Ok, experts, I own a 2013 E550 cabrio, in fact, the only one I've even seen in my 'hood. I'm no track expert by any means, but I've consistently gone 0-60 in 4.5 seconds in "Sport" mode. I'm not surprised that C&D did it in 4.3 (coup). Mercedes says 5 secs to 60 in their specs but they're traditionally very conservative. My son owns a 2014 Aston DB9 and I can give him a real run for those 12 cylinders he's got! And if we wanna be picky, it's 402 hp and 443 lb. ft. of cam spinner (^ ^).
Great video Roman. Nice car, subtle, powerful, classy. Very nice, even if it is expensive. As the guy below said, you could have an AMG C class, but this is aimed at a different market. Not everyone wants a car that's tuned and set up like an S5 or an AMG.
MB is my favorite car company because of the crash technology and longevity factor. I want the E-coupe 4-Matic clean diesel. 401 horsepower for a twin turbo is WAY underpowered though. Anybody should be able to get 401 horsepower today from a V-8 without turbos. A $90,000 twin turbo V-8 SHOULD be pushing at LEAST 500+ horsepower. For 401 horsepower you MAY as well use a twin turbo V-6 and get the fuel economy like the new Porsche Panamera.
Given the nature of this car I am not sure that there is any great need to know the numbers, 0-60/EPA/actual costs etc. It will not matter to the folks who will buy this car, other than for bragging purposes. All anyone needs to know about it is clearly seen in the silly grin it put on your face. The way you communicated the thrill and fun of this car may very well sell a few units. Thank you for the ride along on that beautiful road.
I agree with you with the torgue figures and dont get me wrong that is a great thing. I know whats going on here the same engine is in the AMG model and yet it makes quite a lot more HP
At what age and mileage in an E class convertible is it the sweet spot to purchase used, daily drive 12-15k per year for two years, then sell with respectable value and reliability remaining on the car? E350, E400, E550
I bought a ‘14 E550 over a year ago for 17k at 102k I thought the miles were a little too high, but it looked good in the photos so I flew out to look at the car anyway and let me tell you man I was blown away by how well it was maintained they could’ve told me it had 20k miles I would’ve believed them. They had all the documents of when the car was serviced by Mercedes only which was consistent pattern. Test drove it I was sold still don’t regret buying with that many miles. The car has held up very well since I bought it, not a check engine light at all. The cabriolets are more expensive than the coupes and it depends on the options the car has a low optioned one with about 40 - 60k miles I wouldn’t pay anymore than 30k. But a high optioned E550 can still run you at almost 50 grand.
Can u guys at the Fast Lane Car do a video with a Kia Sportage, Toyota Rav4 2013, Nissan Qashqai and a Mazda CX - 5? I think it might be a super review .
I think they look more distict now than in the early 90s late 80s. W201, W124 and W126 looked pretty much the same just longer and bigger grills in the order above.
Exactly, A "C" The 550 is the top of the range for the E coupe, there is no AMG model. People are forgetting that the price of mercedes are really low now compared to the early 90s and 80s. 90 grand could not buy you a W124 500E in 1992 if corrected for inflation.
It starts at 60,000, U will have very few that are optioned as well as the tester. I think most people think that 80,000 grand was the average price, most of em won't cost that much or even close.
This is essentially a CLK, maybe a little more roomy than that previous model, now built on the actual E platform, iirc. You pay for AMG spec or you pay for a convertible top. Gramps might prefer the wind in his hair over Nordschleife times.
this motor is underrated and it can make a lot more easily if you want it to.. its not like MB (or any brand) would jump from 382 to 500 HP in one generation and trim level. Shouldn't judge from peak figures either, this makes much more torque from a much lower RPM. Might only have 20+ HP, but it has a boatload more torque and cut an entire second off its 1/4 ET and added more than 10 MPH from the older engine.
A Black top will look cheaper with Silver, especially as it ages. But that brings up the real $85K question...No folding hardtop? Even an SLK has a painted roof.
It costs even more in Europe where it is made bro. Because so many people lease in America a lot of people drive expensive cars they cannot afford, just like the housing market.
It's a luxury car with a ton of high tech options, and you're also paying for the star on the front. Mercedes can get away with stuff like this, customers for E class and upwards do not care much about the price (or about mileage) - if they buy a cabriolet like this, it's probably as a second car.
Further, you also see the kids often leverage a business for down payments and such, but never firmly establish themselves and rather are always on the verge of the car being taken and hurting the business.
Car and Driver instrument tested this car at 4.4 sec. 0-60. www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2014-mercedes-benz-e550-cabriolet-test-review The Audi S5 cabriolet is 5.2 and the Audi RS5 cabriolet is 4.9.
Doesn't surprise me, I've seen it happen amongst some of my peers that either caused the business to fold or they just wanted to make a quick buck and tossed it aside once the grandparents died and the parents hand over the rings. I guess I wasn't specific when I meant "their children", I mean the children of the second generation.
You'd also be surprised that is often a grandparent that sets up a business, the kid becomes too involved, and their children end up being the furthest removed from perspective and gain a sense of entitlement and get their way through their parents and not the original grandparent. Things easily become cutthroat once lawyers and company control are involved.
huh 85k; would never shell out that kind of money on a car. I picked up a Prizm for a bit more than a grand and had more fun learning how to touch up a few nagging problems such as sensors, body work, belts, etc. No one wants to steal it either.
Damn technology has come a long way...my 2000 maxima only has a bonestock V6 and still is more thirsty then this fun little convertible. Then again comparing Nissan to Mercedes is like exchanging stares with a statue...fucks the point?
Every smart guy I've met with money drove old Buicks, Corollas, etc. Now the kids they have are the ones you see driving flashy cars. Anyone can "appreciate" property that doesn't "depreciate" as much as an 80,000 German Luxury car. I also don't need a service department kissing my ass for extremely overpriced service. That is dumb and lazy, that $80,000 in well diversified investments is the smart way.
Lol, so in other words they still bought those expensive cars, albeit for their kids, which in other words, they had the money to shell out for these cars and they did.
How old are you? Clearly you didn't get the point. The financially savvy that established the wealth and clearly know how to manage money to get where they were didn't splurge on excess property that loses significant value year after year. Track money through generations and you see it only takes one irresponsible generation to ruin the hard work of multiple savvy/frugal generations. I've seen it first hand. It isn't about having money, its how you use it.
when a turbo goes, its fucked... Why do you think its stupid to buy an 8 year old 7 series or S-class? theyll total themselves and suck money out of your walet. ell, my friend's 2009 7-series is already at it, not much help from the rip-you-off-any-chance-they-get BMW dealerships.
hahaha love Roman´s reactions! Well, anyone would react like this driving one of those.
congrats FLC for being the first review on youtube of this model!

