So let me get this straight. A HUGE Marc fan who is a vocal coach does a reaction video and gives Adam 12 points and Marc 3 points but 2 of those points are a tie. And one of the tied points she actually preferred Adam personally. So actually Marc only won 1 point.
I am breathless after watching this. Adam Lambert is just all vocal chords, technique, range and lots of talent, it is shocking he isn't more respected as a vocalist.
Adam 100% When he started on American Idol he grew so fast. He was like a duck to water. It's so easy and effortlessly for him to hit those high notes. Theres not to many that can match head to head with Adam.
Now this makes it clear... Marc is just a tribute artist on his mission to copy and sound like someone else. But Adam on the other hand is born to sing, his own style, pitch perfect, high or low.
Vashum Ace the 17th yeah.. But his own style kinda erasing queen's very first own style which is kinda bothering hearing the classic queen's song with another different style.. He should make his own band and i would like it.. But letting him sing queen's song kinda....
If you want to hear Queen's original style you have to listen to the music they did when Freddie was alive. That Queen doesn't exist without Freddie, and its remaining band members, Brian and Roger, don't want their current performances to sound like an imitation of the past.
The fight is always the same: Marc does a great imitation of Freddie and also has nice explanations for the technique. Adam doesn't bother to imitate and is a force of nature, whose energy fits Queen very well on stage. Any Queen fan who's able to jump over their shadow and enjoy Queen + Adam Lambert on stage are in for a feast for their ears. I've seen them once in Zurich a couple of years ago, and wouldn't hesitate to buy tickets again when they come back. Marc, in his live performances, sounds strained quickly - and also his imitation fades when he loses the control he obviously has in his private room.
What a load of horse manure! Seen Martel 3x live. He sounds magnificent! Seen Lambert 2x. Very over-the-top self-serving performer. Meh. And this “coach” has not even begun to discuss their technique: all she does is collect you dumberts all under the same roof!
Adam hits the higher notes spot on! Whereas Marc has to slide up into those notes. Both of them are extraordinary world class singers but Adam definitely killed Marc in those higher notes.
@@HonestVocalCoach I usually enjoy your vids Georgina, which is why I'm subbed. This time I'm not so comfortable. I think these comparisons only work if you pick the best examples for both performers. Some of the examples you picked for Marc were far from typical of the best he can do. That said, Adam also has a great voice and based on what you chose he was arguably better against some of the examples you picked for Marc. I just wish you'd showcased the best performances of both of them.
@@HonestVocalCoach lol u think u know Freddie? I bet on all my my life if Freddie has the same range as Adam at live singing he could be a much more show off than Adam ...and BTW Freddie himself said that live singing is theatrical act so who is the winner here?
@@HonestVocalCoach i prefer Adam as he's so true to his own spirit, which by a miracle is somehow the other half of Freddie's spirit... You are so right! Marc struggles so hard to reach the high notes there is no power left once he gets there, just a crash landing (8:10 is just embarrassing) and Adam easily reaches the same notes but has the ability to stay there and play around. Just in a totally different league. No wonder Marc was deeply impressed when he heard Adam with Queen.
Thanks for this vocal technique comparison using many different songs. I think you were quite fair and gave credit where due. Adam is the best in my book.
Misde Sixtysix This wasn’t a technique comparison. Technique comparison would compare various technical aspects like, passaggio, vibrato, etc. not just belting high notes.
Adam is a better singer overal. Range, ability, agility and flexibility are all with Adam. But Marc has insanly similar vocal tone to Freddie. Though he struggles with some songs, especially when it comes to high parts, fe: Who wants to live forever. So, speaking of Queen. Adam is Adam and sings like Adam, Marc on the other hand is solid Freddie repleacment, tone wise. Adam gets a lot of hate bcs Adam does not sounds like Freddie, that is unfair imo. And I am not even fan of Adam, just saying that people should appriciate originality. Freddie is dead and there will be no new Freddie, no matter how similar someone gets, so Marc as well should be respected as Marc, not as Freddie copy paste. Adam was not straining on that A4 at all though.. he added some grasp for the effect, he clearly had control over it. But yea, it was unfair comparisson due different genres.
