My mother was a Dub, she noticed the rapid decline in the church in Ireland and the U.S. many years ago, she said that eventually the church will end up in the home, she passed is 2016, I think what she said is quickly coming into fruition. It's encouraging to listen to the young people who are believers. Praise to you lord Jesus Christ.
This is true worldwide all denominations. We need to simplify our lives. The scandals are human issues across the board, humans are flawed, its a fallen world.
Thank you, I started listening to Fr , Chris Alar, Devine Mercy Talks on youtube, and what a marvellous treasure this has been over the last few months. Ironic as I'm Irish. There are a few good priests left . Please god things will only get better. Ann
I'm 55 years old and to be honest the church has been in decline all my life I remember in the 1970's my parents saying about young people leaving the church the decline went from a gradual thing back then and in the 80's to a bigger exodus in the 90's after the abuse scandals but the meadia have always had a mission to get religion gone not just in Ireland but all over the world. Hopefully the decline has peaked or soon will and more young people and adults alike will see the merits of this good and compationate religion.
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth no one will see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." I wonder what those young people believe. Do they believe that you need to let nature or God have its way and give 10 or 12 or 15 kids? Do they believe you have to stay with an abusive spouse, or live your life alone if you leave? Do they believe you can trust a priest with their kids? Do they think gay people have to live alone and celibate? Do they believe you have to submit to the church?
Clergy seem to contradict themselves or they are brain washed. They state, the young people still have the faith, but admit they don't go to Mass or attend Church. How can you belong to a church if you don't attend their Mass and believe Bread changes into God. They are kidding themselves oh yes the Catholic Church has all these great rules Mass ,Bread into God, tell a man your sins.only a man, women can't be priests. Have they not realized very few people believe these outdated customs. Children receive communion ,but its only because their parents want to dress them up as miniature models for the day. They get Communion and Mass once, and that's an end of it. You wint see them agsin till thrir wedding day in an outfit costing thousands.its a fashion show. Next appearance Baptism with a huge knees up afterwards. You don't believe me,well put it to the test, tell the children and the parents they can only make their first communion in an everyday dress or a school uniform, and see how many will turn up for it. Don't make too many sandwiches,I'd say about two would do in each parish.
@@gumis123PL We're talking about the tradition of the church. That's totally separate from a teenager following some fashion trend that she'll grow out of.
I'm from Ireland. All is not lost, many still go to Mass, pray and have faith. In my local Cathedral all ages attend Mass, I also see a rise in people receiving Holy Communion kneeling on the tongue. The media in Ireland try and make out only elderly practice the faith but this is simply not true at all. St Patrick prophecied the fire would ignite once again starting in the North of Ireland, and spread all over the country. Ireland will be the Land of Saints and Scholars once again. A very fine example of just how deluded you are!!! catholicism is almost dead - the world has moved on and there is NO going back no matter how you wish for it..!!
I ask:. Have you ever read the real Biogaphy of St. Patrick? 1rst he was not Irish, he was British. His GrandFather & Father were EVANGELISTS. Not Roman Catholics. _When he managed to Escape his Irish Kidnappers, he returned to England and also became an Evangelist. _Then he decided to return to Ireland and Evangelize that Celtic Human Sacrificing nation. _As always the Roman Catholics took advantage of his Fame & incorporated late Patrick, by giving him the 'Saint' title. Like Joan of Ark, they Burned her Alive, then made her a Saint! ✓ Salvation & Eternal Life is found ONLY by having Faith on The Christ of Nazareth; with Repentance and Adult Baptism in Living Waters!
Patrick was not Catholic. He was a member of the Celtic or Culdee church. Like all dead, he is in the grave, awaiting the resurrection. He can neither hear nor answer prayers

