From all the research and all the talks I've had with Pioneer and Crutchfield about the AVH-X8500BSH this would be the absolute best radio to buy for all android users so needless to say i already bought it..it having an HDMI input in the back makes it a true winner among all competition. For anyone out there looking at this radio for it's cool app features you MUST consider buying the ARLiberator from the Google play store!! a MUST HAVE!! WORTH THE $
Just added the 5500 to my 97 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC. Gotta love the fact the car is 100% current again on available options....except for maybe side curtain airbags...but who needs those, it's a Lincoln! Works great with my iPhone 5S.
as long as you buy the dash kit and the wiring kit you are fine, if you have steering wheel controls there is another part from pioneer you have to buy if want the steering wheel controls to work
it is the auto mic eq just like you get on the pioneer elite home stereos you plug a pioneer mic in and put it in a seat and it will calibrate your setup to that listening position
I believe that aux looking input behind the screen is for Pioneer's setup microphone similar to home theater setup mics. You will use it to initially set up the surround sound. The aux is in the back.
ARLiberator app is basically an app that allows you to mirror your phone on the HU and allows you to control it if you set it up right. items: -8500BHS or the SPH-DA100 for the cheaper route -An Appradio Android kit CDAH200C (from amazon) and the S3- also needs another converter for their special 5 to 11 pin converter- EPL-FU10BEBSTD also found on amazon -An HDMI cord -Having root access to your phone -some software modifications which can be found on the appradio forum website -ARLiberator app
Ebay, the cables depend on the the phone you have, bluetooh is built into the radio no add ons needed, if you want navigation thru your iphone you would need to purchase the one that works with the radio and the phone for like 3 dollars
I just had my unit installed yesterday and its amazing, i got Sirius installed properly(warning if you have Sirius they will charge you a 15 dollar fee to switch over to another unit but I argued and only paid 5 bucks). The interface is clear even in the sun, my iPod syncs perfectly and the iPhone 5 is compatible and my sound system sound a lot better overall im very happy but I have yet to test out the dvd player.
yes this unit is pretty much like app radio except the regular features still have to have the app on your phone and all and yes it does have a reverse camera addition thank you please subscribe
I just got mine installed the other day and love it! The only thing is that you gotta wait for the adapter to come out for the iPhone 5 to use it with AppRadio.
actually yes it is compatible you have to buy a different cable that was released this month for it to play videos but the phone itself will do bluetooth pandora and all Thank you please subscribe
Double din means you have to spots. Like for instance if you have a stereo on top and you have a cover or storage opening under it, if you can picture another stereo there and it's a double din, meaning you can fit a lager display radio.
Yes has long has you have the right cable for App Radio (CD-IU201S). The TH-cam app is not a officialy supported apps for appradio mode. So you can't control the app from the headunit, but if you start to play a TH-cam video on your iPhone, the video and audio output will show on the Pioneer screen.
yes you need to get the 20 dollar micro bypass or you can use a toggle switch and put the parking from the radio in the middle and two grounds on each end and flip it twice
Another update. I upgraded from the X5500 to the X8500. There are more differences that even Pioneer listed. First, the radio is faster. It goes through my ipod menus a lot faster. The loading animation barely appears versus the x3500 where is appeared and spun around a few times. It goes from track to track faster and the album covers spin every time the song changes. The screens look the same quality wise, but the X8500 screen is more sensitive to touch. The hard buttons are also better.
yes it is compatible with both you need to have the right usb cables to plug into the phone same one you would use on your computer will do thank you please subscribe
Ebay lookup Pioneer microbypass and its just 3 wires one to your blue/white wire one to you ground wire on the radio harnest and one to your radio ebrake green wire
I think you're talking about the SPH-DA100. That is the official AppRadio deck, in my opinion, it's worst. That deck costs 340 on Amazon, and you can get the 8500BHS right now for 500(bought mine recently). So for an extra 160, you get the following benefits: -dvd input -sd input -usb playback -motorized screen -detachable screen -HD Radio the list goes on... I'd definitely suggest the 8500 for an extra 160, you will not regret it in the long run.
it is Iphone 5 compatible but if you cannot get it working with your regular cable you should be able to use the RCA cable to Iphone and that should work
the major difference on the 8500 is detachable face which i cant see anyone using anymore because most ppl who steal will still steal without a face anywas, but no you cant use your gps but pioneer has theres that you can download a free one to work with it
as far as the screen mine is hard to see in daylight due to my vehicle has autodim on lights if you have a newer vehicle then turn ur lights off your screen should brighten right up
actually no i dont all you have to do is take the black wire put it to ground and the blue wire to your remote wire on the radio which is blue/white and your green wire to your green parkingbrake wire off of your radio and your good to go
SXV200 SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner required (sold separately) and that is really it nothing else but if your buying from a store vs online might be cheaper debating
actually all you need is the Iphone cord USB nothing special might want to check the connection on the back of your radio did you use the USB extended cable that came with yours if so try without it mine works flawlessly i did recieve my CD iu201 today in the mail and will put it in soon but its just for video on the Pioneer
Oh yeah, & the 8500 has a sd card slot plus an HDMI input as the 5500 has neither. Sorry to prove u wrong. Always check out the features before replying to a post. Thanks.
Rick, Just grounding does not work. Nor does the relay mod. You need to pulse the ground when the unit comes on. Ground it not ground it then ground it.
bring it somewhere else, best buy will not wire it in unless there is a module for the car they will not hard wire it so there is a module you need to buy to get your steering wheel adjustments i never found the need for them if you got a remote
The only difference is that you can us an SD card on the two just like the differences on the x8500bhs is really slight changes to the 5500 you would never notice. Thank you and please subscribe
Thanks! Looking to put in the Best 2013 Double DIN unit on the market right now. What are your thoughts from your testings? I hate lag and don't really care about nav but will take it if it comes with it
Your part about the parking brake simply being grounded was wrong, that's why you couldn't get it going until disconnected the wire and rehooked it a few times. just read the screen that pops up on the HU. Pioneer did not make it easier, they made it harder.
Hello Rick ! Thank you so much for this easy to understand review you make my life a lot easier body ! Can you please tell me the part number/model number for the Iphone 5 Cable, Thank you !
The 8500 is better as it DOES support app mode for Android & ios! The 5500 only supports app mode for its. Pandora for android is supported on both the 5500 & 8500.
what are you talking about this radio is not got any keys hooked up to it in this video is connected to a dc inverter on my table, you cannot ground it out to work needs to have a microbypass switch you cannot use a relay,
Hey Rick, thanks for the review. If I want navi also, do you recommend getting the extra GPS device (F250) and combine it with either the X5500 or X8500 or should I get one of their players that has navi built in? (like the F40BT)
You probably have an unsupported video format. Here's a list of compatible: Divx, H.264, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV. Use format factory program to convert it to one of those formats from pcfreetime
all they come with is a usb extension then you would use your regular usb connector from your phone to connect to your radio. Thank you and please subsribe
Rick, great review...you say later its iPhone 5 compatible, but in Pioneer page say that you need a lot or cables....what do you know????.....how this radio works with iPhone apps?, for example, waze????
unfortunatly no it is not i wish it was its a pioneer app its not to bad and im sure google music will play through the reciever via bluetooth the logo there is a way to do it but havent tried it
Just got my AVH-X5500BHS installed a week ago and I LOVE IT. Pioneer did an awesome job on this unit.
From all the research and all the talks I've had with Pioneer and Crutchfield about the AVH-X8500BSH this would be the absolute best radio to buy for all android users so needless to say i already bought it..it having an HDMI input in the back makes it a true winner among all competition. you can plug it in via usb or bluetooth the usb is located in the back of the unit but gives you and extension wire to put where you wish

