#Mazda #SUV #firstlook - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Hey guys, thanks for watching! Mazda did confirm (after we filmed the video) that the 2025 CX-70 is in fact the same length as the CX-90 (so 200.8 inches without the front license plate holder). That's great for cargo space, but the vehicle itself is not shorter overall, as it turns out. Fundamentally, the CX-70 just has a third-row delete. As far as we know, powertrain options should mirror the CX-90 exactly as well (so a 3.3L turbo I-6 in two states of tune, depending on the trim, or a 2.5-liter-backed plug-in hybrid).
What about weight and width?
@@saulvillicana292however much a third row delete minus added packaging to fill in the resultant void would equal, prob about 90-100 lbs. Body in white is exactly the same as the 90.
@@th003gwell...this is just a stupid product decision...they could have just called it a 5 seat CX90...didn't need product confusion with a CX70 that is identical minus the seats...I get what you said now on our other thread...silly product decision by Mazda, 🤦🏾♂️
Come on stop comparing a commodity product to a German Luxury vehicle.its a good offering against the likes of a Toyota, Infiniti or Acura.
Watch out BMW here is the reveal of the SUV that has been out for two years. LOL, stop hyping a SUV reveal that is two years old. How about do your job and address the elephant in the room.
Beautiful car. Bought my Mazda CX-3 seven years ago. Done 200k and still drives likes a brand new car. BTW, Button for me anyday. Big fan of Mazda. They have a personality!!
Good job Zach! Nice of Roman letting him contribute to the review.
i didnt know who you referring to, then i realise its 'dad'
I've always liked Mazdas and they have really stepped up their game in recent years. My Miata had those same controls for the center console and I actually liked them. The system was easy to use and responsive, which are more important qualities to me than having a touch screen.
I bought my first Mazda , a CX5, two years ago and part of the reason for going for the Mazda was the fact that it did not have a touch screen. Buttons are much easier, though I would like a rotary knob to adjust the fan speed .
My 2019 CX-5 GT Reserve has touchscreen.
Why can't Mazda set the specs in stone as soon as the Mazda CX-70 gets unveiled?@@flat-out
We have 3 Mazda's and the funny thing is, Mazda's philosophy is that touchscreens take your focus off of the road while operating the controls.
Its the complete opposite. Touch screens are far safer and intuitive that that ridiculous knob.
@@robertwilliams5015 True
@@robertwilliams5015 It’s definitely a gimmick. I rented a CX-9 for a few days and hated it, yet I realize that isn’t enough time to get used to it. Even if I did get used to it, it seemed rather pointless.
Ahhh a real Dash board
Nice gauge cluster
Buttons 😊
Beautiful
Hi Zack! Nice to have you on the channel. Thanks guys!
It’s actually really great. I wish others had a 3rd row delete. Permanently folded down 3rd row is just waste and weight. Stylish crossover, great cargo volume, makes a good family cruiser. Second row captains chairs would actually be really slick.
I wish Tahoe still had a third row delete option
Love it when you guys get the videographer involved in the video. Just adds a little something to the videos. As always, great work y’all.
Owned several Mazda's. 1992 929 rwd 6cyl was great. My favorite fairly large car✔
My dad just bought the first Mazda the family has had. Cx5. He really enjoys it and it’s a classy car.
I think having a rotary control for the display is a big plus actually. I find that with touch screen controls I have to take my eyes off the road for too long. I hope more manufacturers offer this. It will be definitely a consideration when I buy my next car. Currently have a touch screen.
Interesting.... I have a 22 Acura MDX with their TouchPad (TTIP). I find that I take my eyes off the road far more than I would have with a Touch Screen. Mazda and Acura for that matter should include BOTH: Touchscreen and their versions of a Dial or Touchpad if you prefer. I will add that when using the TTIP in the Acura with AA or Car Play is downright AWEFUL. Operates like a very slow Mouse!!
you can actually go into the setttings and unlock the touch function, many reviewers have noted this, its weird yes but its there, apple car play and android auto work with touch!
