The Wisdom of Odin is a vlog of my journey through Norse Paganism, a way to assist others along their journey, and a place to promote a positive image for all of paganism.
While I personally declare myself as a Norse Pagan, I speak on topics that also involve aspects of Asatru, Heathenry, and other pagan identities such as Slavic/Celtic/Germanic paganism.
The Wisdom of Odin is not associated or affiliated with any orginizations religious or politcial in nature. This channel/community is inclusive to all but is also non-political.
All gatherings held through the Wisdom of Odin and its extended community are private events held and organized by the members of the community. The only service the Wisdom of Odin provides is a place to connect with others of similar beliefs in the old ways.

I’ve just made an offering to Odin and to Thor for guidance on wisdom and courage in the upcoming times, then this pops up immediately after. The Gods are truly with you, never stop!
I just purchased a ton of books and audiobooks about Norse Paganism...
I have no idea what has brought me here. Im like you good sir, from Northwestern Europe (family lineage), and never thought of becoming a Pagan. I feel at peace in nature and hiking. I remember I was a bad, depressed, and sad alcoholic. I came to Japan and found peace in the land and nature. I then moved to New Mexico where I found peace in the mountains again. For so many years I struggled with Christianity and beliefs. I struggled with life after death, and thats all my life was filled with... despair. Since watching your videos and looking into this path, I have changed my view on things and am starting to feel at peace. Im also a huge history buff. Something draws me to Englands history and the Viking history. Maybe the gods have been calling me for years...
My mom gets huge into genealogy and ancestry stuff. She did a little research on my girlfriend and her family. One of her ancestors died “mysteriously”. My mom did some more digging and found out she died getting struck by lightning

I became a Norse Pagan not too long ago. About a week or so after my 18th birthday and I did my first offering to Odin, it was quite the experience. I didn't have anywhere to really set up an altar so I had to make do with what I had around me, I made some runes on paper. I offered the only thing I could get for the Allfather which was water. I had a bag that came with a Mjolnir necklace I bought and it had the Valknut on it. I laid it there, poured the water into a bowl that I had grabbed, and sprinkled some on the runes, the bag, and the necklace because I laid the necklace below the bowl. I sat on my floor in front of my makeshift altar which was on a chair I had, and I started speaking to the Allfather. As I am speaking, I felt a presence. I looked around the room and there was no one, but it felt comforting, I believe Odin came to me that day and I believe he is guiding me through life.
I'm so glad I found this channel a while ago. Met the landvaetiir for the first time a few months ago when I was swarmed with dragonflies in the woods near an old forgotten battle site from the Civil war near my home. I make my offerings there since it's so peaceful and I feel my presence isn't an affront to anything else there. You're doing a great thing for newcomers really. I'm glad you give the advice you receive. It let's others pass on that same info to others that are looking to change their lives. Paganism got me through my heavy bouts of depression and attempts on my life and I can't thank you enough for introducing me to this new lifestyle I live now.
The first time I made an offering to Odin was during a walk. Immediately afterward, I saw exactly two large, dark birds (crows? ravens?) in a field. One of them flew up to a branch directly above it, and called out 3 times. Maybe nothing, but it still felt magical to me.

No it's not it is a sign use that sign to take that moment you had and hold on to it also could of been the Irish goddess Morgan too she is a God who also has crows but Odin has ravens look into that sign make a offering or something that helps you with your path śkål
I'd definitely take that as a sign. That's the moment you look up, tske a deep breathe and take in the moment, and say thank you and continue walking with a smile

I am going to attempt on the biggest Blot in Uppsala/Sweden that happenes once in a while, where once was a temple in honouring The old Gods and I cant wait for that day finally to come. Feel the land spirits, connecting to the Gods and following our ancestors path makes it even more exciting. Not just physically but spiritually and mentally.
i've been hiking in the Appalachia going on 20 year and my partner and i still pick up tons of trash in the national forrest. It really makes a huge difference just to leave no trace. Any event i have ever hosted has been 100 % leave no trace.

