You have a beautiful collection of cars. I admire your collection. Honda was the first car company to come out with the 4ws it changed the game. Please keep that beautiful car in you collection
This brings back great memories for me. I was the original owner of a 1988 si red prelude, automatic without 4ws. I paid $17,500 sticker price. Then $500 to have it pinstriped. Drove it constantly for 17 years. My interior was minty (because I am like Felix Unger,)but it had lots of body rot (it looked like a ghetto blaster). The harsh NY winters took their toll on it. I cried when I had to get rid of it. It's the most fun car I've ever driven. And omg those seats where the most comfortable ever. I really wish they would bring back the prelude. If they did I'd run right out and buy it.
I love these 88+ Preludes. One of the first Honda I owned was a red 88 Prelude SI…I painted it civic SI blue put wheels on it fog lamps and exhaust. Such a good handling car…interiors hold up good. Awesome video!
I personally think that this was the best looking Prelude generation. Mainly because of the pop up head lights! Please keep taking care of this car Tyson!
My Honda has black powered mirrors from the factory. I’m trying to locate a black drivers side oem mirror. The one on the car has some wear on it. But it’s still in pretty good condition. I would love to upgrade that at some point. It was something that was only on the 1990 Honda Accord LX. The rest of the years of that body style had body colored powered mirrors.
The third generation Prelude is my favorite!!! And one of my favorite cars of all time. I loved the big “greenhouse “ windows, and the low sleek hood. I always still have my folder of CDs!! Haha. I remember burning CDs on the desktop computer!!! Haha 😂. Born in the 70s, grew up in the 80s high school in the 90s
I’ve been waiting for this video to drop, and it didn’t disappoint! The 3rd gen Prelude is one of my favorite Honda models, and the fact that you found a 4WS in that good of condition is like coming across a unicorn (especially since it came from a snow belt state). Absolutely loved this video (the 80’s synth music at the end was spot-on, too). I’ve enjoyed watching all your videos over the years, but this one is the current pole position holder for my favorite. Rock on!
I bought an ’88 AWS Prelude Si with 112k miles on it and put another 100k miles on it, never needing anything beyond replacing the timing belt and brake pads. Absolutely phenomenal reliability other than a rare tendency to not restart for a few minutes if still hot. I shoehorned some 225 width Falken tires onto those 14″ rims and owned all the twisty roads, off ramps and on ramps. Fun Mustang anecdote: I was exiting at high speed from Interstate 4 in Orlando on a decreasing radius 270 degree roundabout with a jackass Mustang GT hot on my bumper for no justified reason. About 180 degrees into the turn I watched him in my rear view mirror slide off the road in a truly epic wave of mud as he launched sideways into the rain drenched grassy median. Funny thing was, that’s how I always drove my Prelude whether or not someone was trying to push my buttons. I’ve owned a lot of great sports cars before and after but none ever had the same level of intimate feedback for the road. If I find a nice one that isn't wildly overpriced I'll probably buy it.
So rare and super clean. Looks like it belongs in a Honda Museum. Oh wait, it is in a Honda Musem! Excellent video! great share! When does it go up for sale?
This 3rd generation Prelude and your 94 Legend Coupe are undoubtedly the two iconic cars of your collection. Thanks for sharing the throwback pictures (hilarious) which explains this latest addition. It’s the high school car that started this collection.
Wow it’s so cool to see your history and memorabilia attached to these cars!! So many fascinating pieces of history for someone into Hondas and the ‘80s!! Love it!!
Enjoyed the video! I’ve had my ‘89 Honda Prelude SI since ‘95 in High School, it was the first car I ever purchased and worked hard for it at that time. It has sat off and on for about 10 out of the last 20 yrs and I finally accomplished the H22 swap and did a full complete suspension rebuild in the summer of 2020. It’s an absolute blast to drive now!! I store it in the winter months so I can’t wait to get it back out this summer. Great video and thanks for posting… the 3rd gen community is a rare breed!
