    Very true what lee is pointing out too us all, but I would suggest to most golfers out there to keep the left thumb too the left of the putter grip so the wrist go's through the ball naturally towards the hole. this stops the wrist/s from rolling to the left/right, no one can tell you how you should putt, but after 45 years of putting, I have now found that this change in my left grip has stopped me from going left or right of the hole, try it, am sure it will help if you are way off line? My comments are honorable and I am only trying too help my fellow golfers! I am an old guy just trying to help you younger guy's out there!! Like Lee, am self taught and never had a lesson in my life, Just like most golfers out there who have done like wise have went through the pain of poor putting, life is a learning process and we learn every day, not just with golf! So may I suggest you try this out at your club putting green and maybe give me some feed back, am sure this tip will help you guy's? Good luck!

    Most golfers who reach the pro circuit do so because they have more highly developed intuition that most but what I like about Trevino’s tutorials is that like myself he has the intellectual curiosity to want to understand the cause and effect of why the intuitive solutions work better than other techniques, many of them ‘conventional wisdom’ blindly followed.
    In this video it was interesting to see him using an Anser style putter at the beginning and a Bullseye later. I’ve used and experimented with both and mallets and have read the story of how the very toe heavy Bullseye which tries to twist open and shut in the hands inspired Karsten Solheim to invent his A-1 and Anser putter which automatically stay square to the type of curved, chip-like stoke ) which was the conventional wisdom for putting in the 60’s when nearly everyone on the tour used Bullseye putters. Now neither style club is a good match to straight putting stroke. A face balanced mallet style is the better choice for that stoke, but that stroke is much more difficult to do consistently because of human biomechanics.

    • @RollYourRock
      @RollYourRock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you'll find that there really isn't such a thing as a "straight back-straight through putting stroke", except for a sidesaddle/face-on putter suspended vertically while making the stroke. But, I like the way you think! - Cheers, RYR

      @@RollYourRock FWIW, I did a lot of experimentation on my backyard putting green with various putter types and found with a face-balanced mallet putter using with a 45° closed stance \ with ball back in stance it is relatively easy to track the putter on a straight line similar to long shafted putter anchored to the left shoulder.
      I got the idea to do that after watching and emulating trick shot artist “Count Yogi who did something similar with the set-up of his full swing shots. I’m sure Trevino had the feel in his hands and hand-eye coordination to bring face to ball square with whatever type of putter he used.

      The best teachers are unlikely to be as talented as Lee. You need to understand the average golfer, and that's not just because of what the teacher sees, but also because he has had to battle those same tendencies. There are exceptions to the rule of course, maybe Lee is talking to you. He does not to me. He's way too talented.

    I'm not a pro but I've played for 62 years and still going. The argument against playing the ball in the middle is that hitting "down" on the ball brings any imperfections on the green affect the ball. I do putt the ball from close to the middle of my stance but I am not hitting down on the ball.

    • @RollYourRock
      @RollYourRock  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once the ball is rolling it has no idea if you hit it on the downswing, level or on the upswing. Imperfections on the greens surface well always send the ball off-line. There have been great putters who have hit it on the down, level and on the up. *BTW, this is my 66th year of playing golf. Cheers! 🙂

    Trevino advocates opposite of Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus would say to never change anything concerning different putts. He would say - stay consistent.

      @@ripme6616 I've watched almost all Lee Trevino stuff, and seen him in person at a local tournament here in Ojai, CA..when the Seniors used to come here. You cannot copy this man in almost any way period. He does his three point little walk/waggle before hitting, he aims left, or right, he talks, he putts and 'helps' the putt. IMO, NOT nuts and bolts stuff at all. Nuts and bolts, look at Little Poison...he's got stuff that you can actually learn.

    All Lee is doing is setting up a putting stroke that sort of mimicks his full swing. Given that, it's no wonder he likes it!? Disaster for others maybe, but allows him to make a good strike in the rhythm of his full swing. Set up to putt in the same rhythm as your full swing. Whether that's short backswing long follow through, a pop, in-to -out (Locke) or out-to-straight. There are so many ways, all of which work so long as the blow is an accelerating one 🙂

      For years we sold Bullseyes in our golf shop for $14.50. Headcover to protect the soft brass putter head was a dollar.Then Ping came out with their line of putters that sold for $20. Golfers comments were like, " I ain't payin' no $20 for a frickin putter. When's this price gauging gonna end? And a set of four woods has gone up from $100 to $104 now. Think I'm made outta money?"

    This just proves that there is no correct method, at the end of the day it’s just rolling a ball into a hole. So much bullshit these days with putter fittings, perfect technique, not using your wrists, rock shoulders. Some of the best putters ever were back in Nicklaus’ and travino’s day and to a modern player their technique looks terrible yet it doesnt matter if it works
