    As always another quality video, being in Nz the shipping kills me down here, but that looks like the kit I need, that’s for the content, I always enjoy 👏

      @CarsBikesandCoffee hey bud, quick question, can I zinc plate my bolts and then let's say a few weeks later yellow chromate them or does it all have to be done the same day?

    • @CarsBikesandCoffee
      @CarsBikesandCoffee  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Always best to do it while you’re in the process. I tried it sort of like that, it was a few days later, cleaned it again, acid etch, and then chromate it worked, little more work though.

    Great Video. Really enjoyed it. I see just how critical controlling the AMPs is now to getting a good result. Caswell is supper expensive for what you get. The Degreaser (Sodium Tetraborate Decahydrate) is Borax and the Brighter is just Karo syrup. That said the Yellow Chromate mix seems to be nicely proportioned for the purpose if you don't want to mix it yourself.

      Thank you! Appreciate you watching!🤘🏻 yeah, you could totally diy, I tried it as I mentioned, but it was a little frustrating.

    • @tosh9521
      @tosh9521 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caswell is not selling Karo syrup. The brightener is clear, like water. Not sure what their degreaser is, but I don’t use it. Where did you get the info that it’s borax?
      I stopped trying to calculate amperage. I found a shop that will plate my parts if I do the prep. I asked if they calculate amperage and they laughed. They also don’t use brightener. Dip in blue, then go to yellow. I do that now.
      As with anything the prep is key…. the brightener the parts are when they go in, the brightener they are when they come out. I’ll do small parts if I forget to drop something off or don’t have enough to drop off.

    • @davidharris733
      @davidharris733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The brightener will be something decanted from a proprietary additive. It will probably contain sodium dodecyl sulphate, thiourea, and saccharine.

    Awesome video, i have a few datsuns and although plating is fairly cheap in my local its annoying as i have to dissassemble so much at a time to do a batch, i have the toom in my garagea to keep this set up so would be great to be able to just to partds as i need them. i have a feeling it would get quite addictive! hah

    Oh, and you're not kidding about using muriatic acid in a shop environment. It can rust everything in the shop overnight. It can be a real disaster - heads up people!

    Hey Curt - great video as usual!! Appears you hit a bump in the 260Z project. Is it going to start back up again? Great content - I've watched your L series engine builds numerous times. I'm getting close to that point in my build

    Do you have instructions on prepping the yellow chromate? Do you buy it ready to go or is it mixed/diluted?

      I use Caswell’s solution which you mix. I highly recommend their book/manual you can buy, very helpful.

      Haven’t touched the 260z in a while, hopefully soon. Been messing with the ZX and will have a video soon on that. Life and all that kind of got in the way.

    Great vid but one thing to note. If using a wire brush to clean parts it should be made of the same metal as the part you are cleaning as you can get friction transfer that can compromise plating

    • @CarsBikesandCoffee
      @CarsBikesandCoffee  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I was always under the belief of using a softer metal brush than the part and you would be okay, hence the brass. I’ll have to revisit, thanks for the info

    • @davidharris733
      @davidharris733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point. Your steel part will get a loosely adherent coating of brass. Us a stainless steel wire brush.

    I bought the same kit 4 years ago and powered it with D cell batteries. It was a little more challenging. Do you have info on the power supply that you are using?

      @Cars, Bikes, and Coffee just a bit hard to watch for bubbles. so fine tuning is sort of a pain... I've used it for 2 days ALL day and it hasn't cleared 😪

    • @CarsBikesandCoffee
      @CarsBikesandCoffee  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you using a bubbler? If so is it aerating the solution with tiny bubbles? Also, sitting overnight, I assume still milky? Worst case, I would give them a call

    1:36 if you sandblast the parts they will never have the original gloss finish, will be dull and abraded looking unless to buff it.

    • @CarsBikesandCoffee
      @CarsBikesandCoffee  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very good point, thought I made a comment about that. But yes, if you want a matte plate sandblast, if you want that gloss, I brass wire wheel it.

    Why must your generation constantly flap your wings about as if you are a spasmodic albatross attempting lift-off? I am sure you’ve never taken a public speaking course? If you had, you’d certainly have learned that it’s very easy to annoy/turn-off your audience, so that, no matter how good your content, the distractions make them tune out. So is the case with you.