Funny you should mention the starter sound. I’ve always loved that traditional Honda sound. I’ve had quite a few Hondas in my day including 1982 Prelude and a 1983 Prelude, a couple CRXs, Accords and Civics. I now have a 2018 Accord 2.0. I love the car. Lots of power. Luxurious. But no longer the traditional Honda starter sound. A bit sad to know the unmistakable sound is gone. Thank you for your video.
Acura Man - Loved your video, you did a fantastic job bringing back that Prelude Si back to life, especially that you owned a similar one, in your early years. Your Prelude Si Brought me back wonderful memories, can you imagine driving a brand new White 1989 Honda Prelude Si to SF throught the Pacific Coast that was an "Amazing trip". Thank you for your fantastic video.
So many great memories watching this video. These Preludes had a great look, and the simplicity of them compared to today's cars is something I wish we could get back. I still remember those great cloth seats they had too. Keep up the great vids Tyson, really appreciate all of the work you put into them.
This brings back SO many memories with my '89 SI 5MT! I bought it as my first car back in '06 when i was a sophomore . I even had a AIM name of "bryanprelude" LOL. I did the same thing with the CDs too! Burnt several CDs and stored them in a hardshell case in the floorboard behind the passenger seat. I've been trying to find a clean example like this for quite a while now!
I always liked these 3rd gen Preludes. I’ve never had this generation but I had a couple 5th (final) gen’s and loved them both. I know it’s an anachronism now but I wish Honda would bring back a premium coupe (with a manual) to the lineup. A man can wish lol.
Dude, I'm still blown away how organized you are. I am .05 as systematic as you are. I always loved the 98-01 Preludes my friend bought a new one in 98 and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
This is one of the best videos i have ever seen your attention to detail is incredible the Preludes are just an amazing car getting harder and harder to find now .
Wow, what a great car and I'm super impressed with all you've done with it! I really enjoyed seeing the photos and artifacts from your past Preludes. Looking forward to seeing it soon alongside mine, which I know won't be finished to the degree yours is!
AMAZING!!! Loved seeing the Prelude in person last month. I have to not only commend you on the Prelude restoration but also how organized your photos are. I wish I was that meticulous!
My HS dream car! Honda at it's peak, absolutely beautiful. Style, form, ergonomics, clean automobile. Low beltline, spacious airy feeling. This is why I drive a '98 Odyssey the last 9 years! Not the prettiest, but extremely reliable do all the maintenance myself, excellent utility and just fun to drive. I think I will never let it go just because of that Honda start up sound! Just found your channel this morning, I have been a Honda/Acura fan since my senior year in HS '88. Looking forward to checking out your channel Sir!
Gratifying to see this and very happy for you to reconnect and enjoy it! Some FYI on the belt design. The reason behind the seat belt design was Honda's (and other companies) response to the then upcoming passive restraint mandate beginning in 1990. It was less expensive (and somewhat required) to include them in new generational (4-5 year) designs that were introduced just prior to that year. The federal government decreed a certain percentage of passenger cars would need to implement these starting in '88 and increase the next year until all cars had them by '90. Honda started implementing these in their coupes first probably due to costs since it's cheaper to install 2 sets per car than 4. That's why the '88-89 Accord coupe & Prelude received these first but not the sedans. See... you're not older than most ppl here 😉 Congratulations and best of luck with it! Hope to see it in person someday
I as always love the records, the details ,, awesome. My friend had a black 1990 Prelude in high school. I was driving my Audi 5000. We used to drive each others cars all the time and I really enjoyed that Prelude. Awesome video as always Tyson !
Finally sat down to watch this and I’ve long awaited to see this after your sneak peak on IG, but what a treat to watch! Always quite an inspiration for how you care for your Hondas! I’ll say, I can definitely confirm that the door belts are annoying to keep buckled in as you try to get in the car, as I found out on my brother’s ‘91 CRX. Quite an odd time with safety restraints at the time as my Accord has the motorized belts as well. Great content as always!
