RESTORING AN OLD GOLD MINE!

- Join Buck Chancey, from QAM, on a 3000km round trip to Canada. We visit a long-lost gold mine currently being restored by two dedicated Canadians. The mine we venture to today is The Yankee Boy mine. Last worked in 1936 and with the first workings dating back to the year 1900. The mine is owned by TH-camr personalities Frank & Sharon, of EAM fame. Earliest productive years of the Yankee Boy appear to be around 1905, with the last productive year being 1936. Here is the rundown on the Yankee Boy vein structure (vein, not mine) excerpt from a USGS report…
The Yankee Boy vein was discovered about 1911 and explored by a 136-foot adit and 4 open cuts (Redman and others, 1989). The Yankee Boy deposit consists of a single quartz vein in Jualin Diorite that is traceable for 3,000 feet northwest from the Yankee adit. The vein strikes N41W and dips steeply south. The thickness varies from a few inches to five feet and averages two feet. Roehm (1938) describes the vein as banded quartz with a darker, bluish core. The outer bands are nearly barren of sulfides and vary from milky white to glassy. Sulfide minerals are confined mainly to the central bluish band, which varies in width from a few inches to 18 inches but averages less than 12 inches. Pyrite and a little arsenopyrite are the only sulfides in the vein. The vein represents two generations of quartz: a milky white to glassy rim, and grayish blue core (Roehm, 1938). Roehm reports that samples of the vein contained up to 1.6 ounces of gold per ton and 1.0 ounce of silver per ton. In 1988, Curator International Resources Ltd. collected samples of the Yankee vein; one, two-foot chip sample assayed 1.35 ounces of gold per ton (Barnett, 1989).

It was fun watching someone else explore the Yankee Boy. Good job I enjoyed that! This was shot in the summer of 2023, In 2024 there are twice as many passageways that go up higher connecting two more levels!

Frank, the bulldog of abandoned mines. Been a subscriber of his, from day one. Great post QAM. It will be a sad day, when burocracy gets its way, and stops channels like yours, getting out there, and documenting important mining history.
Just as Frank said, we reckon the travel costs will probably stop us before the red tape. We have to fly to most places now as the driving distance is 10+ hours just one way. Ebenezer is on a strict diet of ramen noodles to try and minimise costs.

We did our first real mine exploring in BC about 16 years ago, so it was fantastic to get back up that way again and meet the legend himself!

Enjoyed this black hole vid immensely. Been down more than a few Oz and N.Z mines and Frank's old Canadian shit show is as good as they get. Thanks for having a red hot go with the ropes by your lonesome, not bad for a young fella. Ever get down to Tassie I would be happy to spend a coupla months with you showing the same Cu, Ag, Au, Zn and Crocoite for starters. Don't worry about the mine ghosts just know that the walls have ears, regards Rory.

Frank is the best miner I have ever watched. Sharon is his good partner. He is such a a hard worker.
