    Fortunately people use roads to drive their vehicles down there. In our area they come right through the woods.

    Started rewatching last season and I do think this is my favorite. So many things go thru your head while trying to setup on one that close to the road on public dirt and that feeling ya get in your gut when you know its fixing to go south but then it works out. The rollercoaster of events messes with your nerves in a way its not explainable.

      I have that "about to go south" feeling until I have my hands on them. . . every time. HA!

    Great hunt as usual! Ive had a handful of similar hunts through the years....public land, gobbler close to the road, parking so everyone knows im on the bird but not too close, trucks driving by, praying they keep driving and they dont screw this whole thing up, all stress relieved with the simple pull of the trigger..........man I love it.

      I believe that it was Tom Kelly that said when the oak leaves are the size of a squirrels ear, gobblers are gobbling best.

    Sorry guys I'm a little late joining the party. I heard about Dave and the Pinhoti project on a Primos podcast a while back. Loving every second on these videos. Getting me really pumped for turkey season in my home state of West Virginia.

    Great hunt! I deal with a couple of hunters (same guys) every year that want to come in and set up on the same bird I'm hunting knowing I'm already there. they think because the fields are so big that they can set up a 100 yards or more away and it's ok. they did it again this year. Now I aint the best caller but I do know that it doesn't do anybody any good to be calling the same bird. Not to mention it's dangerous from a safety stand point. I'm glad to know that there are some young guys like you and Chubbs that know the unwritten rules of turkey hunting, mainly "Honoring other hunters sets"

  • @anthonyhawk5977
    @anthonyhawk5977 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'm always amazed at turkey hunters that feel the need to blow a crow call at a turkey that is already gobbling! WTH? If he is gobbling shut up!

    • @jonh.5630
      @jonh.5630 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anthony Hawk it’s more of a location thing, I could understand if one was gobbling like crazy but 1 or 2 gobbles ain’t enough to really locate it.

    OMG a great hunt...S IT happens. It was immediate, his head color changed and there was no doubt the reason. Was great to have a front row seat to watch his reaction, or lack thereof, to the calling and crow calling. Too funny...no is ever going to believe it....so true, took the words right out of my mouth Chubs....can I pee now!!! Brought to and sponsored by PATIENCE!! Congrats Guys!

    When the gobbler situated those wings and the head changed colors I thought he was about to bail. Glad he didn't and glad y'all were able to get him after all that shit.

    I'll be honest, it's the baiting that frustrates me even more than the novice driving the roads and calling poorly. Unless he's the guy who put out the corn, he'll learn over time (hopefully). Just glad he didn't bump that gobbler like the fella the other day. We put in so much time and effort for the love of the sport that it's a shame people feel the need to break the rules like that.

    Great hunt! I wouldn't doubt it if the guy in the truck is the one that put a corn pile out. Clearly hes not a strong caller or knowledgeable hunter at all. No idea what enjoyment someone would get out of baiting turkeys. Baiting deer is bad enough but at least they can hit a corn pile at night.

    • @pinhotiproject
      @pinhotiproject  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lol gotta love the dude riding the road. Turkey gobbles and he breaks out the crow call. I've had a few of those close roosted ones. Sometimes it happens, sometimes they put their head under the wing and sit there past time to go to church. lol . Good hunt. Thanks for sharing.

    As frustrating as it is, the beauty of public land is watching the animals react and work through the pressure of guys like that. And realistically you can't blame him. Guy probably learned from the tv shows y'all aren't emulating, the ones that say all the crap about what you gotta do and use, and all. Only thing I genuinely got upset about was the corn. Can't stand a baiter.

    Have dealt with hiney butts a long time and managed to kill birds. Best one was when I was "scouting" for an upcoming weekend and had the bird walk across the road. Watched 4 different trucks drive by us. Each time I started calling, another truck came. Killed him and went on to work. Came back that weekend and killed a hoss that walked up behind me within 5 yards. I think that was my 2nd and 3rd bird ever. Been hooked since the first one.