@@TysonHugie That Mulberry Red Pearl Accord is the stuff of dreams! Keeps me inspired for how I care for my Accord and as contrary to what folks think of the auto-belts, I definitely enjoy mine. You’re quite welcome and I appreciate you responding back!
This is so cool! Beautiful car and you've made it so much better. I've toyed with the idea of trying to get one of the cars my wife and I had in HS. Either an IROC Z or mid 80s Cutlass/Regal. I looked at my faded wiper arms today and thought of you...
Love it! I actually had a 2nd Gen Prelude (1986) and traded up for a new 3rd Gen in 1988. Unfortunately, they lowered the roof down and my head hit the sunroof... so I could only drive it comfortably with the sunroof open. I ended up trading it in after a year and picked up a used 1987 2nd Gen in mint shape. Not as sleek looking but so much more comfortable when your 6'2". Love those Preludes! Thanks for another great video down memory lane...
Great video as always. Beautiful car and really takes me back. My mum had a 1990 model here in the UK. Bought new, it was a base spec car with the 2 litre carb engine and no 4WS. Badged as the Prelude 2.0 EX!
Preludes were my 'jam' for a number of years: 1983 Gen 2 red; 1986 SI Blue; 1988 SI Yellow; 1991 SI Red (not the 4WS). Then, my final Lude was a blue 1992 SI. I always loved the Preludes as examples of excellent Honda old school engineering....fun to drive, and I loved the seats and large dials.
I found a 88 si for 7k CAD and been watching tons of videos on them and man I’m blown away at how clean this car is I usually have just owned 3 Acura TSX and was looking to find something diff might pull the trigger on the car
Beautiful ‘lude! I had an ‘88 2.0 XX 4ws (JDM) which was one of my favorite cars ever. I currently have an ‘89 IROC-Z that despite being the same year seems primitivenext to yours.
I see you are very particular in collecting every thing you can about your cars. Me too. Your car looks lovely in red. I'm a Mercedes SEC guy myself but I like the Gen 3 Preludes and Legends of the same period. Australian Preludes Have the Ba 6 engine in them, much more powerful than the US variant.I bought an immaculate '89 white Prelude 4ws auto a few years ago. They sure do feel weird going around corners.I gave the car to my sister and she pampers it. I'm wanting to buy an '88 Legend. You might call them Accura's in the States. Gen 3 Preludes sell for between $5000 to $15,000 aud here.
Looks great I have a excellent condition one here in Vegas just hit 265,000 miles today … any Leads on passenger fog light, oem floor mats, rear view mirror screw cover or anything else lol
I remember back in the late '80s, getting up early to watch Senna and Prost dominate F1 in their Hondas, then step outside for a brisk drive in my banana yellow 1988 Prelude SI. Not powerful, but you could enjoy all of the power on tap; and the low hoodline made me feel like I was driving a detuned race car, plus the excellent 5 speed!
Tyson just love your channel, so glad I found it. Wish I still had all my Hondas I have owned now. Only 2 at the moment. If you have any 3rd gen links that you would recommend, please share. I have a 89 Si that I want to get back to factory if possible. Just had the engine rebuilt. Thanks!
My all-time favorite car! What a great find! How do get on the list buy it when your ready to see it? It was cool to see car that age with all four wheels turning.
Hi, I’m so impressed how you maintain all that staff from prelude, I have one and is a 4WS prelude all black and some body crash mine like your..exactly in a same side, but a repair and still I have it., I love my car!!! every body ask me if I want a selle it!! Jajaja.. good video..
Awesome car Tyson…..some of those 1989 cars were ahead of their. This was one of them. I had a 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE AWD. Great year for cars. Can I ask what the original list price for this was?
@@TysonHugie thanks , wanted the Barbados yellow . But the Phoenix red with 23k miles sealed the deal for me . I bought the car in ‘91 from the orig owner.
