Hi Daniel, greetings from Brazil. You have one of the best cycling channels on TH-cam. Your english is quite easy to understand. You are now part of my favorite polish stuff alongside with Agnieszka Radwanska, Robert Kubica, the movie "Ida" and Wyborowa vodka. Cheers!
You missed something. Top swing (unlike the bottom swing, it is usually universal, the cable can be routed from the bottom) means the cable is pulling the derailleur from the top. Bottom swing pulls the cable from the bottom.
Nice video, like most of them, you're really putting big effort in explaining, testing and comparing all these components, kudos for that, and that's the reason I subscribed to your channel. But, in this video you didn't properly explain the difference between top and down swing designs, and it's a shame because otherwise it's a great and educative video. Similar thing the other day when you were explaining rear derailleurs capacity and long-middle-short cages. At the end of the video I was expecting that you would suggest which cage length is for which capacity, it would nicely complete the video. These are just some constructive critics, you are really doing a great job, and keep on! :)
i don't understand the swing type information. let's say i have a direct mount front mech, and the cable comes from the bottom, i will buy a direct mount, bottom pull one, that i got. but how do i know if i need high clamp/low clamp, top swing side swing etc.. i'm confused
Features Swing action: Side Swing (-8020-D), Top Swing (-L, 8025-H and -E), Down Swing (-D). Crankset compatibility: 2. Cassette compatibility: 11. Maximum capacity: 10T. Top gear teeth: 34-38T. Cable routing: Dual-pull (-D / -H), Down-pull exclusive (-L / -E). Chain Line: 48.8 mm. Chain Stay Angle: 66-69°. Versions available FD-M8025-D: Direct Mount (braze-on): real weight: 137 g. FD-M8025-H: High clamp: real weight: 146 g. FD-M8025-L: Low clamp: real weight: 128 g. FD-M8025-E: E-Type (Low Direct Mount ): real weight: 121 g. FD-M8020-D: Direct Mount (braze-on): real weight: 134 g.
Good video but does not explain why Shimano offer two different sizes of front derailleur Acera RD-M360? What does 63 -66A or 66 - 69A actually refer to? The website does not explain. My largest chain ring has 42 teeth. Thank you.
This is very useful. I’m going to use a Problem Solver clamp to hold my front derailleur so it will move over to work with a chain set with a 51.8 chainline. I know I have to use a top pull, but does it matter what type of swing it is?
I have a dull pull deore LX (not the part supplied with the frame), but the top pull cable stopper is too close on the frame to be a good match, the cable comes out at an angle and has worn a side groove in the cable stop. Am I right in thinking the side pull design has an integrated cable stop, so I can re-route my cable and not require a cable stop on the frame. But top and bottom pulls both require the cable stopper on the frame?
alot of info there. One quick question. so my mtb frame is pretty old and the cable comes from the top. so getting a top-pull clamp-on(no bolts, uniformly thick seattube on my frame) is a safe bet?
What was your solution? I ended up buying a triple crank hollowtech ii. I'm trying to find a replacement derailleur to give more clearance for a larger tire. I wonder if the swing type means there is more space behind the seat tube. I only need mm's of space more.
Tył orginalna 105 5700 , klamkomanetka przerzutka i kaseta.
my directmount is welded on too the frame and now I dont know wich chain guide I can fit on it becouse the direkt mount and the chain guide have both this indentaiton/grove in it not like my old derailour wich had the this groove that fi into the slot on the mount. any help? cant find anything on the web about it.
I have the Shimano FD M8025 H. I think it's a downpull so the moronic mechanics have mounted the wrong derailleur. Is it possible to reverse the pulling direction?
Try to not have the icon stuff when showing something I the video, or make the outro longer so you can fit in without compromising the end of the video. and you had the camera way too close to the boxes, would be nice to see the components properly, the resolution & quality will allow you to have them further away.
And is it possible to choose a front derailleur for a 2x9 speed? I don't know maybe be is a stupid question but I have 2 wheels in the crankset and 9 speed cassette. Thanks
Hallo.. I have a question,, If my frame has 2 horizontal port on the bottom of seat tube,it's mean that i should to choise E-type FD to be installed, but could i do installed a clamp type for alternatif?
The last one is a slx Fd and this model is seriously flawed, the chain will hit the swing arms and make chain slap noises very often. It came stock with my bike, I am glad its gone, from my bike.
that was with Cluch enabled, on a fullsuspension bike, use 1x11 now, on11-46Tx36T and Mrp amg v2 chain guide, No chain slap issues. the FD was no made to work without chain slap noises, and it was no possible to mount proper chain guide if you ran dual speed at the front.
The best front derailleur is no front derailleur. I absolutely hate my FD on my mountain bike (triple crankset). My CX front derailleur is a bottom-pull with the cable running on the top of the top tube so there's a pulley to change cable direction. It constantly gets caked in mud and I lose front shifting. I don't mind it on my TT bike, friction shifting works well with front derailleurs
Pretty straightforward explanation, would be more useful though with short images of the examples - how an E-type works on a frame vs direct mount, how side-swings works installed on a frame, etc, etc. Edited: sorry, just had to wait longer in the vid. Sick!

