Journey to sub-11 (So Far)

  • Short video I made on imovie of a mediocre amateur sprinter trying his hardest to break the 11 second barrier.
Basically I re-entered the world of athletics in autumn of 2014 aged 22 after 4 years of binge drinking at university. I used summer 2015 to prepare myself for the winter so times were not that great. Winter occurred and luckily for me I picked up no injuries, zilch, nada it's been great. So..... I'm looking super forward to 2016. If I run a 11.2 I'll be happy but God believe if 10.99 happens I will be throwing the biggest fuck off party ever.
The tune is Brookfield - by Arkist & Komon, pleasee don't block the video!!

Update: Got injured 2 weeks after making this video :(
Ended up getting a job which took me abroad and could not train.
Despite this I was really happy with where I got too. I know physically if I was able to stay fit the 10.9 was definitely under threat. However with my new job I'll have to leave it at this!

Love the video man, I'm trying something similar at 26 years old. Started at 13.68 hand timed in January, now at 12.40 FAT. Still have a body fat percentage of 25% as well so I still have 10kgs of fat to lose. Watched this video when I started focusing on sprinting in March and its been a big motivator for me. Thanks, and I hope life has treated you well since this video.

Great video, very inspiring. I appreciate this kind of stuff bc I trained for the 1996 Olympics when I was 25 yo. I was in a very bad car accident in Dec of 1995 & blew my right knee out & hobbled my way to the finish line at 12 seconds flat in Jan of 1996 to a 10.99 in June 1996! But prior to my accident I ran a PR of 10.82 electric and 19.62 hand time. I'm going to run Master's this upcoming indoor season. I'll be turning 48 yo in Nov. So I'm excited about getting back into shape again. Thank you for the inspiring video.

This is inspiring. I'm also trying to get sub 11. I'm currently a junior in high school and I justed started winter track a couple weeks ago but last year my pr for the 100 was 11.63 FAT. I've learned so much about sprinting since then.and have been training for a while so i feel like i can definitely reach my goal. when i self time i run in the 10's but i know it's not accurate. i had a friend time me at practice like last week. i clocked myself in at 10.32 then i let him time me right after and got he got me at 10.91. i just can't wait to run a real 100 already. I'm a great starter too the 55 / 60 are great for me. at tryouts i ran 6.44 hand time for the 55.
    btw I'm 5'5. 5'6 on a good day lol

I spoke to my co-worker, a P.E teacher from an elementary school and track coach for the best elementary and middle school track athletes in the city. He explained that the VAST majority of 7th to 8th grade boys (not in the track team) run 100m in 15sec. A 12yr old kid running 11 or 12 seconds would be considered a sprinting prodigy.

One tip I can tell you is dont try to force yourself to have a good technique. Its obvious that you are doing so in all clips. Run with your natural running style the natural feel and slowly get to a better technique. I made the same mistake when I first started and after I stopped forcing myself into a good technique my times dropped dramatically.

prondox but it's good to have a good running technique if u don't have one(a lot of ppl don't so they run the way they want to) which is not good as in you won't get any better and u won't improve to your maximum potential

Work on your abs if you don´t. Good route is to stay very active in the off season as I did with wrestling.
I did not run track. I was asked by my PE teacher to run the 100 m without a stretch, warm-up or anything physical
since wrestling season (4 mos.) Clocked a 10.985 on grass and broke a school record. I was a 17 yr. old junior, 132 lbs.
    5´-10¨.

    • @poetiks
      @poetiks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Idk how to help you on that one my man. 12.1 and 11.4 is a pretty big difference. Could be a bad start, but with a drop that big you might be getting lazy with your form. Make sure the arms are swinging well, cheek to cheek. Drive off the front foot and pull the back one through with explosiveness. Knee up toe up, and keep your body relaxed.
