This reminds me of when i made a visit to my father's house exactly a year ago in Togo. Unfortunately he did not finish the house before he passed away in his late 20s having lived all his life in Ghana. I am now in my mid 30s and the only wish i have is to honour his memory by finishing the house. This vlog has stirred up memories and emotions. Thanks Anna.

It's not about what's most comfortable or convenient to do but about honouring the memory of your grandma which itself is a blessing that will remain with you for life. May her soul rest in peace. I miss mine. I remember watching Wode Maya meet up with a Togolese lady in his Lome travel episode. She was absolutely lovely and full of life. You should locate her before you leave. Journey safely.

Have you found Togo influencers or content creators to show you around? If you have not I will send you some links of 2 that recorded contents with Wode Maya in Togo; they speak english.

Usually when old people die in Africa (more particularly the part of Nigeria where I come from) what is done is celebration of life, so it's usually not sober or sad, most times people don't even wear all black, they wear colour attires with the inscription "adieu papa or adieu mama" if the person is old and has grand kids or even great grand kids it's a celebration with food and music. Celebrating the fact the person lived long and saw his or her children and grandchildren. "Burial rice", (which is simply jollof rice prepared for the burial) is even a thing in Nigeria🤣

Your melanin is popping so much in Togo. Pretty house, your Dad is so down to earth ooo. Da wey he go put dat luggage on that Mama's head was heartwarming. Lome must be hot, the fans n Daddy in towel says much about the temperature while we go freeze in Netherlands. Rest in power Grandma. She fought a good fight, finished the race & kept the faith -2nd Timothy 4:7. If you give birth again name the kid after her whether boy or gal.

Pleased you made it to Togo🙏🏾. Thank God for that. May your beautiful grandma rest in perfect peace. Most of the footage reminded me of my visit to dad’s village ( dad being the chauffeur 😀) in the Eastern region also my grandma’s funeral at Volta region ( my maternal side). Same wake keeping with Agbadza dance all night😊. Mosquitoes were all over. In fact, we didn’t sleep till Saturday night after the burial. Our beautiful culture and tradition is admirable. Stay safe.

  • @yogsfrancis2805

Anna you look just like your dad! I am so happy you got to attend your grandma's funeral, it was truly a pilgrimage for you. I know she is happy that you were able to attend. Your dad is in his own world and time is not a factor for him. Maybe that is God's way of saying, be in the moment and take a breather. I live in the United States and feel like I never have time for anything, there is always something to do or somewhere to go. Honestly, I could do the village life right now, even without our amenities we are so used to in the West. I love the simple life and the idea of doing nothing. Although, I may complain a bit in the beginning, I would learn to adapt like everyone else. God bless!

My older brother did a DNA test) I've never been to Ghana or any other African country actually but I have been to Amsterdam for a convention in the 90's and I loved it. But I would like to learn more about my ancestry... maybe one day 🙂