Touch screens are ridiculous in a vehicle imo
Well, you haven't addressed the elephant in the room. According to Car and Driver, this new CX-70 IS the CX-90 only with the third row removed. That's the only real difference. If so, very disappointing. I was very much hoping for the next size down, the Euro CX-60, I think it is. I like the 90 but it's too big for me.
Exactly. I saw the Car and Driver article first and my respect for them raised a few notches since I've seen nothing else but hype in other reports.
Not sure if this separates it's self from the CX90 very well. Don't get me wrong I think this looks great, I just don't see where they are going with this.
Agree
Agree as well! Get rid of the x5 after this year and bring 8:12 over the cx60 to replace the 5 … would love that! I think the 60 is a great size car, I was hoping it would have been closer to that. But a cx90 with a third row delete is disappointing to me and that egg shape back is disappointing. I mean It’s a beautiful car, just not what I was looking for.
@@theodoretoth2884 Wonder if this does well only and a value proposition to the CX 90...I'm also sure this is what killed the cx7
It's just a 3rd row delete version of the CX90. Actually quite nice option for those who don't need bulk and weight of 3rd row. And the 3rd rows in crossovers are pretty useless compared to a van.
@@jimsomerville3924 agreed by why give it another name? Isn't it shorter slightly?
No glossy piano black interior? Sign me right up.
Great job Zach! Good to hear the voice behind the camera.
Is the 2.5 4 cylinder in the PHEV longitudinally mounted? That's kind of significant. How is the electric motor(s) situated? Is the front differential an E axle? Interesting layout. If that's the case, it'd be basically opposite to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which is transverse mounted, with no mechanical connection between the engine and rear differential. The rear axle is 100% electric. Of course there is a motor in front as well.
Yes it is, the electric motor is between engine and transmission.
I know a lot of you car reviewing folks seem to love touch screens but I can't figure out why. There is zero tactility, they're uncomfortable to touch because you have to lean forward in your seat while driving and concentrate on poking the right button, they're impossible to use on bumpy roads, and the screen constantly has finger prints all over it. I personally love Mazda's wheel because it's basically a computer mouse. I don't touch my PC screen while I'm sitting in my office chair, I move a mouse. I don't have to move my body, I simply move my fingers and eyes. It's a much more elegant and comfortable process, safer, and less frustrating in many busy driving situations. There's an element of discipline to it as well because if you're unfamiliar with the wheel it basically forces you to drive rather than mess with infotainment. I've used the wheel in several rented Mazdas and I grew to love it, preferring it over touch screens.
I agree with you totally!
I agree. It’s one reason I got my BMW with the previous generation MMI rotary control. It makes CarPlay a pain, which I think is why most people don’t like it, but I like the built-in utilities better anyway.
and that old info center is the reason I will not buy a Mazda, so sad
I just bought a CX50. Very subtly classy. Main points for buying the Mazda - 6 speed trans, actual climate controls & seat memory. Others were heated & cooled seats, Bose 12 speaker. So much for a reasonable price.
You’re going to hate the gas mileage on it lol
Same here in the premium plus trim!😁
@@eleanormassaro5195 it’s nice , but if you’re driving hwy and city those 300+ miles go fast
@@cormaro13 my commute to work is 6 miles each way, so just going back-and-forth to work three to four days a week, it lasts me two weeks on a tank of gas, but when I travel on road trips, I can get up to about 400 gallons on a tank.
@@eleanormassaro5195 damn lucky lol I share the car with my wife so 310 miles will be gone in 3 days , we’re looking into a hybrid tho
I have an Alfa Stelvio with no touch screen....I would never go to a touch screen.....try driving and touching the screen at the same time.....hope you have good air bags and good insurance coverage
Mazda is not behind in terms of their tech, they just have a very different philosophy and i love them for it. I HATE touchscreens and that is actually a very big selling point for me, that Mazda opted out of the touch crazy.
