- I love the NES, and growing up Konami was one of my favorite publishers! I take a look back at all 34 Konami titles, and rank them based on what I think of them today!

This is my personal opinion, but if any Konami game should be a S-Tier it is Contra. It is a nearly perfect video game and it is the game that most people associate the “Konami Code” with, which is an iconic piece of video game history. We all loved it back then and it was regarded as one of the best NES games everyone wanted to play along with games like Zelda, Mega Man 2, Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and SMB 3. Finally, in my eyes it is still one of the best co-op games to this day.
I thought I was the only one who played Lone Ranger on NES! That game was awesome!

No, you're not the only Who played, and yes, it's such a Big game, one of the most gems on the catalogue. Nice control, atmosphere, gameplay, música and graphics.

Why didn’t you include the “Ultra” games like TMNT and Metal Gear? They are all Konami games.
Yup. They are. I split them up because, frankly, they're listed as different publishers on the NES Guide site, and putting them all on one must would have made the video far too long.

I remember playing a lot of those games as a kid. Man watching these videos makes me wish I didn't get rid of my old systems!!! Also, I would love to see rankings of the Bethesda games.

Adventures of Bayou Billy definitely deserves B. It's 3 games in 1! You can even use a famicom gun in several levels. Contra force is the B game!
I respect your opinion, truly, but I cannot give Bayou Billy a good score. I have legitimately never had fun playing it.

Really enjoyed this one. The glory days of good old Konami were something special.
I have a soft spot for Bayou Billly, because I was sick for a long time, and the only thing I felt like doing was play video games, so I got good enough at it to reach the two Terminator final bosses, even though I was never able to beat them. There is a game called "Mad City" for the Famicom that uses the same assets but is much more forgiving.
Also, I'm kind of in a similar boat as you with Contra. It's a game that I appreciate, but not one that I necessarily have fun with. I'm always tensed up when I play it, and it's life a sigh of relief when I finally finish it. Anyways, sorry for the long comment, and thanks again for the video!
manhattan project should be ranked higher, it's frustrating but challenging in a motivating way... I would give it a B, it is fun once you figure out the tricks
I've tried giving that game chances since it dropped, and it just doesn't click for me. And that's ok! Not every game is for every person. :)
I’m interested to see what you say about Contra if you rank Konami games on the SNES or Genesis. The vibe of NES Contra is very different.

Double dribble was A class, fun as hell but could use upgrade in graphics and player skills. Every player was the same 😂

Bayou Billy was actually made more difficult for the western release. The Japanese version Mad City is way easier.

Frankly, I'm surprised Bayou Billy wasn't an F. I gave it a try out of interest in the genre mashup and setting with high hopes going in, but I found it completely unplayable.
I was feeling particularly merciful that day. Normally it'd be an F for me. I think the digital voice bumped it up a grade. 🤣
Out of all the sports games on NES I would say tecmo bowl and blades of steel are the best ones 👍

Wow I'd give Double Dribble at least a B. I don't follow the NBA, but the game rocked! Contra is easy, I beat it a few times without dying.
Contra and I have had a contentious relationship since I was a kid. 🤣🤣

Contra will always be an S to me. I bought it with money that I saved up and loved the game as soon as I turned on my NES.
Actually, I just played through it about 1 month ago. I used the Konami code. I think I had around 5 lives at the end.
I'm sorry, but I completely disagree with your ranking. Castlevania 3 is better than Castlevania 1? Contra is a B? Bayou Billy a D? Blades of Steel S? Track and Field 2 not S? WOW.
Your rankings are like my little brother telling me he likes a game just because they were easy. Back in the day, the hard games were considered the better games. We played NES games in a room full of kids so the 2 player games rank very high.
No hate for you and thanks for the rankings, but as a Gen Xer who owned the games, this ranking is so so wrong.

