Actually this song was of 1980's. Arjan velly was actually a person during British period as he was from kaunke Jagraon dist Moga Punjab. Velly means a quarrelsome or anti social person who is always against the leadership especially against the dictatorship. The way this song is sung, it is called shand(छंद). This dhadi rhyme are in different form for eg Kalli, Shand, Vaar etc. This was first began during the period of 6th Guru known as Guru Hargobind Sahib. They were called upon at Akal Takht sahib and Baba Bidhi Chand brought then with due respect on Elephant. These 2 dhadi's were known as Nathmal and Abdullah. Before this people won't give that respect to dhadi's but after Guru Hargobind Sahib invited them, they are given huge respect till today in sikh religion. Guru Hargobind sahib praised them for singing vaar (the powerful verse with courage full tune) before they arrive for the battle. After that, this thing continued till today. Even today, dhadi's use to sing at evening near Akal Takht sahib. Dhadi's use to sing the vaar related from historical events. Just like sidhu moosewala, in a form of song he actually sung the Vaar related to General Hari Singh Nalwa.

This song is a remix of folklore that was made for Great Soldier Arjan Valleiy(son of commander Hari Singh Nalwa). The song covers the time when British soldiers(in a big clan) attacked him when he was alone in his house, Arjan Valleiy fought with the limited ammunitions he had in his home and then took his *Gandasa* out and broke over those soldiers like a lion

Hi Guys doing quick translation for 3rd para of the song. Song is sung as an reference to person name Arjun and how he is going to fight and consequences:
khundiyaan de singg fass gye,
ve koi nitroo vadenve khaani,
dharti te khoon dulleya ve,
jivein tidke ghade chon paani,
o sheraan wangu yaar khad gaye,
chako,
o sheraan wangu yaar khad gaye,
vailly naal si jinna de yaari,
Translation: few words and reference
(Khundiyaan is stick with hook shape at the end but here it is compared with buffalo horn. Vadenve is referred to special feed that it given to increase the strength of buffalo. Normally when they fight they fight till one out of them loose horn and blood is all over the place)
Meaning: 2 people with bull strength are fighting and one with pure strength will win after blood shed.

'Arjan velly' was a virk jatt from ludhiana. landlord, who always helped the poor so much that once fighting for some poor man he broke the arm of a police man , after this incident he got the name 'arjan velly' , fond of traditional weapon axe(gandassi) which he always kept by his side.
During the '47 partition he safeguarded the muslims of his area and escorted them to malerkotla. Later he turned religious and spent of his life as a pious sikh man.
The incident encapsulated in 'Arjan Velly' song happened at the famous 'Jagranvaan fair' of punjab, where he along with his two friends thrashed all the thugs of pandori.
The real Punjab 😊. A peaceful place for irrespective of caste creed and relegion.

Okay so i don't think the run time is such a big concern for us - in India, we like to be taken on a ride from start to finish - like 3 idiots did - if it means a longer 3-hour run time, we love that! The longer the better actually esp. if it's done well - getting our money's worth - and also the philosophy is - we don't want good things to end so soon and we want it to continue and sit more with - of course as long as it's done well!
