  • This video shows how we diagnosed and fixed a check engine light and P0299 turbocharger underboost code on a 2020 Ford Explorer with the 2.3 Ecoboost engine. Shows freeze frame data and boost level before and after the fix. In the end the problem was a restricted air inlet tube to the turbocharger.

    I was working on a 2020 explorer with the same code near the end of the day,didn't get to far with diag ( FDRS is a turd ) happen to search on TH-cam when I found you, like to say thanks, went in this morning and pulled the air duct and there it was just like you showed saved me some time , guessing it'll be a TSB before long thanks again

      If I could get paid for all the time I waste on FDRS I would have retired by now. Honestly, I use Forscan a lot instead, although I’m sure the gods in Detroit wouldn’t like that answer. I’d wondered if that was the only one or if the tube was coming apart on others. Thanks for letting me know. Glad it helped.

      Probably. I’m not sure what that’s suppose to gain.

    I know this has been awhile but have you seen this on the 3.0L too? I have a 2020 ST and I occasionally feel like I request boost by giving more throttle but the car does not feel like the boost is kicking in.

      I haven’t. If the boost drops by more than 4 or 5 psi over what’s expected it should set an underboost code.

    I bought a 2020 Explorer this week and there's one thing I noticed when it's downshifting, the shifter can't be smooth and at some point you feel that this shift is not being smooth (a little punch in the shift when downshifting). Now when I'm accelerating I don't even hear the gear changes. Have you ever seen something like this? It would just be a reconfiguration or something like that.

      I’m not a huge fan of the 10-speed transmissions. No one seems likes the shift feel on them. There is at least one TSB out on them for valve body issues and I’ve heard of a few that seals have failed internally, and even a couple with bushings spun.

    I just did a 20 explorer turbo today , and its funny becasue i def didn't put the 2 wind tunnels back in the pipe in the trash they went also if they break up and get material in the turbo

      I agree, and I’m not sure what they’re really suppose to do anyway.

    I do have a question, i have a code on this exact vehicle for waste gate stuck closed , and i swaped the actuator, same ! And if i clear the code while the vehicle is running it says away but on each start up it comes back , and the plug is good harness is in good shape ????

    • @CarShopTalk
      @CarShopTalk  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a wastegate seized on one a while back, the actuator couldn’t move it, but I think that’s the only wastegate problem I’ve seen on one. Well, other than the two brand new ones that came from the factory with bent wastegates.

      @@CarShopTalk i appreciate it but naw , i already said the waste actuator is moving on start up