Fair play to you saying you don't like Adam but that you do appreciate his originality. Why have someone who sounds like Freddie when they had authenticity with him and replacing him with someone who on occasion sounds like him, would be disrespecting the real Freddie. Still, it is mindboggling how some MM fans get into Queen and Adam's social media posts and start blaming them because they believe MM should be in Queen. I have been on his social media, and hardly found any nasty comments by QAL fans, so why they continue to feel the need to cause upset is beyond me. Adam, Brian, and Roger know each other 12 years now, and if they really wanted MM, they would've asked him. Apparently, Martel did part of the vocals for the BoRhap film, yet he is not listed in the title credits nor was he invited to the Oscars. You would have expected him to be there if his input was of any meaning.
All MM fans/trolls, you have to watch the Queen documentary "The Show Must Go On". Roger and Brian are pretty much saying FUCK OFF to all of you. It's very satisfying to us Adam fans. Can you now PLEASE stop trolling Adams's videos, social media, and Queen's social media to bash Adam and pimp Marc. It was VERY clear that they would NEVER tour with Marc.
When wasn't it clear that Queen would never tour with a Freddie tribute act? They started Queen + with Paul Rodgers who's completely different from Freddie but still a better vocalist than Marc.
Thank you for the video and for your honest opinion! Even though you seem to prefer Marc to Adam on the Queen songs, you still gave Adam the edge because quite simply he’s just the better vocalist. Thank you for putting to rest the endless debate of who’s technically better as a vocalist between Adam and Marc’s fans. I can understand why some would prefer Marc’s version of Queen songs over Adam’s because he sounds closer to how Freddie sounded but to me there is no comparison. Adam might look like a show off but in a live concert setting, those show offy moments were really fun and actually drew the most applause from the audience :) Adam is his own artist and he sounds wonderful with Queen. If you have the time, please check out Adam’s version of « Come to me bend to me », « Who wants to live forever » at the Isle of Wight Festival, his reinterpretation of Cher’s « Believe » and Adam’s live session of his new song « Feel Something ». Thanks again for the video, I really enjoyed it!
Remember that it's based on the clips chosen in this particular video though. It's not some kind of ultimate judgement of who's really the best. That's a matter of opinion.
@@Rosannasfriend no it is not! and besides being technically superior Adams voice just has that "it". Just that special quality of tone that separates great from mediocre.
One is a Freddie impersonator but who can only sing the ballads (and, even then, only those in mid-register) and the other is an artist in his own right who can sing the full Queen repertoire and then some. The latter also has stage presence, performance skills, personality and charisma reminiscent of the great man himself. The former has all those in cupboard-loads ……… much like a broom. I rest my case.
BS Martel is as versatile as they come and isn’t impersonating anyone. Lambert is all one note and dresses like Freddie walking around in a crown and a cape.
I had no idea the tongue thing was unusual! Another vocal coach that reacted to adam said you're supposed to keep your tongue right at the tip of your bottom teeth and to stick it out when singing high notes, any ideas why it might be different for you?
@@HonestVocalCoach He does it for a more pharyngeal resonance... and to protect his cords and avoid nodules. It also stabilizes the larynx as he's pushing so much power into his vocals with his insane lung capacity.
In his controlled (studio) environment, Martel shines. In a live setting, especially at an arena show, Lambert easily dominates, because he's a power-belter, charismatic, flamboyant, and very at home on-stage. Lambert engages the fans, but remains himself. To me, he simply fits better with Queen as the band exists today, touring. However, Martel vocally is certainly "more Mercury"than Lambert: that may be all that matters to some Queen fans. Thanks for showing us that in this video!