Rentech dynoed the e550 @435 hp and over 500ftlbs of torque. MBZ is always conservative in it's performance data.

lol you don't understand what they are doing with there engines now a days.
Dude have u bothered to check the torque figures?
A Renntech tune gets it to 540hp
I am sure Javier had to go along, how else do you ensure the "shipment" in the hidden compartment makes it to its destination.
Given the nature of this car I am not sure that there is any great need to know the numbers, 0-60/EPA/actual costs etc. It will not matter to the folks who will buy this car, other than for bragging purposes. Hahaha... I like Javier, very good sense of humor. Nice addition to the video. Lucked out with a good partner on this review.
did he said oregon haha, perfect place for this car...
Yah I was thinking the same thing, nowadays most MB V8s almost make 400, so what are the turbos doing. Week V8 it seems
Thanks for Uploading this Vid. Heard MB will no longer have a V8 in this model. If True that would be A Shame.
Thanks Roman, nice video
You're envying people who live in Oregon? You guys live in Colorado, that state has some of the most gorgeous roads. :O
Can u guys at the Fast Lane Car do a video with a Kia Sportage, Toyota Rav4 2013, Nissan Qashqai and a Mazda CX - 5? I think it might be a super review .
Rentech dynoed the e550 @435 hp and over 500ftlbs of torque. MBZ is always conservative in it's performance data.
True, with proper maintenance this car would last u a lifetime easily.
Roman -- is it me or have auto manufacturers enjoy going out to Oregon for their press releases?
I think they look more distict now than in the early 90s late 80s. W201, W124 and W126 looked pretty much the same just longer and bigger grills in the order above.
Why didn’t you deploy the air cap feature?
ever been to the tillamook cheese factory? the drive there from Portland is just too amazing!
After ticking every option and service offered it topped out at $87,031. That's with a ton of stuff most people don't need or want.
U have good reviews , thanks
Hey are you guys going to do a full review of the the 2014 cts?
Exactly, A "C" The 550 is the top of the range for the E coupe, there is no AMG model. People are forgetting that the price of mercedes are really low now compared to the early 90s and 80s. 90 grand could not buy you a W124 500E in 1992 if corrected for inflation.

