You, sir, did a phenomenal job of giving clear and precise directions for this grout. I followed your instructions to the letter, kept the room as cool as I could (starting early in the AM), and my grout turned out great….with plenty of pot time. And I had no qualms mixing smaller batches in order to be careful and consistent. Thanks so much!!!

Thanks for the detailed mixing instructions. If you hadn’t shown the mixing in real time I would’ve added more water because at first it just does not look like the right mix, but then as you demonstrated it comes out perfect. I did 1 pound for my first batch and 2 pounds from my second batch and I’m about to start my third but wanted to stop and thank you for your video, because I too saw the other video discouraging the use of the ultracolor and almost didn’t use it.

Thank you so much for such an informative video. I decided to mix one pound and grout the floors behind the toilet first just to get a feel for it, and it went so smoothly that in 10 minutes or so I finished my whole project (a little under 25sq feet) with just one pound of grout. Since my tile is white and shiny I made sure to clean it right away with a sponge and a towel. It turned out great! No wasted material, clean tile and tools washed easy too.
    Thanks again 🙏

Best grout on the market hands down. I have 25yrs experience and I've learned my lessons with this grout as well as many others. If it's dialed in .......it's a dream to work with.

I don't care for mapei products. They aren't bad, but I don't think they're superior to Custom products.

Great video, thank you. We are about to use this grout to tile our kitchen. We will be following your advice. One thing I may add is that based upon my recent experience with the thinset mixing, I found that adding the water to the mixing bucket before adding the grout powder will ease the mixing process and reduce dry clumps of the powder, whether it’s grout or thinset. Thanks again for the video.

Great video summarizing everything I've researched so far! I was going to use the CQ product due to the fear about FA....but I discovered it was going to scratch the finish on my subway tile (I tested it, and it did scratch the glossy finish). I guess the media is much larger in CQ. I read that FA will not scratch it (or much less chance). Your tip to use distilled water is something I have not found on any other video. Great tip! One thing to add that can't hurt, some guys have said it's best to lower the temperature in the house the day you grout. They said they ask the homeowner to lower it to 68 degrees on tile day. I will use FA this weekend thanks to your great video. Thanks.

Just finished grouting an outdoor grill here in Phoenix. 2lb batches(hand stirred) using refrigerated distilled water. Started 6am with umbrella for shade. Plenty of work time and great color accuracy and consistency. Looks great!

Used your formula, 5#/17.5 oz distilled water. used paddle mixer (slowly)/slaked, then hand mixed. Had plenty of time. Had to wash it twice as much because I used charcoal grout on a grey porcelain floor tile (Lowes) with a rough surface to prevent tile staining.Gonna bring a garden hose in to facilitate changing rinse water. THX so much.

Thank you for your video. I bought this grout because the flooring store I bought it at didn't have the traditional grout in the color I needed. I knew the grout would dry fast after watching the Home RenoVision video. I am using the grout to fill in some deep crevices in the tiles along several inside and outside corners my walk in shower. To help fill the large crevices, I was using a quart ziplock bag to squeeze the grout in. I set the bag down to smooth out some of the grout and when I went to pick up the bag in about 15 to 20 minutes to lay down more grout, the bag was solid as a rock and very hot. I'm wondering if the grout hardened quicker because it was sealed in the plastic bag? I only got half the job done and will definitely be working much quicker the next time and also my wife will be helping. This grout definitely dries quicker but when it sets it is a much better grout!

I followed your directions and didn't have any problems. Weighed the powder, measured the water (RO) and mixed. I was hesitant but all was good. While mixing it looked like there wasn't enough water but I continued to work the powder into a nice mix. I live in Phoenix and was concerned about the low humidity but I had 15 to 20 minutes of working time. It's as easy as John G said, follow the instructions.

I allowed this grout to fully dry on an off cut to test Jeff's assertion that it is impossible to remove if allowed to dry on the tile. It came right off of these glossy porcelain tiles using an average razor scraper, as did the grout haze. So it seems that only highly porous tiles are at risk if the grout is left for too long before cleanup, so bear that in mind.

Do not use a mechanical mixer , mix it by hand , if you are mixing a full bag then use a dril on slow and don't overmix it , the more you mix the fazter it will go hard

👍Thanks for a very well done video
    Got just one question.
Got a small amount of grout for just replacing 8 small tiles. Can’t find my kitchen scale. Do you know how much volume of grout per pound?
Very hard to tell from the video, maybe around one cup per pound?
Also for a small batch I wonder about mixing it in a one gallon freezer bag.
Just knead it to your consistency then snip a corner. Seems like keeping the air out of it would give a little more time and make for easier cleanup.
    Thanks again.

    Question
Did you use sealer after using mapei ultra color plus fa
On your tiles after applying the grout?

    • @johng9562
      @johng9562  ปีที่แล้ว

Not as of today, which has been one year now. Since it is water, mold, and stain resistant, sealant is not mandated, but I was considering doing it anyway just to make more it like epoxy grout, which is totally waterproof.

  • @Wavelover33

This stuff is great and so easy to use. Just put it on and 10-15 minutes later wipe it with a sponge. Lots of working time for the amount I use per batch (2lbs mixed with just over 200ml of cold water - 220/230 ml). Lasts long enough to put it down and wipe. I don’t understand the fear of this product. It’s excellent and you can get the job done quickly plus the stuff is so much better lasting than the non FA stuff
