    As of October 2020, most, if not all of the units seen here have been either scrapped or moved to another property.

      Hopefully some new Class 1 freight railroads like BW, AWVR, EPRR, CMKC, ANO&SF/ETWR, NJOI, IAIS, INRD, MRL, PL, EVWR, CHAL, CNIL, or NYDM could save these units from scrap in case Dixmoor closes.

    I lowkey want to start a gofundme and a petition to restore that f40c and have it sent to the IRM, its an important piece of history and it should be restored.

    1:12 the locomotive you see that has the red stripes and a orange top at the bottom is a metra f40-c. They where built originally for milw railroad but metra bought them. They are out of service for now. The only two remaining is 611 and 614. That's a little bit about the locomotive for people who don't know. Also it has a 16 cylinder EMD 645E3B engine to power it. I learned this from the download station in a game call trainz 2019. There is some info on the metra f40c. And also from yt if you search up metra f40c

    You returned to the south suburbs of Chicago two weeks ago to get a better view of the National Railway Equipment facility in Dixmoor, Illinois. This is great drone video footage of the NRE facility. Then you went back to the west end of the Indiana Harbor Belt's yard to take some drone footage of the hump job shoving the hump. Where did you find NIRC #1. That area doesn't look familiar to me? Thank you for sharing this video with us!

      Thomas Mackowiak Thanks! NIRC 1 was at Burr Oak Yard in Blue Island.

      @@SamLovesTrains I was looking on Google Maps for the turntable at Burr Oak Yard in Blue Island, Illinois. I didn't see the turntable at first because I didn't go far enough north in Burr Oak Yard. I finally found the turntable at about 124th Street.

    Nice! Back in the day they would give you a tour and let you take pictures. I don't know if they still do that.

    I'm guessing they just decided to scrap everything onsite instead of actually asking short lines or museums if they wanted to come in and buy stuff off of them

    Sad how barely watched this NRE location is. Looks like you could just walk right in and out of there with no one ever knowing.

    So...does this count as a dead-line or scrapyard or...what?

    • @SamLovesTrains
      @SamLovesTrains  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Russell Streak They often scrap units or sell parts of them to other railroads. I’ve also seen railroads buy or lease locomotives from these places. They also do rebuilds of locomotives.
