- Time for us to leave Italy and head for the next country... Spain 🇪🇸 We decided we would get the ferry from Rome over to Barcelona. We were a day early so we had to set up camp somewhere. We did find a gorgeous spot right on the beach, but we didn't check the weather app beforehand and ended up in a huge thunderstorm 🤦♂️😿🌧 If it hadn't been for the hailstones, we could have stayed in the tent, but after experiencing that awful hailstorm in Austria last year I wasn't willing to take any chances and took shelter in a nearby castle for a bit 😅
Also want to say sorry for not uploading or updating you guys in such a long time, we've had a lot going on these last few weeks. We are currently back home in Scotland for a wee bit, but I plan on uploading regularly again and I also want to explain how we got back to the homeland 🏴😻

We’re Dean & Nala, and we’ve been best friends since December 2018. I was actually cycling around the world when I heard Nala meowing out for me somewhere in the Bosnian mountains. With no intentions of keeping Nala, I knew i had to save the wee kitten and take her to the vet - but I was well aware of the fact that it might be a bit of a challenge considering I only had a bike. However, despite my concerns, Nala quickly climbed out of the front bag on the bike handle and straight onto my shoulder. Since then, we’ve been travelling the world together. Dean faces every challenge with the best attitude I’ve ever seen of anyone. He’s got the best personality and just endures everything with grace. He’s such a joy to watch and Nala, well she’s just the best.
You are such a good daddy - you spent all your time nursing Nala instead of putting TH-cam videos together. Kudos to you, Dean. Nala found the best dad in the word. And to think that someone just threw her away. It was actually the best thing that could have possibly happened to her. Thank you for caring for our girl. She is loved by so many.

I'm glad you and Nala are safe back North of the Boarder, what with all that's happening in the world at the moment. Maybe a van during your winter travels would be a good idea when you are not holed up for the bad weather periods in winter. Staying safe is the main thing.

@@conceptalfa Dean and Nala headed back to his home in Scotland in the van due to Dean’s knee issues and him wanting to give his knees a rest, and to have work done on the Bike. Shortly thereafter Nala got very sick but bloodwork, X-rays and scans showed no reason for sickness. Anyway of course Dean was very very concerned. But now Nala is on the mends and he’s just now had the time to upload this video. It is a few weeks or maybe a month old. I’m sure there’s more updated ones coming in the near future..
Stairs... Your ultimate nemesis, lol. I have to tell you it is SO REFRESHING to see the loyal love of a cat to her human finally brought to the forefront too. They've been so unfairly portrayed for way too long. I've had them all my life and seeing the love I am all too familiar with played out through you two? Priceless! Cat ambassadors you two. :) Good to have you both back. I think at this point even if you were to record both of you merely having lunch we'd all be pleased and reassured. I think getting another van to travel around Scotland would be fantastic, to give your knee some more rest and Nala additional time to gain her lost weight back. Hailstones, lightning & the rain - ingredients of danger. Just glad that you & Nala emerged from it safe & sound. And it's always good to check back on the family - they'll be always be concerned for their son/grandson is out there somewhere with his best friend a cat - is he safe & healthy? Nala is a happy wanderer and a very loyal guard-cat. Wonderful. (Our cats are very afraid of loud noises - unlike Nala.) Thumbs up.

I haven't seen much of you two lately, but I've missed Nala's limitless wonder for the world. Take care of yourselves please.
That's because Nala got really sick when they got home to Scotland. They don't know what it was but she was dehydrated and wasn't eating. She's on the mend now, but needs to put some weight back on, so Dean's been busy nursing her, trying to make sure she gets her liquids and stuff. You should follow them on Instagram if you are able, you get updates on there if they aren't able to post videos.

Nala is such a sweetheart. Even hitting a dog in the face,she's not very aggressive. The last time a dog came in my cats face he left with some nails stuck in his head!!

