    LoL.. I took the Commander role at level 16, only because nobody else would. As it turned out, all the other Leaders were very helpful in talking me through what they needed me to do, and we ended up with a W. Was a really positive experience and I learned quite a lot in that one round

      @@johnhines229 hehe I'm now level 116 plus and I tend NOT to want to command because people think they can abuse you when things don't go the way they want. Unfortunate that the early positive experiences have been tarnished by a lot of loud mouthed complainers who 90% of the time have completely misunderstood the situation. Often they have done nothing to help the commander but feel they have the right to blame him for their poor play.

    I'm only in favor of weapon malfunctions on machine guns.
    IRL you can't just hold the trigger down on one of these weapon systems without seriously damaging the barrel and rendering it combat ineffective.

      One off the wall idea I’ve had (for a different game than HLL, something slower with longer ranges like PS) is to implement a timing based system like gears of war. The difference being that instead of being rewarding for hitting a very hard timer, the timer is very easy, but the furthest miss it by the worse the outcome. Miss a little and the reload takes longer. Miss a lot and your drop the mag, introducing dirt to the weapon and creating the chance of a jam in the mag. Tbf, that’s less about the idea of jams itself and more about making reloading in a tense firefights stressful, requiring your actual focus, even if you are in cover while still giving the player total control and being easy enough to largely avoid. Imagine getting pushed hard and needing to reload the MG, you’re stressed so you miss the timer, and but you don’t have time to redo the load to prevent a possible jam, so you are now fighting with the fear in the back of your head that it MAY jam this belt. But after that belt is done or you win the fight you can just load normally to prevent that possibility.

      The thing is, Hell Let Loose is simply not that kind of game; if the devs put more of an insentive of downed players staying downed instead of waiting the 5 minute maximum to getting revived than we can think of putting in that mechanic. And if I have to play on East, im at a significant disadvantage. Moving is out of the question, I don’t have that facilities for that big man, so my options are limited. I don’t think a lot of people consider how many people live in the Western US that are gamers, California and Arizona are pretty big urban populations. Even Boise Idaho is large.

    The only Squad locking type thing I'd like to see is a locked officer slot for infantry. So you could have 5/6 of random Inf rolls but that 6th slot MUST be an SL. This stops those full squads with no squad lead by making sure a slot is always open for someone to come in and take it.

    They need to add a way to entice people to play Officer and Commander once they are maxed out. Those were the first two I got to level 10 and I'm trying to level my other roles. If they added some type of additional XP for leadership roles towards your overall level then that'd help. Alternatively if you play a leadership position they could add "bonus/rest XP" towards a role of your choosing so next time you play that role you'll earn that additonal XP at the end of the match. They could possibly add a section in main menu for your bonus XP role (which may be changed). You then play SL for 1.5 hrs and select rifleman as bonus XP in menu. Then when you play the next match as rifleman you'll earn the bonus XP as a % at the end of the game. No leadership roles should be able to be selected for bonus XP though.
    There may be a better way to do this but I just think this needs addressing.

    Maybe if more veteran players played squad lead, these low level players won't be making squads just to play the game. Seems like every game we have like 5 seconds left of warm up with 3 full squads, and as soon as I create an infantry squad it gets filled instantly. We might need more incentive to fill the squad leader rolls, or the community is going to have to step it up

  • @El.mosquito.
    @El.mosquito. ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Totally agree about the squad leader level locking. At this point HLL has a problem about players not willing to step in to start squads. They are hanging there as observers waiting for someone to do it so they can join the game and play a different class. This often happens when there are already full or locked squads in the game. Then someone starts a squad and straight away makes it clear that they only did it to have a squad to play in.

    If you own a server, you can set the size of the cue. Default is 6.
    In reference to locking vehicles, which isn't a good idea, but the Commander should be able to lock Artillery. Too many players do not look at the munitions amount, and don't realize they are using up the Team/Commander's resources.
    Symmetric Balance could be remedied if the devs brought back the 1 minute cool down on capping the next objective.
    In update 9, one player could build all nodes, which was great for longevity of the match.

