    www.lynnedawson...
    Translation from Latin:
Deliver me, O Lord, from eternal death in that dread day when the heavens and the Earth shall be shaken, and you will come to judge the world by fire.
I tremble in awe of the judgment and the coming wrath.
Day of wrath, day of calamity and woe, great and exceeding bitter day.
Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Forget about Elton John, you all. This is the real music. This is not a common requiem. Verdi alone gives justice to the lonely souls, just like lady diana's sweet one.

Lynne Dawson captured the sound of mourning and plaintive Seraphim and Cherubim distraught over the soul of Diana leaving the earthy plain for eternal rest all too soon. So haunting. Captured the emotion of the world.

I can't even begin to imagine the 'stress' (and that's a totally inadequate word) of performing this feat of musical perfection under such unique circumstances. Ms Dawson's performance was beyond world-class. It stunned me on the day and does so every single time I hear it so very many years later. I also feel that mention must be made of the orchestral accompaniment masterfully adapted on the Abbey organ by the wonderful Martin Baker. Sublime in its entirety.

    • @MS-19
      @MS-19 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Not long after this performance, Lynne Dawson blogged about it, revealing that the stress was compounded by the fact that the Verdi excerpt was added to the order of service just two or three days beforehand, so she had that much notice, equating to very little preparation and not much sleep. The last-minute addition of the piece was also the reason why the BBC Singers were present - when the request was put to the Abbey Organist and Master of the Choristers (Martin Neary), he said that there wouldn't be time for the choir boys to master it, but that he might see if the BBC Singers could be engaged. Being a full-time professional chamber choir, they would be able to perform the chorus on just one rehearsal.

I had requested a lot of the late Princess Diana’s music from her funeral to be played in my funeral last year but thankfully I had recovered from the illness i had. Me and Woody.EXE planned it together whilst Mummy, Princess of Wales slept at our side in hospital and I had it planned just days before i nearly died. I was only 20 when I had it and I made it to 21. Princess Diana’s funeral haunts me knowing that could have been me last year

For years people tell others you cannot do stuff, imagine if we are told not be poor. Meaning we are programmed to be poor. For example i was told at 10 by a teacher i cannot sing, at 13 i was told i could never learn German because i could not speak french. I was working as security that day at the funeral, a day I shall never forget. After the Courtage passed by I had to work next to the huge screen in Hyde Park forming a human chain with collegues.
We could only hear what the thousands could see on the large screen as we were looking out towards the crowd. I have never seen so much sadness as far as the eye could see. 😢 x

My 90-yr-old Iwo Jima Uncle, a Franciscan Friar, first devoted his life to our Nation in helping to save the world, and then again as an Army Paratrooper to help save South Korea, thereafter spent his remaining life devoted to God and restoring our Calif Missions and helping others -- crossed over to Heaven yesterday, and I am listening to this for comfort and rejoicing that he is now in Heaven again with our family and Jesus. Amen. Thank you, Lynne Dawson, for the most brilliant rendition of this masterpiece.
    God bless all

I have to say I agree with everyone. This will always be one of the most magnificent moments of any historic mark in time. She has the true sound of a nightingale. Im a huge Elton John fan but it was out of place. Too commercial for such an event. Even though I did think he had such little time to prepare but I wish he had just declined.

Thank you for posting this. I tried for years to find it. I watched the funeral on TV and Lynne Dawson's pure, perfect voice, seared my heart as well as the hearts of the billions more who were devasted by this young woman's senseless death. I saw children crying, young men and girls crying, people sobbing, men and elderly women with handkerchiefs dabbing their eyes. It was a truly devastating event. And, the silence.....only the sound of horse hooves on the pavement. It, in fact, was more sorrowful than President Kennedy's funeral, even with the cadence of the mournful music, Jackie Kennedy walking, walking, this woman, so that the world could see what they had done to her and our nation.
But, Diana was so young, so beautiful, so privileged to be a Royal Princess, the Princess all little girls dream about and who will be their Prince Charming. Well in these two cases, Diana and Jackie, the Prince was actually that Frog we are warned about. Diana, in love, infatuated, perhaps, with Prince Charles, no guidance, no mentor, no family person to stand at her side and counsel her. I lived in England, near London, from 1959 to 1962.
I was 15 at the start and charmed by royalty. Seeing their public behavior was inspiring. Their beautiful clothing was something to rise to. I learned to sew my own dresses to get the look I wanted and that I could afford. Queen Elizabeth was so patriotic and dutiful. What a supreme model. Never saying anything untoward. Would that the United States could have a person in a role like hers to take public events and duties off the shoulders of the President. Perhaps that is what our vice-president should do. Instead, it's all about how to keep your job....keep getting re-elected. Say anything, anything, reverse your positions, raise money from unions and corporations and associations, whatever. Keep getting elected. The monarch is also the one the civil service, police, other government workers work for. They in fact are not public servants but rather duty-bound to the Queen. What a good system, right? Yet, no. Queen Elizabeth staying in Scotland for so long before returning to Buckingham Palace. And, I remembered the tragic death of elementary school children in Wales when a ridiculous mountain of rain-soaked shale leavings from a local mine flooded and covered the school and those children and teachers. It took the Queen how many weeks, months, to go there and display her grief? Did the government Ever prosecute the owners of that mine? They should be rotting in Hell and hopefully dead by now. The fake tear....that woman and her family are cold-hearted monsters dedicated only to keeping Their jobs. Blood does not flow in their veins. I am very sorry to have come to these conclusions because having visited Great Britain seven or more times since 1962, I love those people and their villages, and their preserves, London (my favorite city in the world), the Tube system, fish and chips, the cathedrals and their choirs and their composers (Elgar, for one), the Proms, on, and on. Such a fabulous culture. Not perfect (evil treatment of the Irish people, Indian people....)
Love, Love, Love is in my heart and soul. But, no longer the Royal family. What will the UK do? Seems today they are as unhappy with government there as the US is with theirs.
Diana, to save her sanity, chose, chose, to focus light of the reality of AIDS, land mines. This brave woman, all alone, going forward into danger. Her husband, the philanderer and that conspirator, Camilla. So now that pair seem to be doing good things, truly good things. But never forget, they are cold and evil. So what will William do. Seems to have a wonderful wife and children. Yet, this wonderful Kate having to bear up under cancer, tells the world their is no fairness. Do not teach your children that things should be fair. Teach them instead to persevere, be resourceful, strong and brave. Teach the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do to you.
The press, and media, are another group of monsters. Make no mistake, only the story counts, getting it published or on TV. Say anything, hound people. All for being paid a sum of money at the expense, often, of people's careers and lives, and the truth. They should go among us with a marking so the rest of us can get far from them.
Anyway, Lynne Dawson's ethereal voice got me started. Thanks for reading.
