It's not a big difference. The difference between 650 and 730 is much more. I believe most buyers of the 770 is just buying it because it's the biggest of them all. But numbers don't lie, it is a fantastic engine.

Well, the choice of engine is hard. Smaller engines is more economical to the point when a bigger engine work less for the same pull. So you really have to calculate what type of driving the truck will be used for before deciding. At least now a days. In Sweden, a litre of diesel costs over €1.9
Love the Scania V-8, wish we had them here in Canada. I get to drive treelength at 64k with 525hp @ 1200rpm on hill. A Detroit DD16 @ 560hp same kg's, can pull one more gear faster on the hill than my truck. 35 to 50hp on a hill, the torque is a big pulling power difference.

Upto around 70-80 ton you can use basically a standard run of the mill truck 460 volvo 450 scania or 460 daf for example. It will pull it maybe not win any speed records but you will see low loaders in England with bog standard daf xf with cat 2 written on them that will run to 80ton if your going to 100 you probably want a 530daf or 540 volvo or 520 or 580 scania they would take you to around 120 ton again not well but would pull it. The 750volvo and 770 scania would pull 250ton that's really what there designed for super heavy. There used in the lower weight as 2 reasons bragging rights and speed. Not because there actually needed. Really for almost all mainstream heavy haul in Europe (up to 150ton) you wouldn't ever need more than a 650 scania even that is slightly overkill. If you drive a truck that's 450-500hp with a heavy haul over 44ton in the uk you realise how much power they have to give. Some supermarkets use 360 and 400 for 44ton double deckers and I know Some are overweight maybe not by much but 45 or 46 ton maybe more. And they pull them just fine. I hope this helps. Trucks really have so much power. If you can pull a plane with a car again maybe not any speed records imagine what a truck can do with about 3 or 4 times the torque and 3 times the engine size. Yes I'm referring to the porsche and vw touareg videos.
@@philipsmith4849 At the moment i'm driving 24 ton with 450hp Scania. It goes up with 30 kmh on a 6% hill. If you'd have almost 3x that weight with just 10hp more, i'm pretty darn sure you can clap your hands if it manages to even go with 10 kmh uphill.
Because it takes less to travel that uphill nd keeps higher gear because of more power. Less power goes slower takes more time to go same distance uphill, lower gear and high rpm well not so efficient 😳😳
You tell scania your operations, they come up with a service plan that suits you, it’s all variable, scania parts and service is relatively okay, especially compared to daf they’re expensive

770S is going to better truck, it's the improvement of 730R, But try install a twin turbo on the intakes with boost gauge, readjust the ecu to twin turbo set of 730R and then test on same high with 770S beside it.. I think the result are going to be same or better..Thats my opinion..👍👍
I noticed when pulling heavey weight more hp mens more efficient also higher speed over all I had 2 trips 1 Volvo fh500 52t with 64l% and same trip again with fh540 same load 52l%

I have a 2016 r730 and the pulling power and Economy have been really disappointed this dose not surprise me after driving a Volvo Fh16 from 2010 to 2016 which was 10 mph faster on most severe grades

That swiss hillclimb, the one to go to milan if I remember correctly, is hard. Also, there is an hillclimb like that in the UK, but, I don't usually go there.
There's no much of a difference really, I'm new the the v8 world just got a 580 had a 500 before n wow what a difference a hill im usually climbing at 39mph im going up at 49 50mph
If only Volvo would do something with the gearbox. It was good when it was relasead almost 20 years ago but nothing really has happend since, it still okay with 13l engines but not for top of the range 16l engines. When you are down in lower gears. 8 and lower and need to downshift engine revs needs to be at almost 2000 or it won't downshift or it just misses the gear and you are stuck. Same with up shifts. It just wont do it without over reving the engine. Also the 1st gear is terrible geared. Even with a rear axel so you are doing 2000rpms at 80 the 1st is just to high for construction work. None of this has been a problem with opticruise since the second generation around 2010. You can even start in the lowest crawler gear in the middle of a 10% gradient and it will shift up just fine without stalling. Same with downshifts, no need to be over 1500 rpm, will just do it. Also even a 730 is faster than the 750
