    I thought you weren't supposed to wind it around the peg? Just pull the string taut, tighten and cut!

      @@Karlgolden Not necessarily. To avoid string breakage it’s best to have at least a half turn of string around the post, otherwise all of that string tension sits on that 90 degree angle on the post hole and makes it much more likely to snap. Half winding takes off a lot of that tension and doesn’t affect your tuning stability.

    Dude the beauty of the locking tuner is speed and length . It’s quick not to wrap it 3-5 times around the tuner . Also the wraps around the tuner stretch move and slip that causes tuning issues you just eliminate 1-3” of string so less to stretch . Cool to see a father son working together good job Mate ! Thanks for the video. I like your style great vibrato that’s how I like to play as well . Speed is fun and needed but it’s worthless with out the feel ! Great playing buy your dad that beer !

    I bought these locking tuners ages ago, finally put them in a few days ago and I couldn't believe the difference. As soon as the new strings were stretched it was holding better than before.

  • @zerozerotwosix

    7:24 I noticed you wound your strings a little too much on the tuning machine, like as in you should have less tuning retention issue if you only leave about an inch of slack before winding the tuners when you change strings. Try that next time, even with your locking tuners, it should help even further.

    Did this upgrade to my new to me 2011 Fender Blacktop Jaguar 90 the other day .Was the easiest drop in ever .Fitted a Graph Tech Tusq nut and a roller string tree while I was at it .Also sanded the neck from a sticky gloss to a silky smooth satin and darkened the fret board with Momty's Montypresso relic wax .Like a new guitar now ,can't beat locking tuners I've thought about Graph Tech ratio tunrts too but the price is ridiculous so Fender will do fine.

    Great video, you can shred bro and fyi, you dont need all that slack on the strings. Just pull them all the way through , lock, and tune. The strings shouldn’t rap around the peg. It will actually help the tuning stability even more so.

    I replaced most of the electronics and pots on my squier standard stratocaster, I replaced the pickups with the yosemite set by fender they sound killer, replaced the neck with a genuine fender roasted maple neck I did have to mod a little for the tuning machines to fit but all is good now, it's a parts caster now, love it, the tuners are definitely worth replacing.

    The more times you wrap it around the more it'll get out of tune. With locking tuners you don't need to wrap them around the tuner so many times. I do it for half of a turn only.

  • @hristo_panov
    @hristo_panov 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I don't think the guitar stays in tune because the tuners are locking. It stays in tune because these are just better tuning machines and also staggered. I have locking tuners on cheap guitar which are worse than anything. Be advised that 1 turn is more than enough with good locking tuners
    The tension springs need to be checked in such cases. If adjustment doesn't help you can always add one or replace them. :)

    But did you just butch it? I thought the idea of a locking tuner is to use the locking grip to tighten to the string so that you don't need to coil he string? And that is the great idea of locking tuners that prevent string slippage, or so I've been told. I saw a luthier swap strings on a guitar with locking tuners and I think he pre stretched the string pretty tight just by hand, clamped down the string by the string lock and when he tuned the guitar I would say a bout a 90 degrees angle on the string. No need to coil the string around the peg. The locking tuners clamping forces are keeping the strings in place. Are you sure you are using them locking tuners correct?

    The reason locking tuners seem to improve your tuning is only part of the solution, and most likely the least of your problems. The biggest cause of tuning instability is a poorly setup bridge and nut. Start there. Is the bridge floating or decked? Are you using decent springs? How are your bridge saddles? Are they in good condition and lubed? Is your nut cut correctly to the gauge of your strings and properly lubed to avoid binding? How about string trees? Those who think locking tuners solve all of your tuning problems are usually participating in a fools game. The main benefit of locking tuners isn’t tuning stability. It’s for faster string changes.

    The tuning of a guitar is not depending on the locking tuners, let's cut that taboo fake belief. The proof is when you use your tremolo and it gets worst. The guitar (tremolo here) is simply not set up correctly. Check the videos about it, not hard to do and it will change everything. Cheers.
