No mention of the fact that the south of Britain is sinking as the north is rising. It is due to the rebound effect of the melting of 300m of ice over Scotland at the end of the last Ice Age.

This is just geography- coasts of erosion and coasts of deposition. We learned this at secondary school. Some parts of the coastline crumble into the sea, other parts of the coastline actually build land.

Why would we want to? Geology is geology and the reason our coastline is so magnificent is due to erosion. Build close to the coast, expect to lose the fight, at some point.
What isn't mentioned here, is that the geology of eastern England is actually tilting and sinking in a process called ‘isostatic rebound', A study from the University of Durham in 2009 found that parts of England will sink by up to five centimetres over the next century, adding between 10 to 33 percent on sea level rises.
I don’t remember much about school assemblies in the 1970’s but I do remember the vicar reading ‘ a wise man who built his house on the rock’. I completely missed the religious point of his address but understood the basic principles of construction- don’t build on sand or loose glacial sediments 😂

I know the Murdoch media is prone to misleading, but this takes the cake. Somehow, post-Ice Age changes (north rising, south sinking) going on for c.10 000 years can be reversed to save coastal towns. The process of isostacy has been known since the late 19th century. Maybe people could have considered building these houses in the first place?
Scaremongering! Why is it that most of these emotional subjects are championed by women with no facts? I never see a male giving facts, it's normally just women with no evidence. Non Story! The coast has been eroded for thousands of years, just look at old maps. It may be that it is happening more frequently, and is photographed by mobile phones, which did not happen 20 years ago.
if the people living in these areas want to band together and get these issues sorted there should be no council roadblocks to them doing so. Taxing everyone more to get the government to come in and overpay for this work is a crappy solution. The government is the problem, not the solution.

a large number of these properties were nowhere near the coast 30 years ago
