@@abe7109 Vibrato is a “bending” or “wobbling” of the pitch, up and down. It is done by singers and performers on many instruments. Most often it is done subtly - adding a gentle pitch movement to the sound without straying far from the written pitch. Here, it is very wide, which is something of a thing in this style. Typically this pitch bending doesn’t get notated…it’s sort of implied or assumed. Here, the pitch bend is so wide that it’s actually notated as a trill - where one toggles quickly between two different notes. 😁
I’ve been playing the soprano for about a week with about 2+ years of woodwind experience and I can not play in tune and my tone is bad but guess I can’t give up lol
@@Aciey I've played clarinet for 15 years (still do) and this year (march) I've started learning the tenor, alto and bari, which I already play nice. The soprano I just struggle to get a good sound. It takes time, just keep practicing and good luck! :)
I had the pleasure to talk with him for almost 1h in Berlin in September!!!! Olivier Franc is the main guy in France (probably the whole world) that plays Sidney Bechet's style and music and in a way I'm the one in Spain!! (as the leader and Soprano Sax player of Tropical Moon Jazz Band). He was so humble and kind with his words and my playing!!! I was so inspired by him he even invited me someday to Paris. Since he was so kind with me, I'll share the three main lessons I learned from him. 1. Bechet always blew the horn while almost growling with his throat, as if you were doing the german "Ich" sound while playing. 2. Bechet practiced for almost 4h everyday and 20 minutes were dedicated to tonguing Ravel's "Bolero" in almost every note in the soprano!!!; 3. Bechet was obsessed with rhythm and to grasp it you must know his solos in Ain't gonna give nobody none of my jelly roll (which by chance I already knew) and Muskrat ramble (work in progress). MUCH LOVE TO OLIVIER FRANC AND ALL THE BECHET LOVERS WORLDWIDE!! P.D.: The best part of this solo happens just after it was cut!! What a pity!!! Nevertheless, great transcription as always!
Stanky on alto or tenor is one thing but stanky on soprano is crazy. I played all three in high school and could never imagine getting a sound like that out of a soprano. And to get the nod of approval from Wynton makes it even cooler.
It was a rainy night in the dirty city. My coffee mug was as empty as my bank account: crime doesn't pay, but fighting it wasn't paying much either. The newspapers were dry and stale like last week's bagel. Just as I was about to call it a night, SHE showed up in my office doorway. Somehow, I knew the night was just beginning. Why do the important cases call late at night....
Hey George idk if you’ll see this but I’d really appreciate it if you could transcribe Bart Van Lier and Leo P’s solo in Gunslinging Bird from BBC Proms 2017 please and thank you
Hello. This is a message from Olivier Franc. Could you please also write my name and the title of the song summertime? The 2 next solo when you cut the video are interessant enough to be written in sheet music also. It'd be great if you write it too. Olivier will be in New York in may with me, his son. Where are you living Georges?
When your vibrato is so wide every note longer than a quarter needs a trill notation.
translation please i don't speak 🎼
@@abe7109when you wobble so much that the sheet music needs squiggly lines everywhere
no, there are some eighths in there that get trill notation

You never really hear people use the soprano sax’s middle range, but it’s beautiful.
I only use it cause i can't play above a B 😂
@@Michael-Oh I can play from low Bb to D two octaves up, but don’t ask me to even attempt altissimo.

Ah! (Wynton approces) got me :D
may be that was the whole point for him to decide to make this transcription 😂
0:42 approval of this Soprano Sax. Wow, that vibrato.
I like how theyre all just playing music together on stage and vibing together like theyre friends its really neat

Not four seconds into the solo and my wife exclaims "But, it's WINTER!"
Cool wife lol😂

There's another half of the planet enjoying Summer right now.
That’s what I love about this song, we can also play it to look forward to the next summertime 😇 🌺