Faith is associated with what we believe or disbelieve in. It's important to understand that when a person says: I believe in or disbelieve in ; ALL they are doing is making a statement about themselves, based on their whole experience of growing up. We cannot believe for somebody else. While people are entitled to believe in whatever they want to: they are NOT entitled to make it a LAW for others. One of the reasons that so many people criticise people and institutions around then is that: it gives them some sort of pseudo justification for their own actions - it makes them feel better in themselves.
I don't see many young people at mass but all the young people I know are much kinder and compationate than my generation were so hopefully they or maybe their children return to the faith.
We could have the same kind of video, but with Quebec. Quebec used to be this very pious nation, but now it has declined ans there is a lot of hatred for the church and I live there. Please pray for Quebec

Tried living without God as a youth and peace wasn’t there. First time back to confession was amazing, felt like a weight lifted. Still a work in progress and the church has been an immense help.
I agree, I think our generation is differentiating between the modern culture of the Church and its true origins. This mentality we think of as “Catholic” largely has origins in the 1950’s (& earlier into the Victorian era); I’ve noticed young believers tend to start with an interest in the much earlier history. Young people are increasingly interested in classical studies (albeit from a secular lens) and this eventually ties into Christianization of Europe by the end of the Roman Empire - this resurrects a fresh intrigue. In many ways I think young believers relate to the sentiment of building anew among the ruins of the old world, with little support, on faith alone embarking into foreign territory. We see that the Church has undergone change whilst keeping its doctrine and traditions, it has survived scandal and corruption, it can and will again. We have witnessed the failing of protestantism and this renews our trust in the ancient tradition. This may be for the good, to weed out those who remain for the sake of culture alone and not faith. This new generation entering the clergy (though few) cannot possibly be motivated by authority, because there is none any longer to be gained. The new generation is also vulnerable, susceptible to addictions and increasingly fed up with their meaningless, sinful society that profits off their vices. We’re sick of the excess, we now again crave piety. This is why the new Church will likely be comprised of converts - in the footsteps of Paul. This old Catholicism is dead, its true - but I believe there is hope and I have seen it.

Im a Londoner born and bred. My dad was Indian and my mum was Ethiopan. Paki is a British term made up by British and Irish Catholics in the 1950's. The British and Irish Catholics used it as a way to take the piss out of the strange accent and strange facial features of the newly arrived Pakistanis and Indians into Britain and LATER Ireland. In a similiar fashion, the British and American Protestants made up the word NIGGER in the 1920's in Britiain and America - whilst British and Irish catholics made up the word Paki in the 1950's in Britain and LATER Ireland. NIGGER came from the word NEGRO in Britain and America during the 1800's and was made up by British and American Protestants as a way of degrading the facial features and strange accent of Blacks. PAKI came from the word PAKISTANI in the 1950's in Britain and LATER Ireland and was made up by the British and Irish Catholics as a way of degrading the facial features and strange accent of south Asians. But The Catholics and the Protestants were NOT cruel to people purely on the basis of skin complexion. Here is the proof........... Irish Catholics loved Blacks - but hated Indians. On the other hand, American and British Protestants hated Blacks - but loved Indians. This proves that neither the Irish Catholics OR the British /American Protestants were ever racist to people on the basis of skin colour. These certain prejudices simply arose on the basis of certain cultural clashes in the communities combined with differences in the phenotypical facial structures of the various individuals in question which made people feel uneasy. It was NOT (and never) based on skin complexion as NONE of the White Celtic peoples in Britain were ever racist to people purely on the basis of the colour of their skin.
I went to Church and found the people quite self-interested. They all wanted to launch missions in Japan and China. I recommended that they launched one in their own street as the Church had around 30 people there. This was met with silence.

