Back in the day, I used my King Duo Gravis (6B) for everything (orchestral, studio, pits, jazz) as a bass trombonist. If I had to play material that pretty much something a tenor trombone would play, I used an Olds Recording (all genres). When I had to cover the whole gambit (high and low) I used a King 4B.
Out of curiosity, you have any examples of basses that you feel do have that orchestral sound? I say that under the impression that the 42T is a tenor, right?
