I think I managed to pinpoint the vibes this game makes me feel. These devs would be right at home making a Kirby game. It's got that level of cute and whimsy.
I know we've praised the visual design and the level design of this game a ton, but can we take a moment to appreciate the sound design? The little splat splat of Astro paddling in the water is so charming, and the main game is even better!
Fun Patapon fact: There's been a successful kickstarter to make a spiritual successor by some of the creative leads from Patapon. It's called Ratatan. They have a TH-cam channel with some trailers and mid development footage.
I love that the iconic moment they picked for the God of War franchise isn't any of the raging-against-the-gods stuff (which still could have been interpreted in a cute way)--it's a nice quiet "father and son on the boat" moment, with Atreus in full "Yay, adventure!" mode. And they weren't even placed in the icy area for it. No. For once, these two get to enjoy summer!
@@Minihood31770i came to comment on this one. I have fond memories of my father testing out the PSVR with that and watching him try to lean on the side of the cage and realize it wasnt actually there.
I would absolutely support a run of the full game! What little I've seen of it was a complete delight and would love to see more. Also could be a fun one to have Carrie copilot. Having someone to reminisce with about the nostalgia could make for some very good commentary.
After so many weeks of Another Crab's Treasure, I initially thought the school of fish you dive into at the start of the level was a cloud of microplastics.
That lil safe guy couldn't have been a Sly Cooper reference, at the very least because it would be crazy if that was his reference without the iconic cane or hopping around on a spire. Like I guess it makes sense as the thief he'd be going at a safe and be sneaky that you can only see him from a distance but feels like a missed opportunity
Dan is the least punch-prone person I've seen play this. Few treat the bots with such politeness (though it's for the sake of seeing all the animations). Looking forward to tomorrow!
21:32 I think I remember playing a demo of that one. It was a cage diving simulator. Not much gameplay but very cool graphics that made you feel like you were really diving. Can't remember what it was called tho, and not sure if that's what it is, even if I could remember. But it might be.
I think Dan would really enjoy the Parappa games. Weird silly rhythm games. Not sure if they’re hard to play on TH-cam because they’ve got music, but if they are safe could be fun to explore on the channel.
9:28 As long as it isn't OoT's Water Temple, right? 13:28 I actually like the design. It's like part MP5, part G3, with some extra gubbins. 14:32 What a dorky P38... thing. 14:57 Y'know... if Senran Kagura gets mentioned, it'll probably be like that. Sony is apparently less impressed with ecchi games, even if they're actually good games. Though SK came out on a bunch of stuff, so who knows. 17:01 It did, and I have no opinion on it. I might after I finally set mine up and get games for it. 29:17 Ok, it's not a brick... but it looks weirdly aerodynamic. like someone put the top of a wing onto a PS2. 33:13 Meanwhile, it's "most direct competitor", XBOX, just always had an RJ-45 on it.
kinda miss UMD as it was a pretty decent proprietary format, and with modern compressions it would definitely still be able to fit modern games (or installers), and it would pretty much bring back collecting physical objects.
The one next to PaRappa with a guitar is representing the spinoff game _Um Jammer Lammy._ What the heck is an um jammer? I still have no idea, but she plays guitar.
I was curious if there are any of these games in camera scenes that people would want to see on this channel. I would be curious for a lot of them since I have never had a PlayStation console.
Apparently it's a common term in Japan, derived from "lab", that carries a similar but not quite the same meaning and is used in branding for a variety of different things. Legends of Localization has more info if you're curious.
Nah Knack can't be the Shrek of video games because although everyone makes fun of Shrek it's extremely beloved and any new movie would be a massive success I think a good candidate for a Shrek of video games would be something like five nights at Freddy's

"An actually appealing Funko toy that's malleable and can be dressed up as just about anything else"
Isn't that pretty much what a Nendoroid is?
The creativity of this team is very delightful, I wish there was more of it in every style of gaming.
They did a VERY great job with the sound design for this game, the frog ability noises were unbearably cute!

20:32 having the slow opening door is extremely charming here

8:50 is Concrete Genie
21:30 is a VR tech demo where you're in a shark tank underwater

8:23 That would be Concrete Genie! It's still on my wishlist to this day! 😇
The noise I made at Astro falling asleep in that beach chair
Dan, I want to see you play Astro Bot the video game.
I must say, you've saved the best for last. If you've played this game, you know.

14:37: Sheesh, that is an ANCIENT (also, the exclamation point is mis-placed) reference to a VERY bad movie.
I knew this was my favorite area; the instant I saw the glaciers.
They totally stole Nintend's Labo and didn't even use the cardboard XD

He does have the cane, it's lying on the floor. he rushes to pick it up from within the safe before hiding away.
@@magnus.magnusson ah okay, that makes sense I totally missed that
Also, Astro bot's head is made out of an old Astro Wars machine. Now that's retro.

If it makes you feel better, I had no clue about the GPS receiver either. Gaming peripherals can get absolutely wild, my goodness.
Apparently you could also get map software and use it as a straight up GPS navigation aid.
The frog robot suit sounds just like Yoshi
Gero gero. Japanese ribbits
32:03 Dan indulges his inner cat lol
Bleed through effect of spending years with Carrie!

this series is so delightful, id love to see the Actual Game :D (is it called astro bot? i never recall)
This is so cute and I really hope you play the full Astro Bot game.

nope the psp had a navigation app
21:02 isn't that the Psychonauts VR game? ÷D
Continues to be delightful!
Dan, you can't hit us with a "Knack is the Shrek of video games" without any further explanation or context! Wth are you on about 😅
It's just as well, I was incorrect. Sonic is obviously the Shrek of video games.
@@PlayFramePlus But what IS "the Shrek of X" 🤣What does this mean!?