  • @sandwichdelta
    @sandwichdelta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I agree wholeheartedly with the level lock points. I'll always take a level 8 officer who wants to learn, asks questions, and communicates constantly, over a level 187 officer who doesn't talk or drop map indicators for callouts. And a mechanic like this will just further lock the more experienced players into always playing officer. I like playing officer, but doing it multiple matches in a row is exhausting. I don't wanna feel like I have to do it more than I already do.
    I also agree with the specialized squads point, but I would like to be able to label the type of squad I'm leading more clearly. My inability to change "Offensive" to "Defensive" on the fly almost makes the icons meaningless. I might be playing an offensive role, but when I capture the next point, I'll need to stay on defense for some time while the rest of the team catches up. Right now I can't consistently indicate to players browsing squad selection what my squad is doing, at least, not until I die and can change the icon. I'd also like them to be more than just a little icon that most new players will probably look over, text would probably be more useful.

    As a commander main (who plays since lvl 10) what I want is powered markers, aka, if I place an attack/move marker and a team follows through with it then they get a power up, eg. less fire suppression, faster mobility, etc... if I point infantry and it's killed then they get extra points, IDK something so that people actually follow through commander instructions and they stop leaving the point alone despite you almost begging them to stop attacking and defend.

    The only one I disagree with you on is the queue size. I want a bigger queue. Just for purely selfish reasons. I have a few servers I usually go on because of familiar faces and I want to get onto those servers. Repeatedly clicking to try and get on the queue is a bit of a pain in the arse. I'd rather wait 30 minutes in a queue quietly reading a book than spend 30 minutes clicking the screen in hopes of just getting into the queue. I'm not going to go on another server outside of the ones I have favourited regardless of whether the queue is full or not. In many cases depending on my mood, if I cannot get into those servers then I'd rather just not play the game. So I just want it easier for me to get into the server I want.
    I like the community, the rules and the admins of that particular server. Every time I play that server I have a great experience and that doesn't apply to other servers. And it just so happens that the ping of that server is very low whereas not every server is. So hopefully you can understand why I'd want this feature.
    I don't see why this would be a problem either because there are clearly many people like me who repeatedly click the connect button in an attempt to get onto a queue. They're already waiting now. A longer queue is not going to change that, it'll only make it more fair so that it's first come first serve. In fact a larger queue system might actually discourage some people from waiting. Right now we're all repeatedly clicking and hoping to get in a queue behind 6 people. We're all fighting for that chance. But with a longer queue system, we'd clearly be able to see "Hey, there's 12 people ahead of you waiting. You're gonna be here for a pretty damn long time" and that's bound to discourage many people from trying to join that server.

    I agree with most of these. The two I have differences on both relate to experience with Planetside 2.
    PS2 has map drawing, and it gets minimum use or abused. A nice substitute for this is to allow for basic directional arrows. This limits abuse while allowing players to look at map & perceive the strategy, all without requiring squad micromanagement.
    The 2nd is the vehicle assignment. Since the topic is already afoot with players allowed to drive vehicle, it will be amplified with the MG addition. This happens with the PS2 Sunderer, which is a larger version of the HLL halftrack. Since the Sunderer placement is vital for effectiveness, even random players innocently firing the vehicle turrets regularly give away its position, causing more harm than good. So even with greater limits to player access, PS2 still implemented locking options for something we in HLL have not yet experienced.

    I agree with almost all of them except the body dragging mechanic. I find myself in situations as a medic where player's bodies are exposed to enemy fire. And even with smoke, narrow passageways like in towns, or open fields, the opposing players just shoots into the smoke anyway, or just throw a grenade. And they have succeeded alot. This mechanic would make my job as a medic a little easier and can get more downed players out of danger and into the fight. I do see your point that medic's job is quick and can revive players quickly, but even still, I think this mechanic can benefit the game.

    This game SERIOUSLY needs a mechanic where you can either snap to a cover, so you can easily shoot around it. Or, have many degrees of tilt and crouch. Like how escape from tarkov has. I've been in so many situations where I wanna peak, but my options are, half my body is out, or I can't see. Really annoying.
    Imo, there should be a snap to cover and degrees of tilt options. In warzone, there is a snap to cover button, and I really enjoy using it. It's not always great, sometimes there is a pipe in the way or some such thing. But like 80% I find value in it.

    Here is what I wish HLL did have
    1. In warfare, no squad besides recon can move 1 sector behind the current point,
    2. No one can cap past the midpoint until 30 minutes have passed in the match,
    3. In offensive, defense has time 5 minutes to setup on the first point, the attacking squad gets 45 minutes to attack the first point, then 30 for the following points, have only 3 cap points instead of 5.
    4. I would to be able to Re supply from ammo boxes more than once
    5. This is my most important one- Remove squad and Command chat, Proximity chat only and we have to have a radio man nearby for Command chat.

