Not my usual vlog, but I had to install a new chain on the chainsaw because I’ll be using it. There weren’t any good how-to videos that I could find, so I made one. No one is obligated to watch this thing 😄
I’m glad I watched! As your mom I have an interest in your safety and after watching you change the chain I think I can trust in your ability to use it wisely 😁🥰
Mother? I thought maybe yall were starting your own niche group all named Ivy. All doing garden videos. 😂👍 I am kidding. I met VCG Construction's Mom yesterday. Mine would have loved my channel. She passed 18 mos. ago. I sure do miss my best friend. 🥰 Dad turns 90 soon and the old goat could not possibly care less. That's Daddy 🤣💙🙏🤗
Lady of Lake Fork yeah, that’s my mom, she watches all my silly videos. I’m sorry for your loss 😐 I’m hoping to keep mine around for as long as possible!
Kath. It’s the weirdest thing to go looking for a how-to video about the chain for my new chainsaw and the only one that explains all the things I need...was made by my sister!! You are amazing and thank you for making this video!
Ha ha I know, I was looking for a water filter for my hose a while back and I found a great review for the type that I ended up buying, and the review was from Annos about how she uses it for her fish pond 🚿😂👍
Despite using chainsaws for forty years, I've had a lot of trouble getting the tensioning such that the chain wouldn't become too loose or as happened on three occasions fly off the guide bar. I agree with the many other commentators who found this short video extremely helpful and well done. Your voice over manual images alternating with voice over video images of your doing the actual procedure is just about as good as it could get. The manual, as often happens, is full of the picky details in some respects, but offers only tiny illustrations and precious little in the way of useful explanation. I've copied the link to your video and saving for future reminders. You seem to have a gift for this kind of thing. You might check with Makita to see whether they would use your work on their official website. Really nice job thank you.
Thank You! I’ll probably be using the chainsaw less now that I’ve cut down most of the trees in the garden area. I’ll be using the shovel and rake more 😄
Thanks for this video!! I've been sharpening my chains or letting someone else put a new one on for me since I got my Makita! :) I had forgotten all the steps and it was nice to see it hands on!
Thank you so much for this video. My boyfriend had tossed the manual. Did you also notice the adjustment on the bottom of the chainsaw. Using a flathead screwdriver, you can adjust how much or how little the chainsaw oils the chain!
Muchas Gracias por el video me ayudó grandemente .mi esposo falleció el año pasado y a hora tengo que aprender hacer cosas que usual mente mi esposo hacia su video me cayó como del cielo 😊 gracias y bendiciones
How-to's on TH-cam are life savers for me so I'm glad to see you filled a void when you saw it. I have used a lot of chainsaws but never a cordless one. I would like to have one for small jobs(probably not that loud of a machine). Safe cutting!
Yeah, I didn’t want to hunt down and read the instruction manual, I just wanted to watch a video about how to do it, but couldn’t find anything. The battery powered thing isn’t as noisy as a gas chainsaw and I don’t use hearing protection when I’m using it for a short duration. Tyler even prefers it over his huskies for quick jobs, and it’s actually a decent little beast for regular work.
One of the most useful Yoube vids I have ever seen. A combination of Instruction and Saw Manual review. Excellent! I think I can fix my BORROWED saw now (chain cane off) Thank you!
Katherine Ivy The device is actually straightforward and relatively uncomplicated ONCE one understands what parts go where. I WAS able to restore my neighbor’s Makita to like new status. Wonderful help and I thank you again!
G5 thanks 😊 I had to buy another chain later and couldn’t find the one that I showed in this video and ended up getting another Oregon brand chain Part# 90PX056G. It works 😬👍
@@kathivy Thank you! This video is really well done. Chainsaws are deceptively complex and you did a great job showing the ins and outs for those of us who are new to them.
Thanks, when you purchased the unit, did it just come with just 100ml? the package only came /w that much and wondered if I need to fill it up to the rim as the instructions say for first time use (full tank capacity is 200ml)
harold hoang good question. My partner used the unit for the first time and doesn’t recall if the package also contained oil and what amount that would have been, or if he had to purchase the oil separately. I would assume that you would always want to fill oil to the level described in the instructions.
Thanks! How long did it take for you to need to replace the chain? Was it dull or did it have other problems? I would probably try to sharpen the chain if it gets dull, though I have never done that and don't know how good my sharpening would be! : ) I think it is possible to freehand it with a file, but there are jigs and other devices to improve results.
I never keep track, but it was probably about a year or two of use before the chain became dull, but I only use it for a short period of time during the summer. Yes, probably best to sharpen the chain, but I just replaced it because I was lazy and didn’t want to learn how to sharpen the old one.
Please tell me, many people in comments across internet told me one thing that is annoying with makita duc353. When you press power and u cut something, when you put it aside, after 5 seconds saw turns itself off, and you have to start it again constantly, if you are cutting something and moving cutted logs in same time. Can you start your chainsaw and put it aside to see, will it really turn itself off after 5 seconds. Why is this important for me ? - i am buying thiy chainsaw for my father. He is old and very very short tempered. If chainsaw will keep turning off after 5 seconds he will probably break it. I am very afraid he will break it cuz he has PTSD, he is war veteran. Thats why it matters to me so much. If its possible, please, can you do that test ?
@Jure Macola the chainsaw does shut itself off if not used after just a few seconds, and then you have to press the button again so that it will run, and you have to be careful to press the button correctly or it won’t work. This has been frustrating to me and I’ve had to remind myself that it is a safety feature of the saw. This feature could be terribly frustrating for someone with limited patience. I have another video briefly demonstrating use of the chainsaw th-cam.com/video/fpfCc_iclyw/w-d-xo.html almost five minutes into that video. I love the chainsaw, but it may not be for everyone.
@@kathivy you know the old people, its hard to change them. Thank you for finding some spare time for me. I appreciate your effort a lot. Wish you all the best
Niko Neko I’m using a bar & chain oil from Stihl. Some say that you should use an oil like this specifically made for chainsaws and not regular motor which doesn’t have the additive that makes it sticky, but I don’t have the expertise to answer that question. Here’s a link to an article that discusses the issue: www.thespruce.com/using-regular-motor-oil-chainsaw-bar-1342724
Hello, I haven't ever changed a sprocket, but I just added a link in the video description to the Makita chainsaw instruction manual and on Page 16 there is information about how to change the sprocket. Hope that this helps 😊
That’s still last week’s video. I’m making the new one tomorrow. Maybe the confusion is that I just received a few new comments on this video, so it popped up in your notifications?

I would be interested to see you work with it. I didn't know that they made those. I went from electric with a cord to gas .
Plus...it is a very good video. And I know that you are smart enough to know how you can make it better. So I will keep my trap shut. 😁👍💙🤗🙏
Lady of Lake Fork I will, in the next video 👍
Hi , which oil i can use , sae 30 is ok?
Niko Neko they say that you should use a bar & saw chain oil and not motor oil, but I’m not an expert when it comes to chainsaw lubrication.
I’m glad I watched! As your mom I have an interest in your safety and after watching you change the chain I think I can trust in your ability to use it wisely 😁🥰

Helpful video. Like the way you intercut it with images from manual!

Excellent video, helped me immensely to change the chain on my maquita chainsaw. Couldn't have done it without this video to show me how.
Great, so glad that it helped 😀👍
Thanks for this Katherine. I just got a new one and this gives me a much better idea of how to put it together. Great job.
Val W thanks. It’s a super nice tool. I’ve never used a gas-powered chainsaw because they’re SCARY!

You can use cooking oil for chain lube. Just fill the tank regularly