One truth in particular: the Church requires, ABOVE ALL ELSE, emphasis on the vertical relationship between God and man. The unique mission of the Church is to make manifest a Reality that transcends this world. The horizontal relationship between man and man follows naturally from the vertical one but can never, ever be a substitute. My parish is always full on Sunday with young families. I pray that the Church stops trying to pander to the least common denominator and pivots back to tradition because that’s what the people NEED!
Well the education system in america is terrible so its not surprising people buy into the fairy stories and dont look at the repeated hiding of child rapists by the church.
I wonder with the push for hyper intellectual thinking in schools it misses the depth of intellect found in faith/religion. What is sad is the deep intellectual rational and traditional thoughts of Catholicism is being missed by huge generations. If only people who moved away knew the wellspring of knowledge in Catholicism that they are missing out. There is hope in the young generation wanting tp find this faith.
"Hyper intellectual thinking in schools"... that's quite a euphemism for the dumbing down and brainwashing into illogical social and identity theories that is actually going on. Saint Thomas Aquinas, pray for us!!
The intellectual Tradition of the Catholic Church is surely unappreciated and unexplored by most modern people, but the main issue in my opinion is unwillingness to submit to God and obey His Law. This world has become extremely prideful and therefore sin is becoming the norm.
Your spot on. When I became a catholic and started studying I couldn't believe the depth of thinking in the Church. Like Thomas Aquinas. Sometimes I read one of his articles and I'm left thinking about it for an hour. ( he also puts forth 5 proofs for God's existence for anyone interested).

I'm a 16 year old from Dublin who converted to Catholicism at 14. There are some strong Catholic parishes across Ireland however the reality is it is dwindling in most. Many young people are drawn to the Traditional Latin Mass due to its beauty and reverence, you'll find that many of the young families you see attending Mass in multitudes are in fact to Latin Masses and not to the Novus Ordo. Whilst Novus Ordo attendance diminishes, Traditional Latin Mass rises.
This is just liturgical tourism! People travel miles but have no affiliation or ministry either in their home parish or where they visit! There's no such thing as a golden age of liturgy. If you want to be authentic read Justin on the Eucharist.