You guys should make a video of the 2014 lexus is 350
Roman, it was 4.8 seconds. Pretty quick for a 550
this motor is underrated and it can make a lot more easily if you want it to.. its not like MB (or any brand) would jump from 382 to 500 HP in one generation and trim level. But what if you want a Mercedes convertible with more luxury than a C Klasse. -___-
A Black top will look cheaper with Silver, especially as it ages. But that brings up the real $85K question...No folding hardtop? Even an SLK has a painted roof.
Lol that's not my point. My point is, if one has the money to buy an expensive car, they often will. And you proved me right.
It costs even more in Europe where it is made bro. Because so many people lease in America a lot of people drive expensive cars they cannot afford, just like the housing market.
Do they have an AMG cabrio?
I watched & timed you 4 times & 3 of those times was 4.83 - 0 to 60 mph I hope you were using a bad camera so it could get 4.6 :D
Looking forward to picking one up for 30k in 2 years lmao

it competes with neither of those, if you want to know, the closest Audi fighter for this would be the S5 cabriolet.
Scrap? Mercs are very reliable and will live for years!
would never shell out the money, or would never have the money to shell out, lol.
Further, you also see the kids often leverage a business for down payments and such, but never firmly establish themselves and rather are always on the verge of the car being taken and hurting the business.
So? You gonna buy it?
I love it
Cant wait for then to make a e63 amg coupe and cab
Car and Driver instrument tested this car at 4.4 sec. 0-60. www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2014-mercedes-benz-e550-cabriolet-test-review
The Audi S5 cabriolet is 5.2 and the Audi RS5 cabriolet is 4.9.
The E-class is comparable to the Audi A6, S6, and RS6, not the less powerful Audi 5 series.
82k is too much money for this car. You could get a C63 AMG coupe or an RS5 cabriolet. Both are more fun, sporty, and fun to drive.
That's a lot of cheddar.
Not because it's 8 cylinders, think about the difference in displacement as well.
You'd also be surprised that is often a grandparent that sets up a business, the kid becomes too involved, and their children end up being the furthest removed from perspective and gain a sense of entitlement and get their way through their parents and not the original grandparent. Things easily become cutthroat once lawyers and company control are involved.
A Bentley convertible doesn't come with a hard top either, so what's the big deal?
Fair enough. I guess it's probably due to the size of the rear window.
With a tune this one can do atleast 500hp i think.
0-60mph: Faster than a Murano CrossCabrio, just barely.
huh 85k; would never shell out that kind of money on a car. I picked up a Prizm for a bit more than a grand and had more fun learning how to touch up a few nagging problems such as sensors, body work, belts, etc. No one wants to steal it either.
"E five hundred-and-fifty"?
Um, that's an interesting way of saying it.
Kind of like saying Porsche nine hundred-and-eleven.
;-)
I agree. Red on Silver doesn't do anything for me either. This is a serious chick car.
Such a nice car but I can't see myself paying that much money.
Problem with the C-Class is the next generation is coming next year
comparable to an audi a5? a more reasonable comparison would be an S5.
A fully loaded one, I might add
Damn technology has come a long way...my 2000 maxima only has a bonestock V6 and still is more thirsty then this fun little convertible. Then again comparing Nissan to Mercedes is like exchanging stares with a statue...fucks the point?
60k as soon as it exits the dealership, and scrap as soon as the warranty runs out.

I timed it at 5.67
nice ride, but 85k??? is that a joke?
Fuel Milage
Tillamook Cheese
It may look like an E and it may say E, but it really is a C.
wow 85 for that?
I hear that's a cabrio... lol
5.14
Around 5 or 6
Maybe 6.5
I bet you wont see one for 60k in 3 years!
anyone else have a Cadillac commercial
6 seconds. Damm
ew why is the top red, that just makes it look bad.
twin turbo V8 with so little power compared to even old V8s without power adders hmm.
4.9 sec
That car in no way competes eight he A5! It competes with the Rs5 the one with the V8
Tristan R true. But I think he means the comparison in term of car segment
0 - 60 in 2 seconds lol .
No it won't. That's an exaggeration, but these depreciates like lead in the ocean.
5 or 6 second
0-60 5.6 secs
the c is too tide inside
for 85 you can get a c63 amg
Lol, so in other words they still bought those expensive cars, albeit for their kids, which in other words, they had the money to shell out for these cars and they did.

i got 4.6 seconds lol
me too when i drive mine
4.82
5.4 sec 0-60
Not even comparable really..
when a turbo goes, its fucked... Why do you think its stupid to buy an 8 year old 7 series or S-class? theyll total themselves and suck money out of your walet. ell, my friend's 2009 7-series is already at it, not much help from the rip-you-off-any-chance-they-get BMW dealerships.
5.11
0-60 in 5.28 seconds
Not a 550
0-60 4.8 seconds.
