    Thanks for the video! I'm not sure I understand the bit at the beginning about Python? Is that something I need to install as well? I downloaded the "asset" for the CUDA version, unzipped it, ran the exe file and it seems to work. I didn't pre-install any Pyhton stuff though and am worried I may have missed something. Thanks again!

      Hey Jim. No, what you've downloaded does all the Python stuff in the background, so you don't have to worry about it. You didn't miss anything, and if it's working, you're all good.

    It's fine for modern music. I'm hoping for the ability to split out lead instruments from instrumental tracks, like a flute solo, or some Chinese instruments (Dizi, Hulusi). I haven't heard of anything that can do that yet.

      I did a pretty in-depth comparison here - th-cam.com/video/d-_IkE8siLo/w-d-xo.html - and generally it was similar to RipX (as I think it uses the same algorithm), but I also found that it varies considerably depending on the source material.

      I've seen a couple of people mention this; I've not had any issues with it, and it's also not flagged by Malwarebytes on either Windows or macOS (the one AV/AM solution that I trust), so I'm not aware of any actual issues with it; a lot of it is either easy-to-check Python or stuff like pytorch which is generally possible to check for having been messed with.

      Your comment wasn't removed - I'm not sure what you're referring to; I've only removed (I think!) 5 comments in the entire decade I've been on YT, and they were pretty clear candidates for deletion!
      I didn't mention UVR5 as I wasn't aware it did splitting (only removal), and made reference to this in another comment on the other video on spltting comparisons, but as it uses demucs I think the results would be largely the same (although I have found it to be slower than demucs-gui). Not sure how to reference a link to a comment, but on the other video you'll see I responded to louminati4318's comment on UVR5.

      TH-cam probably removed it. They don't allow (in most cases) posting of web links, etc. Maybe you triggered one of their "forbidden" words. It's really awful these days...completely innocuous comments get deleted with no explanation.

      @musictechtuition  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Have a look at the comparison video linked in the description; generally I found it to be on a par with SL10 and RipX (both of which use demucs), but it can be model and source dependent, so it's difficult to give a defininitive answer.

    • @rikkshow

    • @musictechtuition
      @musictechtuition  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rldivide Absolutely. There's a lot more to Spectralayers than stem splitting, and no more to demucs-GUI than stem splitting - they're very different in that respect.

  • @f.herumusu8341
    @f.herumusu8341 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think this comparison will be obsolete again in just a few months. Things are moving quickly in the AI world. My guess is that GANs will be the next step: As an experienced musician I know what a hihat should sound and what drummers typically play on a hihat, my brain adds frequencies and hits back if I try to isolate the hihat in my brain, even if they are not in the recording anymore. GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks) could do exactly that. Then you would reconstruct a believable sounding stem, that contains more information than your original recording (but these were only "guessed" based on the typical sound and playing of an instrument).

    • @musictechtuition
      @musictechtuition  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it probably will be semi-obsolote, but I'm not sure about GANs replacing these sort of tools any time soon. I actually think you're onto something with that, and I've thought that would be a good way for video 'restoration' for a long time (I think it was about 8 years ago during a long classroom discussion I first brought this up). But the main problem with GANs at the moment is a lack of control over the process, and also they will still create audio which is generated via ML, so it's probably going to sound like AI music generation tools (where in my experience things like kick drums don't have the attack and power than a fresh, clean sample will do).

    Demucs works great and fast here. But a header seriously claiming that it is as good as Spectralayers and RipX is a completely misleading overstatment from my view. Both of the latter offer a lot of functionality that Demucs does not have, from more than just four stems up to vast analyzing and editing functions, in complete song overview. I wouldn't consider replacing Rip-X or Spectralayers by Demucs on my system, not for a second! Only in cases, when I want only the four stems get done fast, and nothing else, I use Demucs.

    • @musictechtuition
      @musictechtuition  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I don't think the title claims that - It says that the stem splitting is as good as RipX and Spectralayers, and I think it is from the testing I did in a previous video. In the summary of that video I also say that both RipX and Spectralayers offer a lot of editing potential not present in Demucs GUI, but that if you're only using the stem splitting capability (and most of my clients who have either piece of software are primarily or solely using them for that function alone) then demucs GUI is a better option in terms of speed, workflow and cost (if you've not bought SL or RipX yet).