So sad to see how the Catholic Church has declined in Ireland. I think the Management of the Church are not doing enough to revive it. We need Women and married priests for a start. A crowd of old men will not allow the Church to survive.
EWTN is a real Blessing. It gives evidence that the Holy Spirit IS WORKING and many ARE coming to Faith. Listen to this channel instead of the rubbish you see on MSM!
It's the same in England. Dwindling, elderly congregations with priests nearing retirement. However, small initiatives are helping to reinvigorate the sense of mission within our Parish. Raising the profile of our Catholic church within the town this winter through the 'Warm Space' project, in particular, was a great success. We have formed close bonds with many new people, a number of which are now regular visitors to our Lenten lunches and various social gatherings. Evangelisation comes in many forms, but a small act carried out in total love never fails to share the light of Christ with others 🙏
The girl @7mins with the white hat is spot on, the church has become watered down and it has embraced modernism, it doesn't offer anything different. People are craving something authentic and meaningful.
Excellent reporting and very appropriate story just before St. Patrick's Day.🍀 There appears to be hope for a much smaller and faithful Catholic Church in Ireland. 🙏
I have been told that Catholicism is a strong cultural identification rather than a theological one. I saw a survey that said 24% of Irish Catholics who attend mass regularly do not believe in God. The famous line when a priest met an Irish atheist. “Are you a Catholic atheist or a Protestant atheist “.
As a non-christian cultural Catholic, yes. What everyone around me, myself included, identify and practice is Folk Catholism or Catholic Animism. I do believe in God, Earth and the Holy Mother of both, it's cultural.
That was really heartening to listen to the young bearers of the Faith, there will be no Luke warm Christians...A vibrant joy Emirates from their souls, with Christ our Saviour nothing is impossible .....Praise God, and bless the land of St.Patrick with light ,hope and joy..Amen....
It’s interesting that the two young ladies have more faith and confidence in the Church than the priest and the bishop. Maybe that’s part of the problem. Thanks be to God for priests like Fr. Hughes.
Very well said by an authentic disciple of Jesus Christ. Thank you Bishop Cullinan. The restriction needs to be lifted on the true form of the Mass. Full tradition is what will heal the Church in Eire and around the world. That's where many priestly and religious vocations are and not in the dioceses.
The Catholic church teaches that's it's a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sunday so who's responsible for the mortal sin when the clergy closed the churches.
It’s not a mortal sin when you have a serious reason not to go. If you are sick, you cannot go. Not a sin. If the Church is closed, you cannot go. Not a sin. If there is a twig storm you cannot go. If your kids are sick, you cannot go. If you are too far away from the Church, through no fault of your own, and cannot travel, ( an hour or more) it’s not a sin. If those who took the decision to close it, did so in good faith for a grave reason, there is no sin. All of us are obliged to sanctify Sunday by honouring God . The Holy Mass is the preferred, best, and usual way to honour God on Sunday. If we cannot go to Mass, we must spend at the very least one hour in prayer, and also treat the whole day as the Lord’s Day, a day of prayer, a day of rest, a day of extra holiness. You can look up answers to worries like this, online, from the Catholic Catechism, or videos like Ascension Presents, or EWTN, or SSPX.
He says at 6 minutes " although the church was slow in responding " ....please, there was a concerted years long effort to cover it all up. How many priests were outed and moved elsewhere in Ireland and no attempt to embrace the law of the land.
I’ve met more Catholic Irishmen in a Knights of Columbus event than my 10+ days touring the Republic in 2016 when I was in high school. It’s horrific what the culture, foreign and domestic, did to the country. I wasn’t expecting much, but it was worse than I expected. Friends say it has gotten worse. I believe American Catholics are spearheading the traditional Catholic revival in the developed world, as we have had this problem longer, and religious freedom makes it easier to know whether someone is real or “cultural”. The “Great Awakening: Catholic Edition” if you will. Groups like this exist in many citifies. I’m relieved to see groups of young Irish are also forming these groups. I am blessed enough to have found one in Upstate New York, though later than I wish. They are very hard to find, but cannot be un-found. Paedo priests killed Catholicism in countries around the world including Ireland and US ...no coming back from that ...and let's face it more people believe in aliens 👽 than believe in God...maybe God was an alien ?...maybe all the gods Greek, roman, Norse, Egyptian, mayan, Hindu were all aliens who visited 1000s of years ago and with the technology that they had our ancestors believed them to be divine 👏
All the years I worked with the Irish in Ireland and the US, I don't remember meeting one who didn't have a hostility to the Catholic Church. They never told me the reasons why they hated the Church, but I have my guesses as to why. The Catholic Church will need to make drastic changes if they are to win back Ireland for the Lord and not simply trying to increase attendance at Sunday Mass.
I'm Irish and 27 years old and to be frank I want nothing to do with the church and neither does basically everyone under 40 I know. What the church did to Ireland is nothing short of disgusting and unforgivable. I believe in God but my belief will in no way be entwined with that church.
I think a lot of people had a general resentment at the social and sometimes legal rules that were imposed on us by a the church. I'd also add the tedium of it all - this was always a source of laughter as kids. However, the emergence of the abuse scandals in the 1990s triggered a rage in lots of people. The cruelty and hypocrisy of it broke the connection for many.
We hate them because they don't know GOD. If they did they wouldn't have done what they did to kids. It's a cult and ran our country like nazis. And teaches false doctrine. One way trip and not to Heaven if you follow their traditions.
I live in United States and I will say what I have seen happening in Canada and all across Europe it absolutely frightens me but I have faith in Christ and the holy church.
When asking your religion, the census doesn't give atheist as an option. People select the religion they were born into but if they had the option to select atheist, a lot less would select catholic.
That category includes me. We were born . by pure accident of birth, into the Catholic religion. Over time as I matured in years my consciousness of a fraud and scam imposed on simple uncritical minds grew. I am now a rather grumpy old atheist.
I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." For God so loved the world that He give His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but to save the World through Him. For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord, and All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. " If you want to be sure of Heaven and avoid the other place below say the following prayer sincerely from your heart." Lord Jesus I repent and am sorry for my sins forgive me. I forgive all who have offended me. Come into my heart and save me. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and baptise me with your Holy Spirit. Fulfill your plan and purpose in my life. "I recommend you read John's Gospel especially chapter 3.Gbu.John 3v3v22,John 14v6.
I wonder what those young people believe.
Eva got it spot on! Young people are longing for the tradition and the truth. Pray for the healing of the church.
😂 😂 😂
Don't make too many sandwiches,I'd say about two would do in each parish.
apparently that tradition includes nose piercings too eh

_When he managed to Escape his Irish Kidnappers, he returned to England and also became an Evangelist.
_Then he decided to return to Ireland and
Evangelize that Celtic Human Sacrificing nation.
_As always the Roman Catholics took advantage of his Fame & incorporated late Patrick, by giving him the 'Saint' title. Like Joan of Ark, they Burned her Alive, then made her a Saint!