You got it! Queen needs someone that can hit the notes while under pressure in live setting, NOT STUDIO. You should listen to his live recorders pre idol in a live studio. Adam is from Broadway, that's why he can do those notes time and times again. He's been trained to do so.
Mireille Blacke So you saw Marc in an arena setting? LOL If you put Lambert on bare stage with no hydraulics and pyro, you will die of boredom! Seen them both.
@@papabearM3 How desperate you are. Queen have done shows with no hydraulics and pyro, and surprise, no one died of boredom, on the contrary, one them (The 2013 IHeartReadio show) had such a huge response that it actually led to realising their first (2014-15) big tour, another (the 2014 BBC New Year's Eve show)) introduced Adam to the UK with amazing success.
The tongue out is actually an attempt at the most relaxed version of open throat technique. Sounds a bit counterintuitive but the most relaxed position for the tongue to be in is slightly elevated below the midline of the mouth cavity and protruded outwards slightly
I think you need to " compare" them by using the same songs. Obviously Queen songs. Then you'll have the clearer picture of Adam's technical abilities.
@@papabearM3 You're not a musician. You couldn't even tell that Seal lowered the key of WWTLF a lot and you thought it was the best version but it was dubbed. LOL.
As an Adam Lambert fan I've had to hear Marc Martel this and Marc Martel that from Queen+Adam skeptics for several years. I can't say I was super impressed with Marc here but I'll definitely give him the benefit of the doubt, because you can't know how these clips were chosen and Adam has definitely had bad vocal days too. I do know that there's no better fit for Queen than Adam, because they don't want someone who's vocally similar to Freddie. They chose Adam for his unique showmanship and personality alongside his vocal abilities.
I've seen Adam live over 30 times both solo and with Queen and he NEVER missed a note. And definitely never sounded as bad as Marc's Another One Bites the Dust or WWTLF.
@@TheLambertLover Adam is always pitch perfect! A real powerhouse and always in perfect control. Especially when it comes to the more demanding rock stuff he totally crushes Marc Mimic. Never heard a cover as bad as Marc's at 8:10 he is just so awful in most of Queen's songs. Those 2-3 songs he does really well in his studio is all people know about though.
Thank you! I have never listened to MM sing and not, at some point, winced. Seriously winced. It's beyond me why people think he's so good. Not a Queen expert so how much he does or doesn't sound like Freddie is lost on me. Now Adam, pure joy.
Adam is the vocal beast. Marc Mimic is just so far off it's embarrassing to even compare the two and it's not just technique, Adam is just way better at everything. 12-3 in two different tests with an MM fan as ref. says it all LOL
Thank you for being honest. I know people like Marc because he sounds similar to Freddy- but him and Freddy are NOT in the same LEAGUE. It's just that baritone sound that sounds the similar, when I listen to Freddy he has more power than MARC. I suppose we should told you- Adam is known for voice Technique- I highly suggest you listen to Come bend to Brigdon at 22 for voice control for Adam- that will show HOW skilled he is and control wise- I don't think any male pop singer in his age group is close except Brendon Urie. Once you listen to that, when it comes to vocal control- you get it. Thing is, Yes Marc is known on the net, for being a copy cat, but not known outside of that. Those are facts. But, people HAVE heard of Adam Lambert. They are both good singers, but based on Vocals - Adam takes the cake- once Adam did 113 in six months- crazy now he's done at least 300 over a decade- by this point. He isn't a slouch and a known vocalist.. Marc is more a singer. I know Adam's tone is off putting for some because he is a tenor. About that Tongue technique- isn't because he can't do high notes with out it- but its just protect and project those vocals- their is another coach that reacted to his Believe performance the Kennedy Honors that explains that. Note- the singers with tongue placements have less of a vocal issue- like Aretha Franklin. Adam trained for a in year In opera. :)
I mean it's actually pretty unfair to compare Adam with any male singer if we talk about mid-upper range and quality of sound throughout the whole range. Adam has great technical prowess, indeed, but his range is naturally much more developed in the upper part I think. Just hear how easy, almost chest voice-like of the sounds he makes in his upper register. Even vocal powerhouses like David Phelps or Alfie Boe still sound like they have to put in some more power on notes like A4 or B4, but for Adam they're just like his speaking voice, flying out without much effort (even his speaking voice normally sounds high-pitched). It's really hard to find a male singer that can have that much ease on the fifth octave, while still make them sound so powerful and full as if sung entirely in chest voice like Adam.
