    What a cool rifle!
    I have a Mosin Nagant M44, made in 1944, with wear showing someone carried this rifle all over the Eastern Front in WWII. I love every dent and blemish in the stock!
    But the bore is perfect and it shoots like a dream.

    There is a gazzilion Mosins gathering dust... messing with one is no big deal... Now it shoots twice as good too. If this Mosin could speak I'm sure it would be thankful for the new outfit, haircut and a gourmet meal. Living the Mosin dream.

    I found your channel through a sporterized mosin build and I am glad to see you are still true to your roots. I can tell you my sporter with a boyds stock and a rock solid mount has taken 3 deer and 1 elk in the last 3 years. Not bad for a sub $400 investment. Oh and I can plink all day at the range with milsurp ammo for next to nothing.

    All these "ugh, how dare they do that to a mosin" comments... Honestly, do whatever the hell you want to your guns so long as it means you will enjoy shooting it more, or more often. There is a freakish number of stock old mosins out there, its nice to see one done up like this now and again.

    • @BurnTheNuance
      @BurnTheNuance 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Right? Not only that but it's a Mosin for christ sake. One of the cheapest and easiest to find rifles around in pretty much any given city in any state.

    • @Wraithiss
      @Wraithiss 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My guess is, if someone is gonna put that kind of money into a mosin they probably already have 12 of them. I think its great to take an old and tired (but tried and true) piece of steel and remake into something new and exciting. Like a resto-mod on a classic muscle car.

      I personally would only do it to a 91/30 because there cheaper and more were made, now I would not modify the 1891 model hex receiver Mosin because they are hard and more expensive to get and also they are older, and a side note some early 1891 Mosins were made by Remington and it would be absolutely idiotic to cut or modify one of them.

      Who in their right mind calls a mosin a beauty? A mauser yes but a mosin is the ugly stepchild of wartime bolt guns.

    • @1IlIlII
      @1IlIlII 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mark shuler What are you talking about? The mosin nagant that we know today has been around longer than the mouser that most people call mousers, and how is it a step child of wartime bolts when it is one of the first? How is it even a war time bolt when it came out in 1891 when there was not a war 13 years before it, and 8 years after it? To me a mosin is not ugly, it is not a stepchild, or a wartime bolt.

    • @romansten9
      @romansten9 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like the looks of the Mosin. However you could buy a case of them cheap, and modify one and keep the rest original if you wanted to.

      Plenty of people like the look of mosin, when its not a beat up wartime example but a nice shiny resto with a little custom work on the stock its a very nice looking rifle. What exactly makes the Mauser that much more beautiful in your eyes?

    That is one sweet rifle, and nice shooting. Glad you used the other camera down field. Being consistent with the ammo used is the key. Farther distance; The scope is the key. When your hits drop on target an adjustment to the scope is needed. Fantastic rifle. Thanks for the video.

  • @sanfordhoffman2392

    Wow. What a beautiful and accurate rifle. You guys sure put together a nice mosin sporter. You take an old battle rifle and make something capable of comfortably using for any type of North American game. Well done. Keep up the good work. I really like watching you guys test out custom sporters for your happy customers.
    PS. It helps that you guys know what you're doing behind the rifle too. Excellent shooting.

    "let's get *behind her* and shoot a few shots lol.
    super fun
    i myself had an idea: i would LOVE a behind the scenes look, nothing staged, from developing a video idea, to the preperation (i.e. doing some handloading and such, shooting the video and then,as a seperate video the edited version like we see it all the time. i know it's much to ask, but actually thinking about it, you would "just" have to take the camera with you in the reloading room and just sit it in the corner while you talke about idea. i would be super excited about a "documentary style" video like that. and i'm positive i'm not the only one :)

    I understand why folks want to sporterize/customize a Mosin. It's fun and interesting. What I don't understand is that after all that money is spent on the parts and the work done to bring a Mosin up to modern specs, how is that better then just getting a modern gun with all the right parts to begin with? I would rather preserve the historical value of a milsurp than blow a wad of cash to make it modern when there are modern guns that work better. But as they say, different strokes for different folks.

    • @sparkpluggers2
      @sparkpluggers2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think they do it because of the price of the gun and how easy it is to find a mosin, there are millions of them and they're super cheap. Its an accurate, well designed rifle too so its easy to justify putting the aftermarket gear on it

    • @ScuffedEngineer
      @ScuffedEngineer 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they do this then your precious historical value goes up. Look at 1903s you could get them for 11 bucks, now they go for anywhere between 800 to 3000 and I know there is a priceless one

      I'm going to have to agree Odiex27 it's a waste of money. People that do this are the same reason why it's so hard to find a original Mauser or 1903 springfield. And why I'm priced out of owning one.

    "Why would anyone sporterize a mosin?"
    Well, I got mine for free. Friend didn't care for his and it needed some work. New magazine spring and firing pin and it was as reliable as ever. Already had a Hogue stock on it, already had the barrel cut down to 24", wasn't a matching numbers gun, so I decided to make it a budget deer rifle. Why not, only other rifles I have are a .22 and an AK. plus 54r is a potent cartridge for what it is.

  • @burnsboysaresoldiers

    This is by far my favorite mosin sporter that y'all have made. It reminds me of an old school biathlon rifle. I found one Mosin sporter that was a "clone" of a Mannlicher Schonauer 1903 hunting rifle. It was gorgeous and y'all should definitely try to make one.

  • @cherokid
    @cherokid 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those groups were very good. I think you were right on the flyers. At least that was my problem with my model 700. I glass bedded the action and free floated the barrel. I went thru the barrel chanel again and sanded down any potential high spots. I was told that if you could not get the barrel and stock to touch under reasonable pressure then it was free floated. The dollar bill test wasnt good enough. Anyway the second trip to the range the the rifle was putting 4 shot groups together touching with no flyers on a consistant basis. This out of a 30-06 22 inch stock remington 700 BDL made in the early 70s. Handloads were barnes TTSX 150 grain, 51 grains of H-4895, primer CCI BRC, COL. 3.218 case Winchester. I am currently working on a 30-06 build from a Yugo/mauser action made for Charles Daly, on a boyds walnut stock. I have to glass and pillar bed the stock and put in some cross bolt stock reinforcements and I will be done.

    Not bad at all. I thought that Mosin Nagant that you custom built a while back with the camo paint job was even more impressive. You shot some insane groups with factory match ammo with that one. This rifle looks like it is ready for this season's hunt though. Easy deer kill at 400 yards.

    Love your videos man, we need some more mosin. My dad is 88 this year and took his sixth Elk with his 91/30 this last season. I have the rifle now and plan to do the same. I have a few upgrades in mind but I have a few questions before I get started. You mentioned in one of your videos that you thought the mosin did well with a shorter barrel, I plan on cutting it down a bit so what barrel length/load would you recommend? I'll be using commercial ammo to start with. Also leaning toward an Arken scope. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    around 5:50 I believe you mean "precision" the definition of precise would be the ability to shoot the same spot (ei very small groups) over and over repeatedly and reliably, but then again with precision comes accuracy

    Speaking of consistency, will the gun shoot at the same point of impact with the same load and setting say after 3,6,9 and 12 months? Test the gun every 3 months with the same load and setting.

You know, people say that with these military surplus rifles and their thin barrels, there is "barrel whip" and they must be bedded a certain way with 5 lbs. of pressure pressing up on them from the end of the stock, and if you free float them you will ruin the accuracy... but if that 1 inch of stringing is what they mean by "ruining the accuracy".. well I'll take that group any day!!