You didn't explain the difference between top swing and down swing.
Thanks, now I don't need to watch this, I came here to find out.
You did not not explain how to tell top swing or bottom swing. You just pointed at the box. So is Low Clamp always top swing?
Didn't explain high swing and low swing unless I missed something

Very useful and easy to understand breakdown of the different types of front derailleurs.

On TS the cable comes from where?
Where can i buy the adaptor for fd-m7020 11D? Thank you

I believe that is chain stay angle, google images for that it will show you

Hi! According to Shimano website, the M7025-L is Down Pull. But from your video it's top pull. Which one is it?
Are you going to make your bike a 2 by system ?
I have a dull pull deore LX (not the part supplied with the frame), but the top pull cable stopper is too close on the frame to be a good match, the cable comes out at an angle and has worn a side groove in the cable stop. Excellent from SickBiker as always. So, my front derailleur box has labels "XC" "TR" and "AM" - I'd be curious to know what these stand for?
XC is X for cross and C for Country... Cross Country
Tr means trail bike AM is all mountain bikes, it's just saying you can use it for any of those disciplines
How about 9 speed , 10 speed , 11 speed compatibility ?
will a 9 speed triple crank fit a 10 or 11 speed triple crank ?
Q2- Dyna sys of front mech ?
good luck trying to find a triple crank of any kind these days
What was your solution? I ended up buying a triple crank hollowtech ii. I'm trying to find a replacement derailleur to give more clearance for a larger tire. I wonder if the swing type means there is more space behind the seat tube. I only need mm's of space more.
what is the shimano fd model you explained in the 3:58 ?

Trek dualsport1 2019, high clamp on model, side swing is compatible?
good tips SB!
How to tell if the derailleur you own already is a top or bottom
you have to see where is the cable that pulls the derailleur coming from, if it comes from the top the bottom or from the side
what is the problem with clamp on FD? I get the aesthetics but...
I bount Tourney fd tx800 and it got waste because the height of frame is too high.. I need High clamp but I bought Low one bcz i didn't know about it
hey, do you have a bike shop which gives you easy access to all of these products? and a great video as always!
I think he just borrowed it since he's using gloves
So I was going to get Shimano Alivio m3100 3x9 says it is front pull what is that can't find nothing on the great web
This was crazy helpful! Thank you!
thank you very much for your explanation! very useful. keep up the good work!
HOw to pick the right angle ? i see two options 63-66 and 66-69
Need to check the angle of the seat tube on your bike.
Why is 66 - 69* on the box? What is that for?
Angle of the seat tube.
Angle of the chainstay to the seat tube, actually.
what is Brazed-On Mount
Awesome explanation! Thanks a lot, Man!
Really helpful video, thank you. 👍🏼

good video. lots of good information for a device people love to hate :)
thanks, very clear, now I know which one buy for my new bike :)
thanks for this video very well explained
Vry nfrmative 🎉
Great vid. Thumbs up

There are 2x specific derailleur for 9 speed. Its either altus alivio or acera
@@notkray8468 You can have XTR., XT, SLX or Deore and use them 2 x 9, they are just not specifically designed to...
Hallo..
I have a question,,

What type FD for Mosso Falcon V
LMAO he just explained how you decide which one is suitable...
Thanks a lot for the video!!!
What it looks like, nie how it looks like :) Ale przydatne wideo. :)

Nice video!!!!
Very informative my Thank you.
Thnx helped soo much
Brilliant thanks.
Thanks a lot this very nice for me
Don't bother watching if you're interested in learning the differences in swing type.
The last one is a slx Fd and this model is seriously flawed, the chain will hit the swing arms and make chain slap noises very often. It came stock with my bike, I am glad its gone, from my bike.
suggests another issue if you have chain slap.
that was with Cluch enabled, on a fullsuspension bike, use 1x11 now, on11-46Tx36T and Mrp amg v2 chain guide, No chain slap issues.