@AKOM 20 Remember less than 600 of his so-called loyal fans were willing to pledge money to his kickstarter to make a cover album and only raised $31K. Not that Adam is a struggling artist who needs kickstarter, if he did he would probably get 600 pledges on the first day. I remember Adam fans raising over twice as much for his guitarist's kickstarter. LOL.
TheLambertLover All three of you, start saving your pennies to relocate to Vegas because that’s where Adam is going the minute May and Taylor retire. Britney Spears needs a backup singer.
The comparison here is who sings better, who has the best technique and not who imitates Freddie better. Adam has the greatest vocal range, the greatest flexibility and clarity of voice. Marc puts a lot of pressure on his voice, especially on the higher notes and it causes distortion of his voice. In other words, Marc tensions his voice to maintain similarity with FREDDIE's voice.
@@pankakesnotstellar I don't lie. It's not so different. And besides those few high notes? Doesn't make you a better singer! You become a better singer when you can interpret songs better. Adam fails. He interprets everything as pop.
Sean why have QUEEN chosen Adam to tour with them since 2011 then? And Marc is relegated to the tribute band? Marc sounds like Fred but Adam makes it his own and is also a tremendous solo artist
Adam wipes the floor with Marc- even when Adam is live and Marc is in the studio. After watching both battles it can be safely said that Adam is the far superior singer. Marc is very average live.
Despite loving Freddie's voice, when I hear Martel, I cringe. Despite being put in QE by Roger, I think that impersonating Freddie's voice when you know you go wrong after a few songs is really, really disrespecting Freddie. No wonder MM left QE suddenly.
I'm my opinion, Id rather listen to martel, but I can't lie, no questions asked is lambert better. He is easily one of the greatest singers of all time, I may have my own opinion, but it doesn't make me biased either
Yasai if that's the case why was Marc relegated to the Queen tribute band but Adam has been performing with Queen for 8 years? Theyve said they never want to sing with anyone else. Marc may technically be a good singer but he sounds exactly like Fred which I don't think the Queen guys want. Adam puts his own spin on things plus has the stage presence
@@yasaipicles6295 You're the one who has to keep dreaming because Marc will NEVER be Queen's front man. It's been 7 years of world-wide tours to RAVE reviews. They're already set up with huge world tours for the next two years and there is a documentary on QAL in 11 days. Insanity is the doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results. That's what Marc fans are, insane.
@@oliviadaly4795 I don't think Marc sounds like him naturally. His Downhere stuff and his covers of other artists don't sound like Freddie. He admits that he is a very good mimic. That's basically all he is. A tribute artist. I'm sure all artists aspire to be one of those. LOL.
Please do a same song battle for these two.... this is by far my fav video, keep watching it on repeat, thank you for uploading this and appreciating Adam lambert as the amazing singer/vocalist he is.....
It seems to me like the comparison was rather limited. It was mostly about the ability to really belt out strong high notes. Adam was indeed great at this. However, I would have liked a comparison of high notes, mid notes, low notes, different tones, different style songs, and the intangibles of phrasing and how each feels and projects the meaning of the songs. Some folks can belt out the high notes, but might not have quite as pure a tone as others. I'd leave it to the professionals to think of all the different ways that voices and performing can be compared..., but it just seems to me like this was too limited. Though yes, I have to agree, Adam can really project and belt out those high notes, he was quite impressive in those clips.