Great video! I right now have a 91 ALB. It has 192000 on it and runs and drives good. But is a little rusty. I found a 91 4ws nearby that has 120000 miles, blown engine(rod knocking supposedly) he wants $1500 it has zero rust and a clean interior. And is an auto. The paint is bad. What do you think of the price? Wanting some opinions. Thanks man! Keep up on the prelude content! I am in indiana where it is hatd to find rust free preludes
That is what I was thinking. Hopefully the engine just needs the bottom end gone through. If not it would be sweet to b20b swap it. I am going to look at it on Monday so we Will see.
this is sooooo nice, i love this, i love them stock, trying to get my hands on one to make it brand new, one thing that irks me about these is that they just sit way too high!, they need to be like 1-2 inches lower, the space in the wheel arch just doesn't look right imo.
Even has the door for the clock. That is rare for a 3rd gen still on the road. Now I see why. Also thought black Mirror were wrong for an Si, later in the video I see why that is.
I also have a 89 prelude and currently have the original wheels to the prelude, and was wanting to get bigger chrome wheels. I was concerned about different wheels hitting the 4ws arm. Do you have any information to help me?
Nice but I like the 90 & 91. It had integrated fog lights and updated European-style rear tail lamps. I had a 90 Si. Ran it into the ground unfortunately.
God I love the 3rd gen life’s. I had 2 of them. I had the white 5spd 4WS with white stock saw blade wheels. I traded it in 2010 for a 2006 Acura TL. I miss it👍,
The door mounted seatbelts are weird. I'm not sure if the Prelude in the Canadian market had those too. At least it's not equipped with the motorized shoulder belts that came a few years later, such as, in the second generation Integra. Those were awful.
I miss my 93 green 4ws . I wish Honda would bring that green color back so I can put on type s TLX also wish TLX had 4ws but this version not the 93 version
You have a beautiful collection of cars. I admire your collection. Honda was the first car company to come out with the 4ws it changed the game. Please keep that beautiful car in you collection

Right? I guess we'll see!
what a nice car!!! thx for sharing!
Thank you!
What a beautifulllllll car!
It's a good design! Always kinda thought of it as a mini-NSX!
Your organizational skills are super impressive. You should work as a museum curator.
Maybe one day!
Beautiful ‘lude! I had an ‘88 2.0 XX 4ws (JDM) which was one of my favorite cars ever. I currently have an ‘89 IROC-Z that despite being the same year seems primitivenext to yours.
The IROCs are such cool cars from that era!
The G3 Prelude is definitely one of my favorite designs.
Take notes everyone those are stock. Recaros. These cars were shipped from Japan. Just Awesome Tyson!
They are amazing seats!
Looks great I have a excellent condition one here in Vegas just hit 265,000 miles today … any Leads on passenger fog light, oem floor mats, rear view mirror screw cover or anything else lol
Junkyards and EBay!
Haha yes, Barbados Yellow!
Thanks!
Sounds awesome! The main thing I would recommend is to get connected with some of the third-gen Prelude groups on Facebook.
My all-time favorite car! What a great find! How do get on the list buy it when your ready to see it? It was cool to see car that age with all four wheels turning.
Thanks! Driving it is a lot of fun. I think I'll keep this one a while
Great car, brings back memories.
Same here!
I had a couple of these, one of them a 91 4ws model. Lots of fun to drive and very nimble. 👍👍 way up
Right on!
I had a white manual, loved it.
Pretty sweet Tyson!
Thanks Andrew!
What a beautiful 😍 car 🚘 wish to have one like that same day really nice 👍
Thank you!
Hi, I’m so impressed how you maintain all that staff from prelude, I have one and is a 4WS prelude all black and some body crash mine like your..exactly in a same side, but a repair and still I have it., I love my car!!! every body ask me if I want a selle it!! Jajaja.. good video..
Thank you!
Awesome car Tyson…..some of those 1989 cars were ahead of their. This was one of them. I had a 1989 Pontiac 6000 STE AWD. Great year for cars. Can I ask what the original list price for this was?
Yes it was about $18k!