    Half track is a heavy armored vehicle. It is absolutely a tank. It may not have the cannon, but it’s still an armored assault vehicle with tracks. I’d consider it a heavy that requires a tank crew to operate. It would require tank like operations to be effective, especially the driving aspect.

    I disagree with the map marker point. While i dont want any dck art, squad for example has helpful presets for thing like moving direction, flank angles etc. Also, i think a commander should be able to assign icons and markers per squad so its not a constant back and forth . Command chat is way too loud and full already, it would be so much better if there is non verbal communication via the map

    I disagree with the specialized squad part simply because coordination is very rare and difficult to achieve. So many people leave when I announce “somebody go engineer.” By having a specialized engineer squad it’s much more easier to coordinate with other engineers and the commander with squad chat to get nodes down and fortify and ferry supplies. But I only think a engi unit should exist.

  • @shogaal14
    @shogaal14 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't entirely agree re specialized squads. Having a dedicated engineer squad for Offensive matches would be a big help when trying to coordinate defenses. Yes, you can do something similar through local chat, but it just makes herding the cats even more challenging.
    While the current system is flexible, it's also open to abuse. E.g. there are limits on the number of tank squads, but not so for AT guns, meaning that you theoretically could have 50 AT guns on a match at once (the worst I've seen is ~10 at one time). Given the fact that they can be rebuilt almost instantaneously, it has the potential to be hugely overpowered. The only limiting factor is a team's failure to cooperate, which doesn't seem like the best safeguard.

    • @GebatronGaming
      @GebatronGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I can see your point of view here. Like I’ve seen some of the competitive teams use this system to really spam AT roles. I’m still not sold on your take but I can see where you’re coming from. Thanks!

    The reason people rather sit in a queue is because more often then not those servers properly manage their rules and have active admins. I don’t have to deal with some kid tk’ing me over and over or have someone who’s blatantly cheating (whether that be ghosting or hacking) and have admins do nothing. Sure you can make the argument “then just pay for vip” but not everyone is so comfortable wasting money on a subscription to a server. Then there’s also the consideration of how many people are trying to join friends. Only point I disagree with lol, great vid!

      Yeah I like it in Tarkov. Tarkov doesn’t give you a specific number and your magazines don’t automatically fill up after each reload. No to level locks on officer, for sure. We always need more of those, and they can learn from better players in their squad. Commander could probably use it, though, it has a much more harmful affect on everyone, and it's not required for seeding... If you don't like you SL, start a new squad. If your commander is throwing the game away, you'll probably have to either play through it and have your time wasted, or switch servers.
    I do wish half tracks would be limited to squad leaders and commanders only, though.

    WWII games that allow everyone to have an stg44 usually end up with just every single dirty sweatlord rocking one. Ruins both the fun and the realism. And yeah, made me think of H&G before you mentioned it. And I played before you could unlock a captured weapon as your own loadout. Introduction of that feature was one of the things that made me move away from the game.

    re: the level locks for Squadleader... I've never really seen levelnumbers as indicative of ability if I'm honest. Someone could be level 1 and have tonnes of experience with playing a squad lead on say Post Scriptum, only to be barred from the role on HLL because they haven't put in a prerequisite number of hours. I feel that would pretty quickly sink the game itself, and just attract rather unwelcome elements to the playerbase. If you have a good server, it doesn't matter what level you are, as you get help from the more experienced players anyway. Personally I hate playing squadlead. I prefer to play supporting roles and let someone else direct the whole show. :P

      @GebatronGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure…depending on the other mechanics involved. Makes perfect sense in Squad where it takes a long time to revive, there is also a ticket system, and ammo isn’t replenished with a respawn. With HLL it takes maybe 5 seconds to revive and heal which can all be done prone. To drag you’d have to be crouching at the very least and you’re movement speed would be impacted. It would literally take longer to drag them to cover all while being more exposed. It just isn’t a great mechanic for HLL with the way that the game is currently designed.

    The rest of the points i completely agree with however.

    • @GebatronGaming
      @GebatronGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would argue that it is a competitive feature. I juxtapose HLL and Squad in the video specifically because Squad has a ticket system. Those tickets deplete every time a soldier dies and running out of tickets means you lose the match. Often times games that have tickets like this can come down to whichever team has the better medics. Reviving also takes a little longer in Squad. There is no ticket system in HLL. You lose manpower but that isn’t a victory condition like in Squad so fleshing out these features make sense in Squad more so than in HLL. In HLL it would almost entirely be an immersion feature as waiting that long to be dragged and revived actually would keep players out of the fight longer with no real benefit in most cases. I wish HLL had a more fleshed out system where deaths had more of an impact and there were more negative consequences for deaths. Also I’m mostly responding to people who request that the medic role be the only role that can drag bodies in an attempt to keep the role unique. I would welcome the change as long as all players could drag bodies even though it would have little benefit without larger meta changes.
      Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!