Nice review! What is with the old display I would think they would want all new…. Also why are there so many infotainment systems plugged on top of the dash. Makes it seem like more of an after thought oh yea I guess we should give them one of those too. I like them integrated into the dash much more.
You can tell the reviewer hasnt use the modern Mazda infotainment much. The rotary dial is superior to 99% of the systems out there without the fingerprint smudges or n the screen.
You can change the screen to touchscreen mode in the settings. It will work for CarPlay and Android auto which is what most people use these days.
You guys really did a great job. I read the cx70 does have touchscreen if you use apple carplay or android auto (I'm not certain if that was available for you to attempt).
I’ve owned a few. Have no complaints on them other than not alot of dealers in our area atleast.
Hopefully they addressed the powertrain, suspension and steering issues from the CX-90, which was released half-baked.
umm CX-90 does NOT have ANY of those problems, never did, and never will
They did, it doesn't offer them.
This is brilliant! Making the CX-70 a two row CX-90 for the North American market is perfect. Many Americans buy 3 row SUVs not because they have 5 kids, but they want the space. This remedies that.
The name ofof the city is Encino. Walked to encino hospital to get my broken toes cast years ago 😅.Love how mazda uses the same camera system as bmw. So clear and vivid.
Huge missed opportunity to shave 6 inches, 400 pounds and tune the turbo power train a bit for more performance. That would have provided performance vehicle that really would have occupied a different niche. I’m sure Mazda considered something similar and just couldn’t justify the investment.
My big question is the 360 camera view. On the CX90 S Turbo it only has a rear camera. You have to buy the S Turbo Premium which is 5k more to have the all around cameras .
Bought my Cx90 GT! oh Boy the cornering is something that you would loved!! The Miata hands Down
How’s the leg space for the driver? I sat in a cx90 and didn’t like the door handle to center console width for my knees. 6’4” tall
Well, it’s safe to assume it’s going to be exactly the same…
The very first car I bought with my own money was also a Mazda RX-7 1987, I loved it.
Had 6 mazdas. love them. currently own a cx9 and mazda3.
Mazda bring back the Mazda 6 please!!
So basically a two row CX90. Less tech and a bit lower price point! Perfect...that black looks sick!
I think its a bit more than that since there are feature you get on the CX90 that aren't available on the CX50, such as the active suspension, and the captain's chairs.
Less tech?
@@joecool9739 if it's going to offered at a lower price point it can't have the same tech as the CX90. The CX90 has to offer more than a third row of seats in order for Mazda to ask for a premium price!
They literally just explained it has MORE tech. CX-90 doesn’t have the emergency unresponsive drivers support system.
Nice to see a lack of piano black plastic on the center console , dash and steering wheel. Hope this translates to the production versions.
All the hype for the announcement and all they did was rip the 3rd row out of a cx-90 and slap a cx-70 badge on? Definitely not what I wanted. I was looking for something just a little bigger than a cx-5 with a hybrid option.
I just sold my 2-year-old CX5 Carbon Edition. Extremely reliable and incredible steering feel. The biggest issue was the lack of power (non-turbo), space, and the no-touch screen. After a few years of driving it,, I decided that I wanted all those things. This CX70 looks amazing, but by the end of the day, the lack of "badge" for the same money, will probably be its biggest negative. You can now get a 2 year Q5 or an X3 in the low to mid $30k's. Just saying!!!!
My Wife had a 2016 CX-3GT, and now and now a 2021CX-5GT. Many things are intuitive, but one thing I wish Mazda would is at least have is a knob for the ventilation fan speed. Separate Hi Low buttons need some attention to find and use.
At the 1:00 mark - The hook looks to be off? Left side looks closed, right side looks to be popped.
I like it, we have the new cx90 and love it and I would definitely strongly consider this when replacing my other vehicle.
Wish they would bring back the Mazda 6 wagon, make it AWD, and compete with the Subaru Outback. Small niche I suppose.
