I did the train trip from Dunedin through the Taieri Gorge to Pukerangi many years ago in the early 1990s. It was fantastic.

Now to re-introduce the connecting bus services between Wanaka and Queenstown to Pukerangi/Middlemarch.

Pulling up that line was a monumental lost tourist opportunity. Travelling to Middlemarch is nice, but MM is nowhere - if it went all the way to Queenstown, then it would have had a completely new angle. Cromwell to Queenstown would be new trackage but it beats the car and the plane

Sure would have been great if it continued to Queenstown.

I was loco crew on the final run to Pukerangi on 23 March 2020. Not that we knew then. We found out from the ODT 4weeks later, while still in lockdown. Then an official email later that day. I was one of the many laid off, having been there since 1989 as a volunteer, then an employee from 1991. The mothball and lay offs never needed to happen but for some apalling mismanagement that caused it. But they've gotten away with it.

I worked on the line in the late 80s, at Middlemarch, Ranfurly, Clyde and Cromwell.

Time they continued onto Middlemarch. Start promoting events there to time with the train running.

Interesting to watch. NZ locomotives paintwork is very nice, but look like toy engines when compared to their overseas cousins, though I am aware that gauge and topography determines size and weight. Still a nice documentary. NZ is certainly is green! Nice shades of green too!

Your mic audio is too loud, obviously a cheap mic....
And its not synced to your lip movements

Thanks for the feedback. I redubbed the first few seconds of the video, but you're right - the mic is not fully synced to lip movements. Overall my equipment is fairly cheap, but I'm not going to invest much into what is more a nice hobby.

@@trainvicar4008 Not myself being either photogenic or narcissistic, I have never included my ugly carcass covering much of the World's beauties that I have had the good fortune to visit and procure photo and video mementos of in the course of a long life. Thus it always puts me off when I encounter instances of folks with a different mentality.
I really don't understand why a person dedicated to showing an interesting tourist trap like this wouldn't just point the camera forward. A voice and/or captions overlay gives any additional info needed (and acts as copyright protection) plus completely avoids most of the sound syncing problems - save where people have given prior permission to be photographed of course. A still at the beginning or end could be added with a caption "Vote for .... " if the footage were to be used for other purposes. 🤔😱🙄