Nala loudly letting Dean know he missed her dinner by a wee bit was so cute, and her contented eye squints after was perfect. Glad you two made it thru the storm ok. Once in my youth I waited out hailstones in a sturdy lean-to I had built, used to love primitive camping like that often, even then it was unsettling, I still slept with one eye open most of the night

Hey Dean and Nala, Just thought about this when thinking of Nala's illness and googled... Giardiasis can be an important cause of diarrhea in animals and humans. However, many cats are infected without developing clinical signs or the diarrhea is treated as 'non-specific'. Giardia infections in cats are undoubtedly more common than recognized or diagnosed.
My cat has had it a couple of times and it is quite nasty. She was very sick. Wouldn't be too surprised if it was since Nala is outside most of the time. Who knows though. Just glad she is finally on the mend.

Dean you are one tough guy. I am always amazed at how you manage when the bike tour gets difficult. And Nala the protector, so cute when she went right for the dog. Put him in his place right away. It's been a while since l saw Dean and Nala. I am pleased to see they are both doing fine. It seems that storms are not ideal for camping but all is well that ends well.

That video put a smile on my face for the entire length of it and a huge guffaw when your Gran said she loved you and made that wonderful laughing sound! I loved it when Nala defended you from that Husky and then kept her tail fluffed up for so long! What a scary time going through that storm standing outside! You made my day Mr. Dean! I'm so happy that Nala is feeling better. One thing to watch out for, sometimes people put out poison for mice and it's not uncommon for it to then harm animals that eat them, like owls or cats. Hopefully Nala didn't run across a tainted mouse on one of her explorations. Hopefully it was just a touch of a stomach bug and nothing worse. Our Nala has lots of well wishes coming her way!

I see the comments and think most of the people watching this video don’t get it is not a recent one. After Italy Dean and Nala headed to Spain and then back to Scotland, where they actually are (and Nala got sick). I’m so happy Nala seems recovered now. @Micaela Panella - I only recently discovered that Dean usually posts a daily update on the Facebook stories. He might do the same on Instagram (I don't have an IG account so I don't know how that works). So, I assume these folks simply don't know where to see their daily updates.

Dean saw hail coming down, and he didn’t hesitate to grab Nala and get them both to safety. He left his bike, his tent, his passport, any money he had, he took his cat.
Stuff can be replaced, people (and pets) can’t be. Even important stuff like passports, you can get another passport, you can’t get another Nala
I was dreadfully worried about Dean and Nala and kind souls had responded to the questions I had left in the last video's comments to reassure me that they were OK and had at one point returned to Scotland. It was quite worrisome at first and then flat-out sad without Dean and Nala... SO, SO, SO glad to see this video come up on my feed...

She got very very sick and couldn't hold down any food. But after many tests and xrays and scans etc they couldn't find the cause of the illness.
Nala is eating and playing again now, so I hope she's fully recovered very soon.

Nala's best defence against a dog is her claws. All dogs fear being swiped by a cat's claw at its most sensitive part - the nose.

I just loved the video of Nala's first day in the rented van, on the way to France and England, then to Scotland the long way. Would be nice to see you both safely in another van again especially during a "too-close-for comfort-war" and winter weather conditions.

Dean and Nala went home to Dunbar to visit family after Italy because Russian war has made it impossible for them to continue on planned route. Shortly after getting home, Nala became deathly ill . It was very bad but she finally recovered. You can follow that storyline on their Instagram account. I lost sleep on this one, I was so worried. 😔

@@petesig93 I know that he mentioned in the IG posts that they weren't able to keep going because of the war activity but he was already planning on going home to see his Gran and celebrate his birthday anyway. He was home about 10 days ago and a few days later Nala became very ill. I was worried, so started checking his other social media accounts. He's been posting to IG about every day or so updating on her condition which was very bad at first. However, he posted yesterday that she's through the worst of it and getting better although she lost a lot of weight. He gives more details and pix on Instagram. 👍

Dear Nala and Dean, I was truly afraid that something terrible had happened to one or both of you. Such a prolonged absence from your TH-cam channel was very scary. A friend suggested I go to Facebook which I did just yesterday and found out the whole story about why the silence and what happened. Dean, please remember that many of us consider Nala to be our companion animal by proxy and in the future if something happens please keep us informed. Dean is very very good at keeping us informed through Instagram. Almost a post every day it two. I’m not on FB..but on IG