Is there supposed to be some advantage to Mazda in calling it a whole new model instead of just making the CX-90 available in two rows?
I like it. I wonder how much larger it feels than the CX-50. For me, the CX-50 is the right size. But the inline 6 is definitely the right engine lol. Also wonder how the PHEV will lease.
An inline 6 on the CX-50 would be AMAZING. Hopefully, Mazda will make that an option in the future.
I was really looking at the CX-50 but could not get past the ugly black plastic fender coatings. Absolutely ruins it for me except in black, where it is hidden more. The CX-50 has the wider stance and rugged look that is really nice, but they really messed up by not having a trim level that avoided the plastic fender coatings. My wife and daughter had the same exact first impressions. I got my son a Mazda 3 and he LOVED it. I just gave him my Mazda 6 last year to replace the Mazda 3 that got flood damage, and he is in heaven. Mazda interiors are really nice.
What location is this? I know it's in Encino California but where? Looks so peaceful.
They didn’t even remove the third row armrest/drink holder. It’s behind the second row! lol
It’s going to get lost on the lot until you read the badge
A little tidbit they are cutting trim levels on the CX90 for 2025 so I expect CX70 to follow that trend.
Infotainment is definitely touchscreen. Has been for several years now.
Not in the native Mazda system, only in Carplay/Android Auto
@@th003g that's true!
Gorgeous. Best bang for your buck by far in SUVs.
Am I the only one saying that this isn't new to our eyes. Hello........it's as if you see it for the first time. It's EXACTLY the same as the CX90, only with 2 rows of seats. OMG!
Which means it'll be a massive success. All the people buying 3 rows when they only need two will see all the cargo space and swoon.
Add in a 3-5k discount over the CX-90 and people will think they're getting a deal.... When in reality they could just learn to fold the third row down.
@@markcoopers1930there won't be a 5k discount, maybe 800 if your lucky because they can't cannibalize the 90 sales.
@@th003g It will be a case study for sure. How much is a third row setup vs a 2 row setup actually worth.
They do mention that it is shorter overall. So...very similar but not EXACTLY the same.
@@imkindofabigdeal4308 others have reported that Mazda clarified the cx70 it is exactly the same length, 200.8 inches. Only external differences are slightly tweaked bumpers, and by that, I mean they added a plastic insert into the front bumper brake vents and changed the layout of the rear bumper reflectors. Didn't even have to create new bumper molds.
What a "reveal"! A CX-90 without the 3rd row and with some cosmetic differences. That was a lot of hype for the big accomplishment of removing a 3rd row of seats. Kind of a joke.
Who want's finger prints on their navi screen?
This might actually be sexier than my cx50!
Cx50 is American trash but 90s is japan
@@yournightmare9999cX50 is not trash!
@eleanormassaro5195 cx50 inside feel poor plastics compared to cx5 i check all those cars
@@yournightmare9999 i’ve been driving my CX 50 for over a year and it doesn’t feel cheap inside to me
Nice, sporty but still has a ways to catch up to the BMW X3, especially the m40/m50 with the B58 engine.
That's lovely shade of red in the interior. I find most red leather interiors are just too vibrant for my taste.
I was also hoping for an in-between size. Would have loved a smaller CX-90 but with styling more like the CX-50.
I don't get the glow-up for what amounts to a "third row delete" option. Mazda is essentially getting two launches for the same car. While the second row appears to have ample leg room for most, I could tell that the seat was mounted low enough to allow good headroom, but steal some thigh support for tall passengers. That gets uncomfortable after a while on long rides. Since the wheelbase and overall length are the same, there is a lot of cargo space, but too bad the rear seat legroom couldn't have a little of that.
I love the cargo room in this thing. Looks like it could fit a double stroller in there. A big deal for families that want the cargo room for trips w/kids but one of the parents (or both) won’t be caught dead in a minivan. Mazda -must- do a “Baby Got Back” ad for this car.😅😅😅
Hahaha ..... remember a couple of years ago when Mazda announced that the CX-70 *"will not"* replace the CX-5?