Looks stunning.
Thank you!
Yeah Phoenix red ! Same exact paint color for the DX Cb7 with the extremely rare all black interior … just a random thought lol beautiful car !
That's awesome. I didn't even know a CB7 could be ordered in Phoenix Red!
Just love this . I have the exact spec . Non 4Ws. Had it since college. It only has 65k miles.
People say that a lot. “Exact spec minus 4WS.” It’s not exact then :) But wow, nice low mileage!
Post some vids of that beauty.
I think for the price you can't go wrong, it's a great parts car or shell / donor
That is what I was thinking. Hopefully the engine just needs the bottom end gone through. If not it would be sweet to b20b swap it. I am going to look at it on Monday so we Will see.
Dude your really organized
Thank you
this is sooooo nice, i love this, i love them stock, trying to get my hands on one to make it brand new, one thing that irks me about these is that they just sit way too high!, they need to be like 1-2 inches lower, the space in the wheel arch just doesn't look right imo.
Thanks for watching!
I just picked up one but not 4ws locally in Phoenix too
Congrats
How would you describe the driving experience? I have been told it basically defies physics in terms of handling. 😁
@@speedfiend925 it’s very unique!!
Is that a Pioneer head unit with the dolphins??? Oh man I used have one, that’s equally nostalgic!
Back in the day, those were good graphics! Haha
Even has the door for the clock. That is rare for a 3rd gen still on the road.
Now I see why. Also thought black Mirror were wrong for an Si, later in the video I see why that is.
Right? I know! The clock door is a rare find, haha.
Beautiful Prelude. I had one of these for a short while same color 88 with 4WS. Don't miss those stupid door mounted seat belts.
Haha, I definitely agree with you on that!
Please tell me how to get a ac compressor and power steering for my 89 prelude please 😢
I got a remanufactured compressor from Autozone
@@TysonHugie can you give me part number details and how long ago was this ?
I also have a 89 prelude and currently have the original wheels to the prelude, and was wanting to get bigger chrome wheels. I was concerned about different wheels hitting the 4ws arm. Do you have any information to help me?
I’m not sure, but I’m pretty sure you could run up to 17” with no problems.
@@TysonHugie Awesome thank you.
Love it.
I knew you would! Thanks Ryan!
Classic design
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice! Does this car take you back to your youth? 👦🏻
Big time! I'm just missing the Lucky Jeans to go along with it!
She’s a beaut!
Thanks Nate!
Classic. Turns on a dime 😁
Haha it does!
I loved that Y49 with the BBS wheels. I never should have sold it :(
Haha, I loved that one too! Good ole Barbados!
Nice but I like the 90 & 91. It had integrated fog lights and updated European-style rear tail lamps. I had a 90 Si. Ran it into the ground unfortunately.
They are great cars
This car is so amazing...
Thank you, I love it.
God I love the 3rd gen life’s. I had 2 of them. I had the white 5spd 4WS with white stock saw blade wheels. I traded it in 2010 for a 2006 Acura TL. I miss it👍,
I always knew I'd be back to get another eventually!
Love from Morocco ❤
Thank you!
@@TysonHugie you're very welcome bro 👍
My EXACT high school car 😭
When did you graduate?
@@TysonHugie 2004
The door mounted seatbelts are weird. I'm not sure if the Prelude in the Canadian market had those too. At least it's not equipped with the motorized shoulder belts that came a few years later, such as, in the second generation Integra. Those were awful.
Haha yep, weird seatbelt technology back then!
What did you use to paint the door trims?
Plasti Dip
Hi Tyson,
How can we get in touch offline please?
Thanks!
My email is tysonhugie@yahoo.com
@@TysonHugie email sent.
Was this one on prelude power? You never sold it?
Incorrect, I've only had it since July. I discussed that in the video.
I miss my 93 green 4ws . I wish Honda would bring that green color back so I can put on type s TLX also wish TLX had 4ws but this version not the 93 version
Yes agreed!