Truly sorry if that's the case - but the beauty of these rankings is that they're just my opinion, doesn't make them right for anyone but me. If you enjoy Top Gun and Second Mission, then you rock those games and trumpet how much you love them. I might not agree with you, but I'm happy to hear why you dig them so much. I hope you'll stick around and see what else we've got, because I'd hate to lose a viewer over Top Gun regularly kicking my ass up around my shoulder blades. :)
@@SquarePegs hahaha that's funny. Actually when I see these rankings an F is given to games that are basically unplayable type of thing you know? So it's not a diff of opinion type of thing I'm just thinking they're definitely playable at least was my theory.
On a playability level, sure they wouldn't be an F, but that's not what I was going for here. I'll do better to make sure that's explained more clearly going forward. Thanks for the feedback!

Contra and Super Contra are the Best till today. TMNT 2 and 3 are masterpieces. They are S Rank

@Square pegs sorry. But your wrong about tmnt 3. I like 2 but 3 is the cleaner better version. Designs are better. Controls alot better. Music is as good if not better following the animated design was the smarter choice this is easy S tier spot. A Tier on the low end not C. You may want to look harder
I've looked plenty hard. It's not a game that connects for me - and that's ok. Just like you thinking it's an S tier. I don't agree, but I don't think you're wrong - we're just different in this regard.
@@SquarePegs thats fair i love 2 but is B maybe A tier but the designs are more choppy compared to 3 its just cleaner has better levels music controls are not as clunky better variety of enemies and better story which is why 3 will be S tier and 2 will be either A or B tier which aint a bad thing

What about TMNT II : The Arcade Game wasn't that Konami
TMNT 2: The Arcade Game was technically published by Konami, yes, but it was under the Ultra branding. I'll be doing an Ultra video sometime in the next couple months to get those loose ends cleaned up. :)
Track and field is S class
I've heard only good things about double dribble, never seen any channel on TH-cam say a bad word about it so I was shocked when you gave it a D- lol
It's never been a game I've enjoyed. Even as a kid, when I rented it, I thought it was disappointing. Just wasn't for me. :)
The Ultragames label games should also be added to this list. As ultragames like for example Metal Gear and Roller Games were released under the actual Konami brand. Palcom Software was the European version of Ultragames. Castlevania III was released under that label in EU.
Yup, I'm aware of the imprint being part of the Konami label. Just wanted them split out for ease of organization on my side, honestly.
Was your Goonies II cartridge glitching out? That first area is not supposed to look like that. Pretty weird!

So, the idea I had was to do a pre-ranking based entirely on nostalgia. The final rankings are how they rank after I went back and played them as an adult. 🙂

Nostalgia does seem to amplify opinions over time. Super C, Life Force and Blades of Steel stand out as my top 3.

Well, I don't hate TMNT 3. I just think it's average. There's a big difference between something like Tournament Fighters and TMNT 3 in terms of quality, just like - to me - there's a big difference between TMNT 3 and TMNT 2 in terms of quality.
Contra is fine. It's an above average game that just doesn't bring me as much happiness as it did when I was a kid.

Blade of Steel is S tier all day long.

Hold up, did I miss something? Where's Metal Gear? That's Konami, right? Was it so bad it didn't even place? I know the game's not great but surely it's better than Top Gun! I dunno. I Feel Asleep.
Technically, Metal Gear was published by Ultra, and not Konami. 😉

I mean, if you're talking overall popularity and how well known it is? Sure. Hell, I would've gone with that before I played them again. TMNT3 just feels like Great Value Karate Terrapins. It's close, but it's not quite there.
I disagree. Monsters is just kind of blah. It was sort of fun the first time I played it but I never had the urge to return. Tmnt takes everything from Tmnt 2 and does one better. It has more imaginative boss fights, all of which look great. The Turtles all have new unique special moves, which give the game more replay value, and the music! You’ll be hearing it in your head for a week because it’s that damn good. Tmnt 3 was popular because it was awesome (and because of turtle mania of course...but even if it wasn’t turtles and didn’t sell well...it would be a rare hidden gem worth hundreds!)

Good to know! I've never played anything on the MSX before - I'll have to look into it! Is there a particular game (any publisher) you suggest that would be a good gateway game for me to try out to get a feel for the computer?
@@SquarePegs almost all games by Konami are very good. I suggest to try with Knightmare or Yie Ar Kung-fu 2. Also The Goonies and King's Valley.