Back when everyone kept complaining about how silly it was for Mazda to keep the CX-5 alive, instead of simply replacing it with the upcoming CX-70?
*Well folks, now we finally know why!* .... hahaha .... I mean come on Mazda, the CX-70 is simply a two-row CX-90, full stop!
Hell, they didn't even bother removing the 3'rd row cup holders (lol). Gee, I wonder why nobody ever complained about why the CX-90 didn't replace the CX-5? Gimme a break! (lol). And so now we know EXACTLY why the CX-5 will be around for a very long time. After all, why wouldn't it? It has always been Mazda's best selling vehicle, Mazda's bread & butter!
Now don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Mazda, which is why I ordered a new 2023 CX-5 Grand Touring from my Mazda Canada dealer last April (red exterior, white leather interior). I received it in early July and I absolutely love it! Before ordering it, I test-drove the Tucson, the Sportage, the Tiguan, the Outlander, the CRV and the Rav4. In my opinion, the CX-5 easily came out on top. I *know* that I made the right choice, no doubt about it!
With that said ----> like a lot of other folks, I seriously considered waiting for the CX-70 to be release because, "like everyone else in North America", I was led to believe that it would be very similar to the European "CX-60", and so somewhere in between the CX-50 and the CX-90. Man am I ever glad that I didn't wait. What a waste of time that would've been!
Based on a gazillion "previous" TH-cam vids about the *"upcoming"* CX70, it's quite obvious that *"nobody"* saw this coming! The CX-70 is a total surprise and a massive disappointment.
So I say to Mazda ...."I'm pretty sure that you're about to *"learn"* very quickly what North Americans think of your CX-70"!
I like it. Much like Honda did with Passport vs Pilot; Mazda is competing with CX-70 vs CX-9 but keeping the length the same. Maybe a square off between CX-70 vs Passport in a future episode!
I don’t understand their strategy here, cx90 without a 3rd row and that’s it? Why don’t I just get the 3rd row just in case and the second row being captain chairs?
Don't feel bad Nathan I'm bald too😂
Much cooler front end than the cx-90 but for a car that is the same size and most likely the same price, I’d rather just go ahead and have the extra seats.
Taking a long look at this model. I own a 21 CX5 (my 3rd). Need more back seat & cargo room. Do NOT need a 3rd row.
I'm glad to see a turbo inline 6. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the Chevy Traverse (2024) in the same class as the CX-70? This is since both the Acadia and Traverse are smaller in their third gens.
Not even close
Same class for suv but not the same quality 😂
I test all the cx90 the only complaint I have is why are the seats so small is it almost like sitting inside a Corvette
My first car was a 1981 Mazda RX7!
The CX70 is called Honda Passport
I'm in my 50's and I don't prefer all the screens and technology. I don't need babysitters while I drive. I don't even listen to the radio when I drive. All that technology is on my phone. And I already paid for that.
They are missing fog lights
Disappointed it is not similar length to the CX-60....was hoping for smaller, lighter more performance oriented vehicle.
I like the infotainment
If it's not significantly lower priced than the CX-90, what's the point?
Love this one over the 90, can’t stand captains chairs. Thank you Mazda!
Having three little kids, that comes with a ton of stuff you need to haul around. I could see this as being the better option than the cx-90. For the extra cargo space and possibly rear seat leg room, I’d go for it. Mazda bring back your minivan 😩.
Imagine if Mazda released a 3 row with that amount of trunk space. It would be a legitimate suburban or Expedition MAX competitor.
