    Some things to think about:
    1. Al's full name is Ai Hoshino. Her name can either be interpreted as a field of stars (including the stars in her eyes) (Ai = Eye, Hoshino = 星野 = Star field). It can also be interpreted as "desire for love" (Ai = 愛 = Love, Hoshino = Hoshiino = 欲しいの = want). The second one is very accurate to her character considering the fact that she's spent all her life wanting to love and wanting to be loved.
    2. The rabbit costume represents lies. It's a mask for Ai to hide her true self, and it's also a play on words. Rabbits are called うさぎ (usagi) in Japanese. Lies are called 嘘 (Uso) and fraud is called 詐欺 (sagi). So, うさぎ = うそ + さぎ = 嘘 + 詐欺 = Lies and fraud.
    3. When Ai calls herself as "Maria", she is referring to Virgin Mary. (In Japanese, Mary = マリア = Maria). She does this mainly because 1. Ruby thought she had a virgin birth (lol) 2. she's supposed to be a "pure and untainted" idol.
    4. The edgy rant part is from the POV of another girl in B Komachi. The part (and whole song actually) is based off of a short novel the author wrote called "45510" which is in the POV of an anonymous member of the group.
    The novel talks much more than her jealously of Ai; it talks about how that other member was also a huge fan of Ai and had her own image of Ai she created in her head.
    She deletes both the video and blog that Ai made/wrote that showed her vulnerability because the Ai she knows is someone who is uninhibited, not dependent on anyone else, doesn't regret anything and is the strongest of all.
    That's why in the end of the edgy rant part, it says "完璧な君じゃ許さない / 誰より強い君以外は認めない" (I won't allow anything else but the perfect you / I won't acknowledge anyone other than the strongest you). This is her way of saying that Ai can only be the strongest Ai she knows of, which gives more depth to the other B Komachi characters, rather than having them just be shallow, jealous people.

    That bunny suit ai wearing has another meaning.
    In Japanese,rabbit is read as"usa”,and lie is read as "uso".
    So wearing bunny suit on stage means wearing lie suit on stage.
    If you have noticed that Ai's marks on "B komachi" is a rabbit mark, that means lies.
    And Ai appeared on stage third times without bunny suit in vedio means she dont need wearing lie on stage.
    I'm Taiwanese, if the English expression is not good please forgive me. 🙏

    • @advil9567
      @advil9567 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Youre close, Usagi is the word for bunny and uso means “lie”. Sagi also means “fraud” so the bunny costume and the word usagi are an intentional play on words

    • @lyrablack9169
      @lyrablack9169 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There's also a play on words in her name. Ai can be interpreted as "eye". Her last name is Hoshino (星野) which means field of stars, so the star being in her eye and her last name meaning field of stars is a play on words.
      The less obvious one is her name meaning "desire for love". Her first name is Ai, which can be interpreted as 愛 (love). Hoshino can be interpreted as Hoshiino = 欲しいの = want. So, her name can be interpreted as desire for love. This is pretty accurate to her character considering the fact that she's spent all her life wanting to love.

      That part (and the whole song itself) is based off of a short novel called "45510" (the password @akiko2559 was talking about) which is from the perspective of another B Komachi member.
      The novel talks much more than her jealously of Ai; it talks about how that other member was also a huge fan of Ai and had her own image of Ai she created in her head.

    I think the bunny costume represents Lies, when singing in front of fans, she wears full bunny costume while saying I love you means it is a lie, at the ending scene, she finally dropped the bunny head, and hugged aqua and ruby from behind while saying I love you means it is the truth.

    There is a mini one off side story to the manga where tht "creepy" part of the song is actually referring to the viewpoint of one of the girls in Ai's idol group.
    The feeling of jealousy tht she gets the "spotlight" and not any of them in the group. Bc she is the "ultimate idol" but the girl also realizes tht no one can b like Ai. Tht they do need her and respect her in a way tht no one can come close to her. She is THE Idol.

    Maria is an interesting term. Depending on the kanji, it could mean different things. Including Girl/woman reaching godliness or highest excellence; being authentic in love; or even girl giving love. There is also the pure holiness version that is in reference to the Virgin Mary, as well. Take your pick!

    • @asheeon
      @asheeon ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is spelled as マリア in the official music video's on-screen lyrics. So no kanji meaning to go off of I'm afraid.

    • @Juice1984
      @Juice1984 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@asheeon That is my point. By using katakana, there is ambiguity in the meaning. YOASOBI are transcribing a foreign sound into Japanese which can be interpreted in many ways. By not using kanji with rubi on top and crystallizing the meaning, it was left ambiguous intentionally.
      One of the unique aspects of Chinese and Japanese language is that even if you may not be able to pronounce the word written, one can understand its meaning based on the radicals of the kanji. In other words, there is little room for ambiguity aside from idioms.
      In most alphabetic languages, pronunciation is simplified by having each letter make a (mostly) unique sound. Sometimes words with the same spelling mean different things (homonyms) and sometimes the same sound has different meanings (homophones).

  • @jaypride1336
    @jaypride1336 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I wouldn't say that Ai's actually intelligent, maybe smart, but more like she learned to be smarter as she joined the idol life. Ai didn't know emotions like other children did, her mom left her when she was a kid and because of that she didn't have the chance to understand love and other feelings, so she basically started to adapt herself and fake it basically every single second of her life. Her whole life was built around this skill that she got, where she could know exactly what people expected from her (which is something Aqua's knows how to do as well), faking emotions to fit in, kind of. Pretty cool still!
    Wish I could've seen your reactions to the other episodes, especially episodes 6 and 7, as a manga reader I can say they just made it even better in the anime!!

    I also watched the music video after watching the first episode of the anime, and I was deeply moved. It's unfortunate that many people, without experiencing the original work or the anime, solely watch the music video based on its high view count, and as a result, they are unable to understand the content and miss out on the emotional impact, ending up with little to no reaction to the video. Please also inform those people that they are missing out on a wonderful experience of being deeply moved.
    The great thing about the English versions of all of YOASOBI's music videos is that they match the Japanese sounds, but also match the meaning. In most cases, it matches the sound of the end of the word. For some reason, in some places the English sounds like Japanese. After listening to the Japanese version several times, please listen to the English version. Please listen and compare and find out.

    I want you to know the Japanese image of Maria.
    The name Maria conjures up images of "tolerance" and "unconditional love" for the Japanese. And it is a symbol of the Mother.
    This is not a religious thing.
    It is more of a cultural thing, and Maria has been cited as a symbol in many dramas, movies, and novels that depict "tolerance" and " love".
    In a shocking scene in this cartoon, Ai said. "I still want to love you".
    This is nothing but "tolerance" and "love" for the Japanese.
    On the other hand, there is also the image of worship = Maria in Japanese otaku culture.
    Please continue to enjoy Japanese anime and J-POP.

    Song sounds so happy but the lyrics are pretty dark. Criticisms of the idol business, pointing out idols straight lie constantly and how the other girls in most groups are just window dressing to push whomever the label has deemed the star and management controls their lives.

    Ai? INTELLIGENT? Did you watch the show? XD
    She's an amazing liar, but I wouldn't say that she's "intelligent". She couldn't even remember which of her kids were which. XD

    You think this is sad??? Go back to one piece and watch enies lobby arc. They made grown men cry over a ship dying. Then go to thriller bark and learn brook's backstory.