I'm a lapsed catholic and have lost a lot of faith in Christianity. I'm starting to move more towards paganism
@@lightfootpathfinder8218 Pagans came to believe in Christ: Romans, Germanic, Irish, Vikings, Chinese etc etc. Another reason is charity, the Church did and does so much everywhere. Try getting really involved or go on mission. 🙏

Im a Londoner born and bred.

(The modern liturgy, of course, does all it can to disrupt vertical reverence and keep priest and congregation in a position of worshipping each other. )

American here. It’s sad to see what’s going on across the ocean but I will report that my anecdotal experience here in the US is quite different than what I’m seeing in Europe. The Faith is growing dramatically and I have many friends who are converting and craving more traditional Christian experiences through the Catholic Church. My parish is always full on Sunday with young families. I pray that the Church stops trying to pander to the least common denominator and pivots back to tradition because that’s what the people NEED!

The woke degenerate thugs want religion to be destroyed
@@michaelbarry6589 And, your evidence for "god" is...????
Your spot on. When I became a catholic and started studying I couldn't believe the depth of thinking in the Church. Like Thomas Aquinas. Sometimes I read one of his articles and I'm left thinking about it for an hour. ( he also puts forth 5 proofs for God's existence for anyone interested).

Love this priest who said God is essential ! ❤
Why?
It is a phenomenon across Europe. People rather seek fulfillment through political parties and materialistic centered ideologies.
LOL the younger generation believe in social justice and abortion and pornography and gay marriage and transgenderism and birth control and premarital sex etc... these are secular people. In the USA in 30 years for every white secular woman there will be four white Christian women and in France 20% of white devout Catholic French women have 70% of the native French children. Just saying the secular are not replacing themselves and the deeply religious have large families.
Tradgic
People are finally waking up from the horrible delusion that there is a god of some sort looking after you....religion has been responsible for the subjugation of millions over the centuries - and finally we are breaking free!!! Its like waking up on a sunny morning and looking out at the sea and the mountains - embrace it fully!!!!
It’s the awakening, god is like the tooth fairy and doesn’t exist and the proof is in the actions of so called religious peoples throughout history and modern times, and people have finally opened up to the truth
@@christopheroconnell3479 It's not an awakening at all, it's a *cultural trend towards materialistic dialectics* that *Marx* inspired across Europe.
Be assured, this lack of religion will be replaced by another religion. I say it already has.
St. Patrick, pray for Ireland.
Traditional Latin Mass is drawing big numbers of young people to the Catholic Church in Ireland. People don’t want the watered down new Mass fluff.
And because the traditional masses and orders are drawing large numbers of young people, the hierarchy has decided to destroy them, because obviously if you’re trying to sell a product certainly everyone will prefer new Coke to Coca-Cola.

Well said of Fr Owen and especially the honesty of Bishop Phonsie, both good and holy men!
God bless you, Fr PJ Hughes.
@@chrisnuttall3212 Or its just yearning for something more than a watered down Mass
@@tos4057 Im a 16 year old from Ireland too and I agree. I recently got to go to Italy with my school and I wandered off to get to mass and even though it was a normal Novus Ordo and in Italian, I could tell that it was so much more traditional. They had incense, loads of songs and the mass was at the least an hour long. It made me kinda sad that its so hard to find a church like that here
So sad to see how the Catholic Church has declined in Ireland.

The Bishops lifted the obligation to attend mass on Sundays.

We think this Christian way of living is dead, but God provides. I wish more people knew.

Raping children, hiding rapists from the law and keeping young women as slaves. Is the reason. seeing as you done have the guts to say it.
I hope that here in England that we will also get African missionaries to re-evangelise and reinvigorate us,
When asking your religion, the census doesn't give atheist as an option.