It's a CX-90 without the 3rd Row!! Makes no sense - they should have produced the European CX-60 for the USA with the Straight 6 Turbo engine. An Update to my comments 4/13/24... After seeing more of the CX-70's released specs - the more I am liking it, especially as a potential replacement for my 22 MDX Advance lease coming to an end in August. The 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus estimated at about $56K seems to be an Outstanding Value ! In that Model everything is included. Compared to a new 25 MDX Type S at $78K!! The MDX has a superior Sound system, they have finally got rid of the Touch Pad with a new touch screen, Massaging Seats (added to the non Type S too Advance model), Fancy Interior Lighting show selections now at a touch of a button [which I have rarely used to change]. The Mazda CX-70 Turbo S premium Plus is a mild Hybrid engine, on paper an inferior Bose Sound system, no Massaging seats, but about 10% + better MPGs with very similar Power outputs /Torque. Regressing from my previous comments.. $56K vs. $77-78K - that's a lot of Cabbage to get a better sound system, massaging seats, a nd an interiro Light Show. Notwithstanding these comments... My 22 MDX Advance is a Terrific SUV, even though I have never used the 3rd Row {I wonder how many people actually do}, handles / steers wonderfully, very comfortable, but has this Awful TTIP Touch pad that I still don't like albeit I have gotten used to it.
It kinda has BMW’s X series look but much more reliable than BMW of course!
I like it. Really just a 3rd row delete of the 90, which is good for many. Wish the electric-only range was higher. If you don't already have a level 2 charger, that's quite a bit of money for 25 miles range.
Why would they do something like this? I would really like to know the rationale behind this decision.
Nice one but too many complains
Lol they still have the same third row cupholders and arm rests as the CX-90. What happened...

I'm not a huge black car fan but is Striking particularly with that dark red/Bordeaux? Interior! Just wish it had some wood accents/inlay Zebrano would be nice with that deep red! Man Mazda & this model Awesome! Tbh as I really dislike Lexus anything right up there with Apple. Ultimate DB brand, like Schmesla 😂- this is much nicer! very disappointed that it's not a north american version of the cx60 ... Took away 3rd row and name it a new car... what are they thinking..
So not really a new car reveal! It’s like BMW revealing the X5 when it had a third row as if it was a new BMW.
Mazda make good motor vehicles. Where in my opinion they fail big time, is the colour combo choices. The selected colours miss by an inch, they may as well miss by a mile. BMW and Audi’s resident artists do that stuff better. However the latest 5 from Renault is gobsmackingly elegant. If Mazda get the subtle nuances sorted, it’s next level.
Mazda held the press release in someone’s dirt yard and didn’t bother to clean a black car? Wild
I think it’s hilarious that Mazda was so lazy, they didn’t even remove the drink holders and storage area for the third row passengers
It's the exact same size. Just 2 rows and larger cargo space
It's the CX-90 as a TRIM LEVEL - nothing new to see here folks w/ two rows... MAZDA got lazy and deceptive - customers will instantly point out its the same, their target is the same - it is like Toyota coming out with a 4 runner with 3 rows and calling it the 5runner... people have been looking forward to a smaller SUV, aka cx-60 not everyone wants to drive around a boat. So, simple to bring the CX-60 here, give the CX-90 a two row trim level and still target more of it's audience. This is not BMWs competition, BMW provides the X3, while Mazda just deletes the third row from a CX-90.
Haha i think this takes the cake for worst phone in model. The "this could have been a trim " version of this could have been an email for a car
I was anxious for the 70...until I learned they were going to charge more than the 90.
This car should have been a BMW X5 competitor. They should have shrunk it down a little and gave it a great dynamic driving performance, tuned toward performance.
How tall is Roman? Wondering if I could car camp in that thing.
Great car, but why its not touch screen ?
Weird how the reviewers have different specs, this trim has no cooled seats, but digital gauge cluster but other reviewers cx-70 had cooled seats but smaller displays, also rear heated seats??
"Mazda's never the company that's going to build a better mouse trap, but they are the company that is going to keep refining and make the mousetrap better." - Roman
It is touch screen. You have to enable it in the menu. TFL is usually not that lazy. Look at the menu
I think they were just in a hurry this is a press even where they only get a short amount of hands on time.
I *think* the configuration to enable touch screen only relates to Apple Car Play and Android Auto use.
Isn't it a touch screen when using Apple or Android?