    I do want the max engineer count to be set to 2 per squad whilst, and only if, the satchel is removed or replaced by a "wire cutter" or something that functions as a deconstruction tool (also for enemy mines). I think it is weird that to reinforce a point you need like 4 engineers from 4 different squads who can't communicate directly with eachother unless in proximity.
    In a squad with higher level players - there are too many Satchels going around already though.
    Alternatively/additionally I would like SL loadout to be more versatile, i.e. the SL can have a less agressive loadout with an ammo box or a engineer tool. Pro's for this would be: More people willing to play SL, SL not being played like an assault class (and dieing all the time), a fix for the disconnect between who plays SL (cooperative, tactics and logistics oriented players) vs its point-man loadout (pure aggression, lots of ammo and grenades). A con might be that the SL becomes a one-man army(knife) that doesn't have to rely on his squad enough to encourage cooparation - so not extreme versatility.
    I am not thinking from a "ww2 perspective" but pure gameplay enjoyment.

    I don't agree with adding mag checks to HLL, but saying it's simply "looking at the top of the mag and magically knowing how many rounds are left," is a bit inaccurate.
    Many magazines have small holes on the back with tiny numbers engraved by them that can show at a glance how many rounds are left inside. This is actually what is being represented in games that have this feature.
    The reason this wouldn't work in HLL is that many of the weapons just aren't mag fed, so this wouldn't make sense for a large portion of the arsenal.

    • @GebatronGaming
      @GebatronGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes many magazines do have holes so you can see where the rounds are. Perhaps a game exists out there where your player actually looks at those holes, but I have not seen that in a game. Furthermore my list is a response to what people ask for in the different platforms. What I see requested is something like “we should be able to pull out our magazine and know how many rounds are left.” Not “about how many rounds are left” or “estimate how many are left” which to me indicates that they aren’t interested in a mechanic like Tarkov or Squad where you get a rough idea within a couple of rounds. I even showed Tarkov to highlight that the player does not look at the back or sides of the mag, but the top and because that’s the case we only get a rough estimate. Additionally, not all the weapons in HLL have box magazines, but they all have a magazine. Even the bolt action rifles have internal magazines that IRL can be checked. You just hold the rounds in while opening the action. Same with the Garand. You are able to open the action while holding the clip in and check rounds.
      I think the reason it doesn’t make sense is because ammo isn’t calculated per mag and is instead calculated as a total sum. Since checking a mag and changing a mag take the same amount of time then it doesn’t make sense to have it. If mags were calculated individually and ammo was persistent then I would change my view on this and want mag checks of some kind.

Lets just change the entire game to a Hazard Risk Assessment and Minute writing session where before you can launch your attack, and only after you're sent through a resupply request in triplicate to the supply dept for ammunition, water and food

    Gebatron gaming i got a tip for you to put in one of your tips videos, i found out from a streamer terrydacttyl gaming
    When youre about to push on an enemy thats just around a corner whos aware youre there already and you have a machine gun or smg or plenty of bullets fire into the floor between you amd the enemy player as you push the corner to kill them and this will keep that player suppressed. Making it harder for him to aim at you.
    I tried it a few times and i have to say it APPEARS to work.
    Ive not lost a one on one knife fight on a corner yet. As long as you dont accidently fire off yoyr ammo so that by the time you have them in your sights you are empty!!! 😆
    Yeah i did that today lol
    I actually managed to run away as he fired at me (i think the suppression actually helped with this moment maybe!?!) anyway so i saved it , it was quite funny, as i screamed, ran and reloaded i managed to turn and nail them!!
    Sweeeet 😀😀

    With a high queue size and a low queue size, I can still hardly ever get into a server on either Squad/Post Scriptum or HLL. And when I do, I get into a terrible server every time.

    Well, they added bolt action rifle malfunction (as if it wasn't slow enough) and now sometimes when you press LMB the bullet doesn't go out. Very frustrating indeed

    I use queues because the ping on servers outside of my region have terrible pings. So I can't enjoy the game unless its a west server regularly there's only one server that has people in it in my region.

    It'd be really nice if they added server browser, or at least preferred game mode to console...
