That Cradily play was literally insane
He fucked it up letting his fire type die but then that play so pog it more than made up for it
That game was pogging in multiple directions. ended up closer than it needed to be because of the miss on the hard-earned Steam Eruption read, but that was worth it for Cradily Pog.
The urge to backseat game is incredible, but also he's very enthusiastic and having a great time and I love it. He's northernlion, the ultimate big brain, he learns quick.

Am I missing something? Stone Edge was the strongest move in that situation.

@@sergnb0 80% accuracy, but also benefits from the 50% same-type boost whereas Earthquake wouldn't.
@@Ev1LDragonFly earthquake and stone edge both 1hko cinderace at +1 attack, it didn't matter. the actual misplay was cinderace's ability libero which changes its type into the move it uses (in this case HJK, so actually cinderace was fighting type) but NL could not have known that. BUT the biggest tragedy of that scenario was sinvicta letting tyranitar wipe everything on his team when he had a cinderace which was always faster than t-tar and could kill it in one shot :^]
This is so good, watching him react to every Pokemon past Gen 1 and losing his mind at all these classic moves is incredibly fun. He's not bad at the game either!
He's pretty damn good for a guy who's main source of pokemon knowledge in recent years is Pokemon GO

It’s so weird he’s actually got a lot of predictive intelligence and knows what’s good when he just managed to mix up special defence and speed a little too early in his career
Apollo's perfectly cut "THE F-" was amazing. Also the banter between battles made me flash back to younger days, when not all of us had Internet and we were just comparing our Pokemon games, sharing the secret cool legendaries we found with each other. Good times, hope to see more Pokemon in the future

Yeah he said in his stream he definitely doesn't want to go that route. He prefers randoms. Chat has just about convinced him to do a nuzlocke though.
If you think Ryan kicked butt now, just wait until the training weights come off and he realises that it's actually Ground that Electric is weak to, not Rock. Then you'll all be sorry.

Pokemon is a skill-based game
It's worse than that, Paralysis is only a 25% chance to make you unable to move per turn so he it was 5 1/4 losses in a row
Which is a 1/1024 from the paralyses alone
I just watched RT's video on the tournament and was disappointed you two were so far removed in bracket and never got to run into one another. Would've loved to see you two interact, if only briefly. Still really hyped for a little bit of Pokemon content, would be amazing if you attempted a Nuzlocke like Dan is doing. Would be a great banter engine while grinding!

Love that NL is so willing to try out new stuff these days, been loving the content for many years and just so proud of how far we've come- up down to the side welcome to the lion pride

Please make more of these videos. I loved this so much that I watched it start to finish for the full 1.5 hours. I meant to do other stuff while watching but I was so enthralled by the Egg's Poggy Plays that I couldn't look away.
honestly for someone who has so little Pokémon experience NL does really well, and seeing him get so excited over little things is refreshing since i cannot for the life of me get hype from playing Pokémon battles anymore. absolutely pogged out of my gourd
watching NL play pokemon is like watching a penguin try to fly. he'll be scary next year if he tries though

It really helps that he uses the perfect information he has to great effect. Some of those swap reads in the Baer battle were really on point.

Tbf, he did get paralyzed like 4 turns in a row earlier against jolteon.
Should watch the man fight the shrieker in dd. Man hit all sub 60% and 50% shot except 1
he also missed a 95% accuracy one shot against the rotom
Those paralyses weren't super important, he had to get it 2/3 times in a row to die. He'd got way more unlucky with the paralyzes before and Volcanion missing his 95%

As someone who's been left behind by the Pokemon series, it was refreshing to feel relatively as if I knew everything.

This is my favourite video on your channel. My poggers bucket is overflowing. How Cradily beat Ferrothorn, and getting frozen but eating the lum berry are great highlights.
never thought I'd see this. this is pogged. so glad to see Pokemon showdown content. this is the best Pokemon game hands down in my opinion. after playing showdown, I lost a lot of enjoyment for the regular Pokemon franchise. glad to see you're giving it a shot.
For anyone fairly new to Randbats, here is one thing per battle NL could have improved:
1. Check the moves of his opponents pokemon in battle 1. He would have seen that Kyurem-Black only has Dragon and Ice moves, which are both attacks that are not very effective on Sandslash-Alola. The REALLY big brain play would be to send in Tsareena to bait the Max Hailstorm that would set up the hail, then switch Sandslash in and it will get the Slush Rush speed boost.
2. Recognise that having a pokemon that can resist your opponents attacks can also work as a check. Even if you can't hit them super effectively, hitting them neutrally while resisting their attacks helps too.
3. A common theme is that he sends in his "check" right away and it takes a hit, causing it to no longer function as a check. You absolutely must not let your check to a pokemon take unnecessary damage, and be patient with sending it in. Sometimes this means letting a pokemon get KO'd for a free switch (known as "sacking").

This pogged, ngl; I love seeing NL stumble through a battle, clinging to what he does know, and persevering nonetheless. (or losing because of lack of awareness, which, who can blame him?)
The one tip I'd like to offer is: find your anchor. If a Pokemon has high Def/SpD, that means it's reasonably safe to switch them in when the going gets tough; NL's Cradily was his anchor in that team, and it tanked so much damage that it was easily MVP.
Of course, always be aware of your anchor's weaknesses as well; they'll still take the blows usually, but it's the difference between taking 2-3 hits and taking 6+.
