Watching this for the first time.My Grandfather drove the steam limited express train between New Plymouth and Wellington,I have his framed black & white photo standing beside the locomotive that family passed onto me.His name was Norman Patterson. He and my Grandmother lived in a Railway house in Belt Rd New Plymouth.

All that white smoke indicatesv that there is too much water in the boiler . keep it below half a glass . The white steam strips the lubrication from valves and cylinders .

The white smoke is water vapour from condensed steam. If there was too much water in the boiler you'd see indications of priming...water out funnel and driver working cylinder cocks. On a cold day you'll see more water vapour at the funnel and anywhere else steam is being exhausted...eg injectors, turbo, leaks around valve piston packing etc

1953 was the Tangiwai disaster KA949 ( i have watched the story a few times, very Sad, ) it could have been prevented! 😡 Annoying unnecessary music!! 😡The JA locomotives are truly a magnificent machine, very capable all rounder.

And also well liked among the NZGR drivers due to them having roller bearings

    Great video. Why the music??
I much prefer to be able to hear the engine working.
I dont understand why producers of steam train videos feel they have to have music.
    Tangiwai....
My mum gave up her ticket to go home, to an elderly person desperate to see her family. She never knew the lady so always wondered what happened to her.

The viewing pleasure was spoiled by this music and some unnecessary interference.

Hi John, I try to make my videos different rather than the same boring videos of shots of trains going past with no other sound or dialogue. I try to make a story out of my video hence why I have used music in some areas. Plenty of other videos on here for you to watch that contain the same three quater shots over and over again