Finding your comment here led me to going to your channel, and now I'm subscribed. Such great work!
Olivier Franc is also playing Bechet's actual soprano saxophone, which is crazy to think about.
that entire concert was insane wyntyon as always souned amazing, and the trombone also had multiple amazing solos
0:29 for "heh"
That vibrato technic...
I love the solo, but love also how Winton listen to this, like a kid who is listening to a grandpa who is telling a story to a fireplace
There are so many great solos from this performance in Marciac. You gotta transcribe Wynton’s breaks during “Cake Walking Babies Gone Home”

That tone is so clean and squeaky I can use it as a mirror.
Literally Sidney Bechet reborn
Can def hear Sidney Bechet in that trill
haven't seen a ton of sheet music but this concert has two videos with what has got to be rare....a "splat" and "growl"....respect

i love soprano sax so much, i wish i had the time or energy to work on it enough to sound this good
Bro beside him like, brother got soul!
This is perhaps one of my favorite things I have ever heard now, omfg. INCREDIBLE.
You see Wynton Marsalis, shaking his head in approval,,you know it's got to be good 😂😂
The best part of solo is yet to come!!
For real.
I’m a flute player but I didn’t know people can get really sassy on an instrument it’s awsome!!!!!!!
This guy always looks like hes having the time of his life, hes lucky hes found something that makes him so happy
I love that vibrato!
That is the nastiest dirtiest stankiest lowdowninthegutter, prettiest
heart-walloping delivery Ive heard in ages.
Very glad Wynton approves
I love how the other guys are just sitting there looking at each other like "You hearin' this shit?"
I wish I could explain how this sax solo makes me feel. Best way is a bit of nostalgia mixed with city detective on a rainy night
When you're so into it, you just gotta close your eyes.
amazing transcription!!!
Oh good, this again so it can get stuck in my head for a year and a half!
perfection
What a tone ❤love it
that vibrato is INSANE
Summertime is my favorite jazz piece I love all of the pieces from porgy and Bess
I LOVE this channel.
love the wynton approves part
Wow this feels like something I'd hear in a gritty detective noir style film
0:13 that was personal 😂
i am living for the (Wynton approves) notation
You had me at those squiggly line music man
Smooth as butter
Me and the boys vibin’ :
NOOOOO!! I need to hear ALL OF THAT!!!!!
That's some stank right there.
Love me some stanky sax in the morning
This is how I imagine myself when I''m in the shower

You can’t fool me, that’s a saxinet

Wynton approves 🙏
the sexiest instrument ever
The fact that I got an old spice ad when the video is titled what it is 😂

Wish we had the whole video to properly enjoy this!
sax: notice me wynton -senpai! uwu
wynton: Ah! 0:48
Mans so good he can play triplet rythms with only 2 notes
Por fin sacan este solooo, aunque veo que tiene ciertas notas diferentes a como pensaba que era, y se comieron la mejor parte .v
“Ah (Winton approves)” XD
Looks like hes desperatly trying to not poo his pants
If you could spread that on bread,
it would be extra-crunchy. Delishhhhh
I’m excited because this is actually playable😂😊
I don't know what makes a sax "stanky" , but this is a very stanky sax
0:14 Growl, muthafucka!
soprano is awesome
Pianist looks like a guy who has those missing college students in his basement.
Idk why but it makes me think of aznavour right away
Depends on which genre of music you're listening 🎧 to🤔
Beutiful
Dang... Wynton was lookin' jelly
Can we PLEASE have a PT 2?? 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Sounds better on soprano then on a clarinet 😮
The summoning ritual for Johnny Hodges failed due to the wrong sax being used, but we did get this nice recording.
They successively summoned Sidney Bechet, though...
He needs to save some vibrato for the rest of us!
Wynton is a panel of judges in one.😊
Based
His vibrato is wider than mine is on my guitar! That’s insane,
This same concert, you should transcribe (or at least listen to) Victor Goines playing Petite Fleur. It's kind of long though
Could you do white freightliner by Molly Tuttle.

Even Don Lemon likes it 😆
I thought he was about to play the mission impossible theme.
why did you leave out the intro!!! :(
Is this a reupload or a new transcription of another solo from this concert?
Either way my face is stuck in stank mode
Confessions by Tim Minchin please!

Is this saxo? Why is like this
Apart from the "Sidney Bechet" vibrato, it sounds very good