Thanks Rick. You got back to me before Pioneer did.

i love this radio the app radio might have a few more apps but this radio works with all the basics
yes it has a usb in the back and pioneer gives you wire extention to run about 6 feet to where you want it
Yes has long has you have the right cable for App Radio (CD-IU201S). The TH-cam app is not a officialy supported apps for appradio mode. So you can't control the app from the headunit, but if you start to play a TH-cam video on your iPhone, the video and audio output will show on the Pioneer screen.
That's correct. Had mine installed today and am able to stream Pandora (via BT on my S3).
yes you need to get the 20 dollar micro bypass or you can use a toggle switch and put the parking from the radio in the middle and two grounds on each end and flip it twice
Yes it does have a video out for LCDS
Another update. I upgraded from the X5500 to the X8500. There are more differences that even Pioneer listed. First, the radio is faster. It goes through my ipod menus a lot faster. yes as long as you have the proper cable
Yes its at the top of the link
thank you and please subscribe
Ebay lookup Pioneer microbypass and its just 3 wires one to your blue/white wire one to you ground wire on the radio harnest and one to your radio ebrake green wire

well the it depends if your big on the sd card reader if your not get the x5500 the p8400 is last years model
I agree. The screen is bad in the day light. I'm going to add a sun shade to mine.
it is Iphone 5 compatible but if you cannot get it working with your regular cable you should be able to use the RCA cable to Iphone and that should work
you can hook it up to a switch instead of using any positive wires u just simply use the ground wire due to the fact that it has to be grounded twice
Just got this installed today and I love it!!!
the major difference on the 8500 is detachable face which i cant see anyone using anymore because most ppl who steal will still steal without a face anywas, but no you cant use your gps but pioneer has theres that you can download a free one to work with it

