Appreciate the info. As a parent of a 2013, really struggling to understand how youth and junior hockey works. This helped explain one aspect (albeit the top aspect) of how camps work. I will definitely be looking for more videos.

Saying that the main way USHL teams take players in is by getting calls from NCAA coaches is not even a little bit accurate. USHL teams have scouting staffs who are in rinks year round. USHL staffs and college coaches ARE constantly communicating, but just because a player is committed to a school doesn't mean a USHL team is blindly drafting or tendering them.

It is not the only way but happens very often.

@@ahadvising8 In 10+ years of working in Tier 2 and Tier 1 junior hockey I have never seen it even one time with the teams I've worked on. Maybe some programs are different, but I'd hardly say it happens "very often" or say it's the MAIN way players get on USHL teams

I wish these next level coaches and schools didn't have so much pull. Just make more teams if there's enough players. Cutting all these players doesn't make sense, most of them are very similar skill wise. It makes no sense sometimes why some kids make it and some don't. Unless its CLEAR the guy doesn't belong in the league then he should stay. And spots should be made available for EVERY kid who pays and can skate with this level. I bet there's been hundreds of hall of fame NHLers left behind and cut for some other kid with a big ego and early puberty

Controversial statement, I don’t think top leagues should be for everyone as there is something to say about competition and growth. However, there is a serious abundance of players and some really good ones do get caught in the weeds when they should be up a lot higher.

That’s what’s happening with AAA in America, there are new teams that don’t deserve to be AAA which waters down the skill group

The USHL is free for players. Space is provided by very generous patrons and non-profits. They cannot just snap their fingers and create space for people, it costs time and money. The players that don't make it can still play hockey. The NAHL is also free, and the players that don't make either league can play NA3HL, which is not free.
