- In this video, I look at something that has come up in multiple comments on a previous video about Cubase's Chord pads - how to get the patterns from the chord pads onto a track.

would like to see more vids with the use of Cubase Chord Pads! thank you
Thank you.
Thanks guv.
Thanks for this video! I have been having trouble with this, but I honestly didn't spend all that much time trying to work it out and went onto other things. Seems like a bit of an oversight on Steinberg's part which I hope they remedy soon.
Yeah, it does seem a bit of an oversight. I'll put in a feature request, but they don't get any more weight from me than anyone else...
Thanks for this. I pretty much experienced the same. Your video is a big help in that it's affirmed what I thought. Agreed, it will be nice if patterns once applied to the pads could be drag n dropped.
Yeah, I'm going to put in a feature request for it as I think it's a knock down improvement available that would work a lot better...
See above, but yes, dragging with the selected pattern makes sense! Ridiculous that its not. It should be changed.
Arm chord track and midi track, record and CB notes the chords from the pads on the chord track. Drag chord pads to a midi track. Highlight. Open midi modifiers, choose Apache or Apache SX and arp to your heart's content. Much more powerful than the new, limited pad performance patterns.
Found a way using bome midi translator (might work with something else that can route an outgoing midi note back to cubase, virtual or by hardware).
1. Create 3 tracks: One chord track. One Midi track. One instrument track.
2. Prepare chord track with chords and patterns you want. For the chord track it does not seem to matter if auditoring track is the midi track or instrument track. Turn chord pad off.
2. Set chord track as input to the instrument track.
3. Set external midi keyboard as input to midi track and output to virtual "Bome MIDI Translator 1" and e.g. channel 8
4. Prepare Bome MIDI Translator 1 to receive midi notes on channel 8 and send to "Bome MIDI Translator 2", e.g. ch. 8. Both note on and note off)
5. Record midi notes (chord trigger notes) (on midi track) from external keyboard.
6. Turn chord pad on.
7. When playing the instrument track will now play chords including pattern. This can be recorded if wanted.
(For some reason if recording chord track it seems not to show all chords even if it is played ok).
I can't really explain why this works as "Bome MIDI translator 2" (or "any") is specified anywhere.
Are chord pad patterns included with Cubase or do you have to make your own and if so how?
They are included and you can make your own as well. Here's a few videos I've done on them - th-cam.com/video/SrwqHB4c2D4/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/f80QS05HnPs/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/WFg185AOE14/w-d-xo.html Hope they help.
Thanks@@musictechtuitionI will check those out - keep up the good work :)
Great video thanks. I have a problem with Cubase 13 - it just disappears off the screen, no shutdown or warnings. Does anybody else have this problem? I have gone back to using 12. Love the new book, going to read it cover to cover this time.
Yep. Happened more than once to me.
You're not alone in this - I've seen it a couple of times on Windows, and a few more on macOS. Some time in december I think there is a bug fix version coming, so hopefully that will help you out. And thanks for the book purchase.
I tried editing a video last night and 13 wouldn't even recognise or load it. Went back to 11 and it worked perfectly. It was a standard mp4 using H.264 codec so should have been no problem. 13 has a few bugs to work through still. Fingers crossed the bug fixes help.
@@malcolmhodgson7540 I've not seen anything relating to that sort of issue... but that's not to say there isn't though! Might be worth reporting on the Steinberg forum as it may be looked at in more detail...
@@musictechtuition will do.
When i record vst instrument with Arpache 5 as midi insert same way i dont have arpeggio just chords, instrument routing all midi inputs any ideas why not record arpeggio?
Have you got the record button activated on the MIDI insert? That moves it to a position where it should be recorded.
can you share your midi edit color settings please..

I eventually came up to the same conclusion.
