    I still have SpeedCross 3 from 2011! Bottom spikes are almost gone, but I still wear them! Worth every dollar spend. I hope version 5 will last as long as 3.

      I still have version 5, although I mostly use it for winter running. I did a follow up review video that you should check out too: th-cam.com/video/c_EA6e9uvYo/w-d-xo.html

    Hi. I use these shoes as hikking/trekking shoes in the Swiss Alps. Got more than 300km on them and I frankly love them. They feel like a pair of socks. The lacing is so well done and give a regular smooth and tight feeling. Last week end pushed them to their limit with 10k hike that included crossing 2 glaciers. Their limit were going through a snow slope (neve) with melted snow. Feet were soacked.
    Except water crossing I don't think these shoes have limits. Great video! Cheers

      Thanks for watching! I still use this shoe as my snow running shoe and love it for that! Maybe I'll put together a "Long Term Review" this winter since my videos have improved since publishing this one. At any rate, thanks again and please subscribe if you haven't already done so. Really appreciate your feedback and experience in the shoe!

      How are your soles holding up? I have had mine since okt 2019, but they are almost flat and I don't think there are more than 500km on them. I have to be honest that I used them on the road more then I expected because the are such a nice fit so I used them for hiking in the rain to work as well.

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've heard and have seen that the soles don't last very long if you use them on the concrete or pavement. Mine have been used almost exclusively in the snow so my outsoles still looks like new.

    • @TopanKJ
      @TopanKJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SeeChadRun surely these soles are not built to last for ever. They are made to grip very on all surfaces. Its like car tyres: don't expect that a long lasting set will have a good grip...

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So very true! However, the lugs will definitely wear out faster if you use them on hard packed surfaces like concrete.

  • @haydarkutuk2322
    @haydarkutuk2322 ปีที่แล้ว

    The grip on wet rocks is very poor which makes rock hopping when creek crossings scary dangerous. I tested on dry slabby rocks also and found the grip not good at all. The fit is good but the rubber traction is not good unfortunately.

    Seriously? this sounds a very positive reveiw. I've loved my Speedcross 4s Had lots of pair over the last 6 year. BUT this shoe had to go back. The pain on my insole was unbareable. It was like running on a knife. Don't get me rong I love Salomon but these weren't for me. From what you're saying I may have had a dud pair.

    • @SeeChadRun

      Thanks for the comment! I posted a follow-up review on this shoe so be sure to check that out, but in that review my biggest complaint about the shoe was the stiffness of the midsole. I feel like that she was very well made and has a lot going for it but I just can't get over how stiff the midsole is.

    Does this shoe work on grassy areas with mud and, for example door to trail? So like running on a road for 2 miles to get to the trail? Would it be useful for me?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This shoe would do great in the grassy/soft/mud area, but not so great on the road. The lugs are too deep and the shoe just doesn't have the response to make it a comfortable road shoe. From Salomon, the Sense Pro 4 or Sense Ride 3 may be better for your use.

    • @Invisible_Socks

      Wet grass it performs well

    • @TopanKJ
      @TopanKJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never found a limit to their grip. Wet tree roots, grass, mud, rocks. The nubs are like suction devices.

    • @TopanKJ
      @TopanKJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ...but avoid roads.... it will ruin them. Looking at the nubs, its just physics

    I'm still using the SpeedCross 4 (got 2 pairs on sale a couple of years ago) but I have my eye out for a good sale on the 5s. I find they aren't as responsive as my Sense Rides but for serious snow and off trail conditions, you cant beat the Cross. Have you ever tried a shoe with built in microspikes or added some screws to a show for icy conditions?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried a shoe with built in microspikes. Solomon makes the Spikecross 5 GTX, which looks like it would be perfect in snow and ice conditions. I do find the midsole pretty firm on the Speedcross 5 and wish it was softer. Other than that, it's a phenomenal shoe.

    How do you reckon these are for running on pavement?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      They're not very good on pavement. Midsole is too stiff and the big lugs don't allow a smooth transition from heel or midfoot to toe off. Feels clunky on the concrete or pavement when running. In snow or soft dirt, they're phenomenal!

      are they much stronger then normal nikes???

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Solomon Speedcross 5 is a very well built shoe! Almost overkill for most trails in my opinion. I don't think there's any way that you're going to wear this shoe out with the exception of the outsole over time.

    Are these shoes good for hiking?

    • @SeeChadRun
      @SeeChadRun  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know many people who use these for hiking and I would recommend them as they would provide great protection and traction. If you need more ankle support then a more traditional hiking shoe might be better but if not then these would be just fine for hiking.

    • @TopanKJ
      @TopanKJ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! I put more than 300k on them in the Swiss Alps and the only downside is when crossing rivers or wet snow compare to a trekking boot.... and no blisters! ;-)

    • @skopa1223
      @skopa1223 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d say they’re amazing for hiking with a bit of speed mixed in. Awesome on inclines and declines.
      I do have a pair of the Wildcross gtx and Cross Pros for when I want more nimble shoes...especially as far as lateral movement. I believe the Wildcross is a bit lower to the ground and has a less aggressive drop, so a bit more ground feel and more stable (less tippy at the heal).
      They both have very similar lugs as far as depth and spacing. So they shed mud really well.
      Also Speedcross has a more typical Salomon tor box, whereas the Wildcross has a bit more room up front.

      For me, they fit exactly true to size. My brother got a half size bigger and in my opinion there is too much room and he should have gone true to size as well.