ARLiberator is an app you put on your android phone. Only HU's that hook up to android via HDMI are Appradio2 or the x8500.
That's a really big difference in comparison. From a $380 deck(On Amazon) to a $1200. It depends on your taste.
As long as it is a Double Din unit yes it will
Thank you please subscribe
actually no i dont all you have to do is take the black wire put it to ground and the blue wire to your remote wire on the radio which is blue/white and your green wire to your green parkingbrake wire off of your radio and your good to go
Both Generations Use same Software settings Iphone 5 and Touch 5 Touch was out first and was adapted to the Iphone
No you have to buy a GPS for the Unit or just buy a navigation unit
Great looking H/U, and great video! thumbs up!
Its in the Comments said you need the micro bypass or Use a switch
I just got this, found out you cant open up the "apps" on the main screen with my HTC One (or any android). I'm Pissed!
all i can say is that you have to play with it till you get it the way you like it
i dont know what you mean by bum bum and signal as to your antenna well did you get the right antenna adapter for your vehicle
hope you like it
DVD player works great did you have the micro bypass switch installed to have the DVD play while driving
SXV200 SiriusXM Connect Vehicle Tuner required (sold separately)
and that is really it nothing else but if your buying from a store vs online might be cheaper debating
actually all you need is the Iphone cord USB nothing special might want to check the connection on the back of your radio did you use the USB extended cable that came with yours if so try without it mine works flawlessly i did recieve my CD iu201 today in the mail and will put it in soon but its just for video on the Pioneer

depends on where you buy it online or in a store i believe retail is 700 but online like 250 +
Please subscribe thank you and have a great day
if you have a double din radio yes you can if you dont you would have to modify the dash
i did double tap the ground trust me i found out when i installed it
Thank you and please subscribe
if you buy the correct cable yes
Rick,
Just grounding does not work. Nor does the relay mod. You need to pulse the ground when the unit comes on. Ground it not ground it then ground it.
That is Auto EQ mic on the 8500 theres also a SD card reader
Thank you please subscribe
I like the way you breathe into your camera :))
I would try to reinstall the app I and don't use the allow setting when it wants to open the app by itself and yes it does work on bluetooth
Yes you are supposed to be able to but i do not know the requirments
built in and you use navi from your Iphone if you have one there is a free version
Yes you need to have a usb connector for the 2 devices to interchange
Thank you and please subscribe
well if you have an IPHONE you can use a navigation that is free but if you dont you have to buy an add on part.
Thank you and please subcribe
great this made my made up and I bit the bullet and have one on order. great clip and thankyou
cd iu201s, Yes the Radio Has App Radio but you will need the Microbypass switch
that i havent tried im sure it will as it plays netflix just fine from a phone and regular movies from and ipod
Yes it does
You Need The Right Cable, But they Also Have not come out with the firmware update for it yet..... they are supposed to release it soon though
It will allow you to use apps with your IPHONE and IPAD, PS not every app you get will work
im sure you need to buy an adapter as mostly made to plug into kenwood
bring it somewhere else, best buy will not wire it in unless there is a module for the car they will not hard wire it so there is a module you need to buy to get your steering wheel adjustments i never found the need for them if you got a remote
I can't wait to receive mines I ordered you can add gps with a separate add on avic u250 around $300 tho I may add it to mines
yes this month
Hey Eric Maust, look in settings then turn mute to off!
yes you can add a console to the system
X8500 is a better deck except for the resistive screen. SPH-DA100 has a much better capacitive screen. That said, I still prefer the x8500.
The only difference is that you can us an SD card on the two just like the differences on the x8500bhs is really slight changes to the 5500 you would never notice.
Thank you and please subscribe

I will see what I can do as im out of town I will make a Navy video for this
Through your phone, NO, NO, mirrorlink offically came out in feb 2013 these were released on nov 12
you will need to use the AVIC-U250 Navigation system
well if you buy the computer setup that wires into the your car computer and it has a video output then yes,
Thank you and please Subscribe
Yup i said all that in the comments
all they come with is a usb extension then you would use your regular usb connector from your phone to connect to your radio.

I think it is but the only thing that the 8400 has that the 5500 is is the sd reader but if you get the 8500 it has it
Thank you please subscribe
