Another excellent video Tony. I'd never seen these rock slide sheds. Amazing engineering to build this leg. Kudos to the resort for letting you on site. Scenery is awesome.
An absolutely breathtaking and extremely beautiful video. This has to be some of the most spectacular places to not only railfan but the scenery alone makes it worthwhile.
The wide angle view really shows what a feat this was to build this. And it was done twice, 100-125 years ago. Pure hard labor and will power ( and TNT) got it done.
Great scenery, haven't seen too many videos of this area. Love the narration, didn't know about the rock slides till you talked about them. Keep up the good work.
Yes, incredibly sad loss at Lytton. I have video I shot at Cisco but out of respect I want to hold off till later to post that one. I was through Lytton 4 days before the fire
Nice video, Very familiar to me, as I have been through there since the early 70s, as a assènerez both ways with CN, CP, VIA and Rocky Mountaineer and on the highway, with private car and Greyhound. I have many good memories of shooting dozens and dozens of 35mm slides along there.
About 5,6 or 7 years ago I saw a picture of a "rock" that landed on the tracks around here, right at the east entrance to one of the tunnels... The Rock was at least twice if not three times the size of the tunnel entrance.
Ya, some of the boulders that come down this face can be huge. as with other areas in the mountains as well. I have a friend who has many scary stories of such things while moving down the rails
Very enjoyable video. I'd never seen the scenery to the west or east of this place (which, as I'm sure you're aware, has been photographed a lot), but see it does flatten out quite a bit. Thanks again for posting & I'll continue to enjoy your vids.
Thanks for this excellence. In the opening scene, the treed viewpoint at Skihist Provincial Park can been seen in the middle-right side of the frame, above the CPR tracks. For me, that's one of the few places where I've done photography in this area. Your videos spark my interest to do a mainland trip in the autumn (I'm a Vancouver Islander).
Thank you. Ya, a friend who worked for CP (retired for 3 years now) calls it the bowling alley and says its known as that by other crew. But yes Ive also heard it called White canyon.
@@TonyVRailfanning that is true Tony but I'm in Lincolnshire which we call "the flat lands" what with covid & all that rubbish we've not been out & about for a while. We are heading States side in February with a cruise from Miami to Los Angeles then visit a few city's after that, booked an Amtrak from New Orleans to New York in march plus San Francisco, Nashville, Memphis & the list is still growing & I'll have my trusty DJI mini 2 to hand to try & get some great footage... 👍🎥
Thanks for posting this. I've never been out to western Canada (I've lived in the Toronto area my whole life), but frequently watch rail videos that are shot in British Columbia. Someone said that along the Thompson & Fraser Canyons, it's the CP line that is more scenic...I don't know where they thought that because in the videos & Google maps I've seen, it seems to be CN that goes through the more scenic & difficult terrain (although that's certainly different east of Kamloops - what CN goes through on the North Thompson, while still quite impressive scenery, is flat compared to what the CP goes through)....
Your welcome, Yes CP went through the Fraiser/Tompson valley first so they got the easy side CN had to work with alot more rock faces and rough areas. I shot quite a bit of video up the north Tompson with CN and I must say quite a bit of it is very scenic as well. Thats coming up in future videos.
I can imagine that even with the sheds to prevent rock slides from covering or otherwise obstructing the track that this section of the CN line still has a lot of maintenance work to keep it clear. I noticed in the opening shots what looked like barriers between the tracks and the mountain side that seemed to be there to catch small rocks and prevent them from coming onto the tracks. This track was definitely cut into the side of the mountain and there was a lot of work done to make it work.
Yes, its a slide area that keeps CN busy. There is a slide fence all the way along it as well so if it gets tripped all trains get a signal that indicates trans must use a speed that allows it to stop within half line of sight though there
Awesome shots man! Sucks that trains won't be running through there for a couple days. Wonder if they will get re routed or something? Got there at the perfect time to get some shots though!
Yes this was taken before the Lytton fire. CN is running a couple trains through the old BCR line up to prince George but intermodal wont fit through any of the tunnels so they cant.
@@TonyVRailfanning I hope the people of Lytton will be alright and I wish them the best for the future and rebuild of the town. Ah yeah that makes sense for CN to do. I guess CP will have nothing running or re routed though? Sucks I'm camping in Salmon Arm at this site right by the tracks this weekend and was hoping to catch some trains 😔
CP still retains about half of the coal traffic. The CN contract from Kamloops to Vancouver uses CP motive power the entire route. Power is not changed anywhere enroute.

Thanks Kirk, the entire CP/CN mainline though western Canada is spectacular. This spot certainly is up there for enjoyability to view

Absolutely agree, CP and CN (Grand Trunk Pacific) and the older railways before BC rail did some amazing engineering through those areas.
Awesome coverage of the bowling alley! Love how they put those slides for the rocks! Genius! It's amazing how big the trains look from above!
Thanks, pretty cool hey!
fancy seeing you here! 😁
Another GREAT video, Thank You!
Your welcome, fun place to visit
rtdg said what I was thinking about the rock slides . Wonderful video with birds atack lol. Thanks for this video
Any time! Its fun to make these and good education for viewers who cant come to see these locations in person.
Wow, slick video and nice scenery.😮
Thanks Al
Great drone work as always Tony and in such a scenic area, thank you for sharing your work :-)
Your welcome, its a unique place thats for sure
Great scenery, haven't seen too many videos of this area. Love the narration, didn't know about the rock slides till you talked about them. Keep up the good work.
Thanks James
Great vid !👍 The drone panning is so smooth.
Thank you, out of the box the settings on these drones is awful. Lots of adjustments to get it just right
Great video. I passed this on to one of the engineers I worked with in Germany. He is a model railroader as well.
Very cool! let me know what he thinks
Tony awesome drone work, viewing this sure brings back memories. Travelled the CP side many times.
Thanks Douglas
WOW spectacular video.
Glad you enjoyed it, pretty cool place
Awesome drone shots!
Thank you

I love the island Mike, My wife and kids have never been so a trip your way is in order as well.
Great vid Tony. Your best yet. Never heard of this area called the “bowling alley.” I think more commonly known as the “white canyon!”

Thank you, but you do have beautiful scenery there as well that we do t have here

Beautiful scenery, is there much of a grade in the river valley?
Thanks, Its mostly downhill all the way from Kamloops to the coast. Roughly 0.5% all the way

That looks like Kanaka Bar at the 16 minute mark.
Several of these scenes I think are the exact same locations where the film atomic train was filmed
Oh interesting, did not know that
@@TonyVRailfanning i kinda recognized it mainly since a few scenes were filmed in that area since it was filmed in canada
This was shot before CN took over the Coal transport from CP from Kamloops to Vancouver Tony?
No this was takin just a couple weeks ago so the CP coal train you see has a CN crew on board.
CP still retains about half of the coal traffic. The CN contract from Kamloops to Vancouver uses CP motive power the entire route. Power is not changed anywhere enroute.
