputable seller.

      It sounds like the fuel sender unit is on its way out.
      It may come as part of the low pressure fuel pump as well which could make it expensive.
      Try to see if it does the same thing with just the ignition on, but don't start the car. If it does possibly it's an electrical fault/relay, which would be a lot more awkward to trace. At least if it's a faulty sender unit, it's easier to switch out for a replacement.
