Between the engines and the cars how many were they all together That's a very long train

Thank you for responding. Love the drone shot you were doing. That's some beautiful country@@TonyVRailfanning

@@gordbeynon2703 thankyou!
why would a train head west with not enough power
@@gordbeynon2703 it had enough power it lost one of its mid units and that’s why it didn’t make it up the hill. It had four units on it, which normally is enough.

It’s gonna hurt if the drone ban over RRs is passed. Like 911 all over again.
@@TheRockIslandRock have not heard anything about this in Canada
Going to try and get back to Swan Landing this year. Hopefully no fires or car issues etc.
@@andrewmcarthur3843 it’s definitely worth it. I need to try filming from where the pet burial area is closer to swan sometime
Amazing to see Alberta with no snow in January.
@@KennDungate yes it certainly is in that area, snow is on the way
A 4mile long trainss with only one pusher a a mid remote engine not working is stupid
@@markverloop8890 the train is only 2 miles long and that’s typical for trains in North America
4 mile long train full of pot ash now that’s ridiculous seems like it could have been cut down into two trains.Another railroad trying to cut down on expenses.
@@markverloop8890 it’s certainly not 4miles long, Its 2miles. Not at all unusual for trains all across North America. Its simply a matter of loosing one of the 4 locomotives
Nice to see a video from my home province and and area I'm familiar with.

@@hunsbuckel55 thank you, I hope you and your family are healthy and have a great year!
I guess it’s worth it to not have enough power. Must wear out traction motors like crazy!
@@BrettGell in Canada fuel costs are very high due to taxes and is the number one cost for railroads so they only put enough power on that is required
@ when I worked for CP they had six units on the Potash unit trains!
@ may I ask how long ago that was was that still when they were using the SD40s?
Okay I have a question So you've got the lead engine in the front then you may have an engine in the middle and one at the end how do they control the other two engines the one in the middle and the one at the end is it hardwired or is it radio signal or what is it so that they can control the RPMs of those other two engines so that they're not pushing the train when they don't want it to be pushed? And like in this instance how did they get the engines in the middle and the engine on the end to go into reverse?
@@20truck they use a remote control system to control them. Those locomotives follow what the controls of the lead locomotive are doing. They can also control them separately if they need to.
A very enjoyable session if your a train nut like a lot of us.I do miss not seeing belching black smoke under a heavy load though. A nice catch and thumbs up to you Tony V for the excellent camera work!

Good evening I do believe you have some frost heaves .
@@lawrencepaulson6767 they’re definitely is some frost leaves, but remember when the camera is zoomed in so far, it makes everything look much worse than it actually is
Yes Happy New year.
@ thank you!
Would you be able to give some details on where and how you hiked up to this spot?
@@jordanschoenenberger4397 basically you park at the highway bridge over the stony creek and follow the creek along the east side all the way up. It’s better in the late spring than it is in the later part of the year because it tends to get smoky with all the forest fire smoke.
@ are you able to walk up the canyon as it gets steep into the mountains?
@ yes you stay on the high part of the canyon wall you don’t follow the creek. It is a fairly good hike up. Take you a good three hours just pace yourself. Bring some water coming back down. Of course it’s a little faster.
@@TonyVRailfanning thanks

Hey Tony did you hear about the derailment near Boston Bar? CP grain cars are in the river 😓
@@andrewmcarthur3843 yes I did thankfully no injuries. The bigger challenge is going to be repairing that area because the highway is becoming undermined as well.

Farmers have to truck their grain further as there are fewer elevators and they are further apart
@@rudolphscharfl612 unfortunately that is the reality these days with highways in place there was no need for the grain elevators to be so close together. Farmers don’t have to rely on the railways to move their grain like they did before the highways were put in.
There was a lot of wooden grain elevators in the Drumheller Valley
@@rudolphscharfl612 yes the Drumheller area is a beautiful area sadly no trains go through there anymore