I knew I was along for the ride from the get - go and now remember those early videos with great appreciation. It goes without saying, but, you were obviously chosen to bring the Old Ways to new Volk. And, for that, I say Thank You. I may not have any personal connection to any of you. Don’t litter!! When I am backpacking I always take a trash bag, and most of the time it can’t fit in my pack by the end of the hike. I have to tie it to the back. It’s really sad. Good work Jacob!

It's funny you mention cleaning up the forest and trails, last week I went on a hike and found searching for something to add to my altar. I was lead down an unmarked but clearly used trail. I noticed I was scaring the birds and contemplated leaving but felt pulled on a little further. At the spot I stopped, sitting 3ft off the trail was a perfect condition beer bottle from the 1980's!
The most magical thing that happened and why I believe it wasn't just a coincidence was after I retrieved the bottle I felt the wind blow at my back as though I was being told now I may/should leave.
That bottle is now part of my altar.
However, during one of my hikes years ago I had come across a box turtle that had gotten stuck trying to drink from a puddle. I got the turtle out and smoothed the puddle so that if it returned it wouldn't get stuck.
Do you think the forest would have remembered that and finding the bottle was related?

Nothing pisses me off more than littering. I had all three of my kids involved in Boy/Girl Scouts & they learned a lot about "leave no trace" and being respectful towards nature and the outside world. I taught those same principles at home, but it was nice having it reinforced by someone who wasn't 'Mom". I think teaching our kids to respect nature, animals and their ancestors is so important.
I can't really go out at a whim to find other pagans. I wish I could, but being a senior amongst a Catholic family and no one knows that I am a pagan I just don't want to cause grief. I have a bisexual daughter and a transgender grandchild, and that is more acceptable than me telling everyone that I'm pagan, so I try to reach people by social media to no avail. I might be able to venture a day trip. Thanks for the video as always. ❤

Gods it is about devotion, not only in ritual but also in following the wisdom of Hávamál in daily life.
As for rituals, the sacrifice is important. Personal sacrifices and sacrificing some of the food you are going to eat after, because you must eat with the Gods, of the Gods and gorge in Godly might.
During a blót it is not about prayer and asking for help it is more about declaring devotion to the Gods and promising to do someting with your life. Can be specific and if you are true to your promise, you may or may not feel helped.
I find it interresting that americans are worshipping my Gods, but also somewhat confusing. Where do you have blót? We use burual mounds and sacred sites. But heatenry is a good path for humanity if we are to save ourselves from this age og narssicistic degeneration, so I wish you the best.
Do you use old norse for some phrases. We do - not because the Gods do not understand modern Danish, but because it helps establish a ritualistic and spiritual mind set, that helps to establish the connection to Regin.
The closest thing we have in terms of a prayer is Sigdrífumál 3 and 4. From Codex Regius. This is one example of something that can be recited in Old Norse. If you need help, let me know.
I am pleased to see that you mention the three aspects - the Gods(and spirits), the land and the people (folk). That ties in with the three faces of the Gods as well and is an important approach to understanding the Gods and spirits and their relationship to us through nature.
And finally. Be careful with Loke. While he is an important part of the Godly realm and life in general, being an important chaotic force of nature - no man can control or know where that force may end up if his name is invoked in ritual. If someone does invoke Lokes name anyway, you can call upon Odin and Thor, since they are the balancing forces in relation to Loke.

Are the Gods/Godesses present in countries far away from their origins? Do they answer someone in Australia for instance? How does that work? Also why do you think that there is a predominance of male followers in groups such as yours?

I assume so. I am an irish pagan and had visions of the morrigan, because i was at a low point and the irish death goddess wad there, so i believe she is with me, even though it is a couple thousand miles away.
Someone on one of these videos lived in Japan for like 10 years and he claimed the kami watched over him even though he is in the US now.
