    People - please note this is really just an unboxing video, not the complete setup. We have been tweeking it for some months now and the Guys from Technics were so impressed with the sound they made a second visit just to listen to it on our system. It does justice to a Naim Statement system with Focal Scala Utopia (Evo 2) speakers, and is likely to be the best Analogue setup you can hear right now !

    In the UK this turntable costs £14,000:00! I have been listening to music for the last 40 years if asked “should I spend £14,000:00 on a turntable”? I think that I would say no.... spend £2,000:00 on a turntable, arm and cartridge and £12,000:00 on records!

    4:33, just stack another 5 to 7 vinyls on top of each other and the bubble level on the arm will go to the center. (For the critics out there, I’m just joking), beautiful piece of equipment, enjoy and thanks for the video.

    Or did you buy it separately?

    • @williamwhite9201
      @williamwhite9201 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Thanks for your comment. The turntable comes without a cartridge or headshell - it's actually the Ortofon Cadenza Blue we put on there at first. Though currently we have the MySonic Signature Platinum cartridge - awesome, but very steep!

    • @QoraxAudio
      @QoraxAudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@williamwhite9201 Cool! I didn't notice that it was a Candenza Blue, it looked all black to me, my bad. I've never heard one of those MySonic cartridges. Mostly because those are priced above my paygrade haha
      Spending 3500 euros on my SL-1200G was quite the investment to me already.
      Most of the time I'm using my turntable with a 2M Black and a KAB TD-1000 tonearm damper to compensate for the high cartridge compliance.
      It's amazing how great MM cartridges can sound nowadays. They have come a long way.

      That level looks like a line level that's used by masons and others believe it or not. Check places like Lowes, Home Depot, and Harbor Freight. I was given something similar a bunch of years ago and they're handy for a number of small uses.

    • @nomorokay
      @nomorokay 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@parrisgeorge9708 Exactly. I have a black one that came from a hardware store. Those line levels cost under $5, and they're made of soft plastic, so they can easily be bent out of shape. For probably $10, you can get a slightly larger and more accurate level. Try Lee Valley or Home Depot, or Lowe's, etc.

    No doubt its a beautiful turntable and Iam sure it sounds amazing,but I dont agree with 20k price tag. I mean,you can buy BMW or Ducati motorcycle for this kind of money. Obviously it goes a lot more engineering,mechanical and electronics into a motorcycles than this turntable. So,by comparing diferent mechanical products with motors ,you can see that this Technics is aimed not at music lovers,but at rich customers that have more money than sence or they just dont care about the price...

    • @dagnut
      @dagnut 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Think of this more like a high end watch.. A casio will tell the time just as well as a Patek phillipe but one is a mass produced product and one is a hand made piece of mechincal art..

    • @ericochoa4034
      @ericochoa4034 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Exactly people with just money to burn. The damn thing dont even cost half of that to make. Rich people just live on another planet from us mere mortals. Also I may add that I dont care what any crazy audiophiles think but there is no way this thing sounds much better than a 1500 dollar turntable. I mean Im sure it does but the difference in price does not justify the performance increase! You might get slightly better audio performance but no way in hell will it be worth the price. Really all you are paying for is better materials but that still dont justify that huge price tag. I mean at the end of the day it's just a turntable and I think once you go over the 2000 dollar mark you really have reached a ceiling in performance. Anyone that tells you otherwise is smoking crack!

      @42mantua 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ericochoa4034 I agree with you 110%. These audiophiles would try to argue you down with a whole bunch of technical lingo. And yes alot of these "Hi End" items look pretty and sounds beautiful. At the end of the day its really more so a
      status symbol . 50k for a turntable, 30k for a pre amp, 20k for a mono block etc etc. Way overpriced. Good quality sound can be obtained for way less and dont let anyone tell you any different. What gets me the most is that have the people who talk the most about it and come off all particular cant even afford it. Basically toys for the rich who has money to burn.
      Tell the Truth shame the devil.😉 Peace

    • @nomorokay
      @nomorokay 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ericochoa4034 Actually, the turntable should cost 1/4 of retail price to build, like any other product. It doubles in price when it goes from the manufacturer to the distributor, who then doubles the price when he sells it to the dealer. That's how it works. People got spoiled with the prices of the old 1200/1210s, the ones that had amortized the cost of their engineering and tooling decades ago, plus they were so tough that you could buy used ones in good condition at much lower prices.
      Then along comes 2018, and we see completely new turntables that have new and much higher engineering and tooling costs, and it's like 1972 all over again, adjusted for inflation, of course. If you're happy with an SL-1200 G or GR, good for you, but don't mock the pricing of the statement turntable that represents the best that Technics can produce.
      For a car example, compare a Nissan Maxima with a Nissan GT-R. The factory pops out tens of thousands of the cheaper model, but not nearly as many of the GT-R that costs two or three times as much, and whose engine is completely assembled by one of only five certified and highly respected assemblers. Is the GT-R's price outrageous, or is that just what it costs to get that level of performance and build quality?
      One last thing: as performance increases, the gains get smaller and more expensive. That applies to nearly any product. In some cases, a product that costs 30-40% of the price of the high-end product gives you 90% of the performance. If that last 10% isn't important to you, or if you want to spend your money on other things, so be it. Some guys will sacrifice other things to get the fastest car or the best-sounding turntable, and some won't. Nobody's stupid. People just have different priorities.
      Besides, why so much criticism of a turntable you've never had a good chance to listen to? A careful listening session might maker you a believer.
      You make your choice and you pay your money.