JoeTerp Exactly. A higher voice will always be more comfortable on the upper range. Adam is a leggero, Marc is a low tenor. This comparison is useless.
Actually on Digital Dream Door, they had a list of 100 Most Technically Skilled Rock Vocalists where they judged on the following criteria: Technique: Breath Support, Consistency throughout registers, Endurance, Diction Control: Register Switching, Runs, Register Blending, Pitch, Vibrato, Volume Control Power & Range: Projection, Resonance, Use of Range, Sustain Versatility: Technical Versatility, Tonal Versatility, Stylistic Versatility Adam was ranked #2. So I think if there was another comparison video that displayed categories other than Power and Range, I still think Adam would win. digitaldreamdoor.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=185
@TheLambertLover Useless study then seeing as Adam is not a rock singer. He is a pop artist, and rock has never been about technical vocals. That completely misses the point. Rock is about emotion.
people have called adam a screaming devil before. also that toung out of his mouth thing? yeah its so it dosen't tense as he's singing and it allowed freer [is that a word?] notes. (info from other vocal coach)
I saw Mark sing one song and thought he had no personality. Adam said at start he wasnt going to imitate Freddie. He like Freddie leaves it all on the stage. Great personality.
Don’t be silly, Karen. Marc is a grown man and a serious musician and not an attention-seeking child. He has fantastic stage presence! Do you feel you can do a fair comparison of them both singing Queen songs? Marc sings Queen like Freddie and Adam doesn't. Adam does the songs his way.
Really good point. Adam is trying to sing the songs in a way in which his own vocal style and tone will shine. MM is trying to nail Freddie's sound and way, and he does it exceptionally well. They are trying to accomplish different things. Like most, I prefer MM, due to how well he can sound like one of the most legendary vocalists of all time. I think it’s a great idea to do a comparison of them singing the same songs- would love to see that!
Adam Slays!
Wow, nailed it to the door and painted it perfectly. Absolutely agree!

Just in a totally different league. No wonder Marc was deeply impressed when he heard Adam with Queen.

I'm not a fan of either of them but Adam clearly has the ease in the upper belts. So amazing!
@@lararoostalu9318 You gotta be kidding! I like Paul Rodgers but he is not as good as Marc! And Marc is also a better songwriter! LOL

Sticking the tongue out isn't unusual at all, a lot of singers do it when singing high notes.

Thanks for this "battle".... It's interesting to see someone be fair in spite of heavy preference... Well done.
Adam doesn't just hit the high notes, he imbues them with emotion, so superior to MM as a full fledged performer and Adam doesn't imitate

All three of you, start saving your pennies to relocate to Vegas because that’s where Adam is going the minute May and Taylor retire.

Power & Range: Projection, Resonance, Use of Range, Sustain
Versatility: Technical Versatility, Tonal Versatility, Stylistic Versatility

Did you know that the MM fans go to EVERY Adam video, even his solo stuff, stuff from 10 years ago, his social media, Queen's social media just to bash Adam and pimp Marc? It's really pathetic. And if most people prefer Marc, why is he a struggling artist who had to resort to Kickstarter to make a covers album and less than 600 people pledged?
@@papabearM3 shitty singing techniques? you are an embarrassment!
@@papabearM3 Here you get it around the ears, however. And how was that, in our discussion two days ago. I quote you: "I assure you, I am much less emotionally involved with this whole Adam, Marc, Maylor conflict than you are!"
I wish someone would make an Adam Lambert vs. Brendon Urie video! Brendon has an INSANE range that rivals Adam’s! Brendon would probably win in this vocal battle.
Just those two would be great! However there is a Freddie Mercury v Brendon Urie v Adam Lambert vocal range battle that you could check out!
Yes, it would be interesting!
Urie's high notes are all falsetto

I think Marc tries to hard to sound like Freddie witch is his problem ever since someone probably said omg you sound like Freddie now he just runs with and tries harder an harder to sound like someone he's not
