It appears to me (expert that I am not) that their vibratos and dynamics are in perfect sync. I mean, how do people DO that??? It seems that Anna is the pacer and Elina adapts to her. Notice how Elina occasionally looks at Anna's mouth for visual cues.
I can listen to Joy Division one minute then Buddy Holly the next, flit from Motorhead to John Denver or the Dead Kennedys to the Dubliners. It's all about what moves your soul and for me one of the best pieces in a classical theme must be Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber, it's basically a choral version of Adagio For Strings, but you probably already know that 😉😍
I think metal is a natural progression of classical. Just added electrical distortion. You can’t tell me that Bach’s Tocatta and Fugue isn’t metal. That’s as hard as a guy could get in early 1700’s. Same with the intro to Carmina Burana. Metal usually features instrumentalists that are always pushing the envelope of playing and skill, advancing what can be done with the instrument. Some classical composers back in the day REQUIRED the absolute best instrumentalists in order to play the music right

I cannot believe the blend of the two voices is so good, let alone the perfect singing. They are perfectly together which makes the duet even better. The sound of them together is wonderful.
This is probably one of the most beautiful duets ever written, and I agree that these two perform it very well. I think, however, that the soprano occasionally comes through a little too strong. There is a recording available on TH-cam by two French singers, Sabine Devieilhe and Marianne Crebassa, who are even more in sync.
I have seen the brunette diva at the Met in several operas. She is otherworldly live. Sadly she is publicly standing with Putin in his abhorrent war against Ukraine. Her aggressive stance has pretty much ruined her stellar career. It saddens me, but sadly she made her bed of nails and she chose to lye in it.
I just stumbled on to this piece by accident and it brought me back to a childhood memory with my mother and I. She loved her classical music which she used to play often. Such happy times back then. My dearly departed mother passed away a year and a half ago at the age of 61. She was the other half of my heart and soul and I'm so lost without her. This music has brought me to tears again. Mum and I had an extreme life and not in a good way that's why I lost my faith in religion a long time ago but if there is such a place called heaven l hope she's there dancing with the angels and listening to this beautiful piece of music. Rest in peace my beautiful mum. No words can express the love I have for you and I hope we will be together again one day.

And this brings back a wonderful memory - of when I actually heard this piece performed nearly as flawlessly several years ago, in a tiny backcountry chapel in a tiny Maine town, by a woman and her mother, who were both from that town. The woman was home for summer vacation - from her position with the New York Opera! She was an incredible soprano, and her mother was a perfectly-matched mezzo. I hadn't expected anything like this at all, but had tears streaming down my face and was totally speechless after they concluded to thunderous applause.

I usually listen to today's pop music, although I have learned about classical music a lot in school. But this song gave me a feeling of real beauty and perfection. It is hard to describe.... it is REAL music, it is magical, smooth, overwhelming, somehow more and bigger like everyday life and struggles. Hearing these talented singers and musicians makes me feel so good. I am grateful for you. I wish I could go to the opera to hear it personally.

I first came to this duet some years ago when British Airways used a clip for their advert. The combination of these two voices I think is the most magical of all of the voice combinations and always brings a tear of joy to my eyes just to hear the genius of Delibes perfect combination.

Sabine Deveilhe and Marian Crebassa do a better version, every bit as mellifluous, not as powerful but more nuanced. Anna's and Elena's voices can be a bit piercing at times, where Sabine and Marian never overreach with too much power
