  • My last effort at demonstrating this pedal got a lot of negative feedback. This I'm recording direct. It's a great pedal with lots of amp simulations - definitely one for those who like classic tones, there's no guitar-synth experimentation here.

    Busted mine out today after 2-3 years of it sitting in the closet, ignored, as I used my huge pedalboard. Color me surprised when I realized I'd been using it incorrectly for years, leaving the "amp/cab" emulation on in front of a tube amp. Just popped it in the effects loop of my 5150, disabled the emulation, and holy crap, the modulation and reverb sound incredible. Glad I didn't sell it!

    Been using my RP 500 for over 10 years. Had a guy build a custom combo cab for me with cutouts for 2 10" speakers and a 1U slot. Then I populated it with 2 Jensen Neo speakers and a Rocktron stereo power amp, which is fed by the RP. Lighter and more versatile than my 100# Mesa rig. The RP takes some dialing in, but X-Edit gets you there pretty fast. And that red LED display is way easier to read than most of these newer multi-fx units.

    Still have my RP500. Absolute bargain. Spent about a week checking out its billion sounds, only ever use about 3 of them. It's always on just to warm the gain up, and tuner is great, v easy to use (just don't switch the looper on by mistake mid-gig!) Must have gigged it 1-200x, solid.

    Good video. I've had the 500 now for more than 13 years. I like it a lot even though I've been tempted to buy an extra stomp box here and there, I keep falling back on the fact that the unit can do most anything. Of course it's not perfect, but it's really good. The amp simulations IMO are really more interesting than the boutique distortions/overdrives. And it's also important to realize each guitar and pickup will sound differently with it. So I've been working with setting programs that are for each of my 3 guitars independently. A few challenges I've been trying to tweak is getting the sounds of Larry Carlton and Justin Hayward's overdrive. Also combining amp simulation with overdrive and compression to get a mixed sound. More hours to go with it.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love your comment "each guitar and pickup will sound differently with it" ...This is so true with all pedals, if people realized that then a lot of arguments could be avoided!! Thanks for watching #gearfacts

      @@gearfacts Thanks. Just as a follow up, today I spent a couple of hours and with the right amp sim and overdrive and compression combinations, I was able to get a pretty good simulation of a Dumble sound, ala Larry Carlton type with my SG2000 guitar. And with my Strat, and another program with overdrive, and amp sim and compression, I made a really close sounding Jeff Beck ala Wired album sound.
      More to program!

      @cranstjs 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melty1418 I set up a preset that uses the Fender Champ amp model and I have a Yamaha SG 2000 guitar and an Epiphone semi hollow body. If you listen closely to many of his songs, he doesn't lean on the bridge pickup only. He will mix it up with neck and bridge. With the right settings I can get a pretty close Dumble type sound, which Carlton is known for.

    Nice video. Coming in a little late, but purchased an rp500 on ebay last year and just recently digging into it.
    I'm currently running a stereo setup up with a Fender Princeton Chorus and a Roland Cube 60. I'm using the Amp/Cabinet Bypass, overdrive from a Tube Screamer and I have a Morley Wah in front of the RP 500.
    Also the gain channel from the Fender and Cube for some fun sounds. Amazing difference in volume going from a classic vibe tele to an Epi es339. The master volume rp500 and the volume pedal comes in handy.
    You can achieve a very full sound in stereo, especially if you mess with the delays and reverb setting as well as the different modulations. Before the current set up it was a Orange Micro Dark and the Princeton Chorus in stereo..
    I'm currently researching a 3 amp set up with the Orange MD dry and the Princeton and Cube in Stereo, Maybe an ABY box might do the trick? Any suggestions for the 3 amp set up would be appreciated. If you have 2 amps definitely give the rp stereo set up a try.
