What a great video. Brought back many memorious of travelling from Palmerston North to Napier and Gisborne on the Fiat Rail Cars in the 60's after catching the overnight Express from Auckland
Great Video, a fabulous history of railcars in NZ, I have ridden in RM31 which is now based in pahiatua and is certified to mainline use in NZ, thanks for sharing
My first viewing of this was just now. And this video is such an entertaining and informative collection. What a taste of good feelings when amazing vision and effort comes together! This is what makes TH-cam worth tuning in to. Thanks to everyone involved!🚂🚃🛤
A lot of wonderful historic shots here, I've seen the Railcar in action near Napier on one of the Art Deco Weekends as it sped past our looped steam incorporated special hauled by a Da diesel locomotive. I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing.
Well done . The 1st time ive had a chance to site back and have a look, Great background clips also of Napier - Gisborne line . Pity Kiwi Rail is not so impressed with that line. Made a fine 2 day tour at steam pace until the damage.
I cant help wondering if hydrogen fuel cells/new sodium batteries or perhaps LiFe electric batteries and other current new tech (glass cockpits, wifi service, food n beverage, carpets etc). would enable these back into service? Nothing stopping private rail companies operating services here in NZ like they do in Japan etc. Laurie. 😅😊🎉
56:50. Gloria Welsh! We used to live next door to the them at 361 Stokes Valley Rd, Stokes Valley. Good memories thanks. Laurie Carroll. 😊

Wow... that was a great film. Always fascinating seeing The Pahiatua Railcar Society clips.
The same Spiers that lived in Stokes Valley? They were friends of my parents. Laurie. NZ. 😊

Excellent video, wish I could do similar here in the UK. Long live the railcar.
My Uncle drove them from New Plymouth to Palmerston North return
What is sad is New Zealand politicians who are vandals destroying New Zealand Rail !

The rails on the way to Napier from Palmerston north line right

Nothing wrong with a DC or a railcar
