  • Here’s a closer look at some of the details of what’s happening inside the tunnel I’m currently digging. I’ve already removed a nice variety of colorful opal.
    In this area when there’s such a variety of geological stuff going on, it’s usually a good sign that opal is around.
    I did some more digging this afternoon after I made this video and found more opal.
    Please pardon me, once again, I should’ve said “farther” and not “further”.

    I know nothing about mining but shouldn’t you be timbering all that?

      Do you mean adding supports? If so, no additional support is necessary for tunnels of this width in this area. The sandstone and clay here are very stable. Of course I’m careful to have arched ceilings and keep my eyes open.
      In other areas, such as Lightning Ridge, the ground is not so stable and lots of additional support is necessary.
