They are guarding an empty building. The only purposes these ceremonial guards have is to promote tourism which is so important to London. If this was a purely guard role they would have armed soldiers on the ground. I am not saying it is an easy job but these comments denigrate tourists so much that it annoys me at times.

They can't put any kind of fence up because it is a public foot path which belongs to LBC. If you noticed when a horse gets spooked they spin round which a fence could cause harm to the horse and possibly the public too

Tourist numbers could be restricted- by stamp on hand! Or Pay admission! Ask a tourist to endure having everyone petting their hair and face for 15 minutes non stop! The nastier youngsters get their due when the police choose to get involved. Let the Guardsmen draw their swords and make ready to use them! Or force the rude teens to do push-ups or something. Consequences! Teens here would not dare to be so rude to authorities as their tolerance is zero
