I had a 15 year old son and a beautiful 55 Chevy Belair 2 door hardtop which I had restored. I let it slip to him that I was maybe going to give it to him as he would be getting his drivers license soon. About a month later he ask me if he was still getting the 55 because he knew a guy that was going to trade him an old Honda motorcycle for it! He didn't get my car.

David Pringle @ I rebuilt and restored my high school and college driven 1965 fastback Mustang, I gave it to my son, He drove it twice after second ride he came up to me and ask if he could sell it to buy an S-10 truck, Said the car was for old guys and trucks was the cool thing at his school, I took car back and bought him the $3,500 S-10 he has since begged for for the car back, my son is 34 ys old now, I informed him my grandson gets the car in his senior year high school, My grandson told me he was going be coolest senior in his school(same school my son attended) he gets the car in the fall brings his friends by shows the car off to them, I like to listen what they say when they see it, Seems my grandson going cherish it same as I did..

I gave my son an early 80s Toyota convertible and within a month after he had it ?
he traded it for a piece of junk Chevy Camaro with a six cylinder engine in it …& it was just something he could wax:
and it looked like a hot rod… but it ran like a dog…
      Sad….

I truly appreciate this story. I am blessed to have my dads 57 Chevrolet 2dr ht it’s all original with the 283 he rebuilt back in mid 60s. I also have my first car a 67 Camaro ssrs350 I got in 77 and it been sitting since 82. Just recently losing our dad that was my hero and best friend makes me look back on all the memories of working on cars with my dad and him helping me on mine . It’s great to see your family so happy for you as my daughter understands as well that it’s more than just cars and hopefully my grandkids will as well. I better get ours cars back to making memories. Thank you for sharing your story and may the Lord bless you and your family.

I got a tear in my eye, watching that old beauty come out of that garage and get driven off on that trailer to begin a new life. What a beautiful car and family. You all keep that car no matter what. The memories that are already in it and the ones you all will make in it are worth all the money in the world.

Great story! Makes me happy to see history brought out to see the light of day again and be able to share it with family and friends. I have an 1948 Studebaker pickup that I got from my dad that I've had in storage for the past 17 years. I have lots of memories from when my dad had it and got to share with him when I pulled it out of the dust and mothballs last year. It's a warm feeling to see your dad's eyes light up when he talks about the past and wants to help bring the old truck back to life again. That old truck has sentimental value to me and would never be sold all because of my dad. Love You Dad!!!!

Just recently gave my 39 year old son a 72 Cutlass Supreme convertible that I've had for 25 plus years to enjoy with his wife and three kids. Nice cars that have been saved need to be enjoyed by the family. Not put away and left for years to slowly deteriorate. Now he is the caretaker of that Olds for the next 25 years or so and he can give it to one of his kids so they can enjoy. Keeping it in the family. Running, driving, having fun. I'm glad Bob is now doing just that. Thanks Jerry for that video. It made my week!

What a pleasant family! I was watching and wished I could've been there to enjoy the entire experience. The '55 Vette was the one that saved the car from being axed. When I was young I didn't warm up to the early generation models, but soon learned to love the beauty of them all. The Vette is American as apple pie and we all should be proud of it.

No disorder! Just growing up in the late 60's with a badass car and John Fogerty singing Bad Moon Rising! What a memory lane to go back and visit and touch a piece of your history in a time when kids could still be big dreamers and scared of the Vietnam War and being drafted! I don't blame you at all Bob for keeping the car one bit! I was born in 55 and the first time I saw a corvette was a 58 and like you her dad bought the car for her graduation! They are also mechanics! Family is well known in our little town. I've often wondered where Andrea Maddox's 58 went! The last I saw her in the car was probably 1962. Thankyou Bob for sharing your journey, I've enjoyed the ride!

I know my video and audio suffers and that is because I do all that work myself and do the interviews at the same time. I try to get the content there and maybe someday I can have somebody do the video work. I gave up on a TV show finally. I have to do this myself or it won't get done. Thanks very much.

A hell of a story! The year I was born. My Dad was a huge vintage car enthusiast. His most favorite was the 1958 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon, the red and white one with the fold down seats in the back. I guess I loved it so much because there was 8 of us kids and we all had a place to set, lol. I guess someone came along that wanted it more than my Dad and for the right price, he sold it. He was trying to buy a 57 Studebaker Silver Hawk but the owners garage caught fire and it was a total loss. That was one beautiful automobile and it ran just like my Dad liked them to run. I bought Dads 57 Chevy Wagon, I just couldn't imagine anyone else driving it but a Family Member. My brother was jealous so bought and modified a 56 Wagon. Dad was a ford guy and my brother and I were Chevy guys although I did own a nice Mustang for quite a while, now I wouldn't give them a plug nickel for a new car. They just don't make 'em like they used to!

Same here, but the comments were not made out of hatred. I grew up with a car hoarder and have been guilty of it myself. If he were not pushed, the car would have continued to sit, so if those comments served to push him in to actually doing something with the car, then consider it a blessing. Kudos to the family for supporting and helping push him into actually getting the car out. Now, enjoy it and take care of it!

What a Glorious moment for this family.
I agree with the others and keep it original.
Just tidy up the mechanicals to make it run well and safe and just keep it.
Give the rest a professional detail and that's it.
I seriously hope the family don't start fighting over it when Bob passes in the year 3000.

i found a disc off about a 58 vette, they used have a plastic disc in the trunk lid about 10 inches in diameter that had the corvette in it. i found on in the street in detroit in the gutter about 1960, have had a affection for those old vettes since. i rolled off the line in motor city circa 1954. you did a great job with the cheese cloth, that paint is a testament to chevy

Enjoyable story.. SO pleased the family is behind Bob and that they will all get to drive.. And remember the reason the car came into the family was respect for Bob's achievement by his dad.. Love to you all.. Keep those wheels turning.. Regards from New Zealand..

You know and that is true, like a barn find story I was writing for my column in Vette. The owner had a '63 convertible that had been modified in the day with a vintage, but mod front end, and the car had a great story, but he was taking all that away and going back stock to end up with a base engine convertible that obliterated the story.

There is a very big difference between a hoarder and a “preservation enthusiast”, lol. The hoarder will hold on to things for mental reasons. The preservation enthusiast feels the emotional connection with abundant clarity. For them it’s not a mental connection, it’s a REAL connection. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

    • @PatrickPeterVlogs
      @PatrickPeterVlogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Nah - People who restore have the knack of over restoring and putting more bucks into the car than its worth then putting the car in a garage where it then rarely ever gets driven...
Keep it 'survivor' and drive it guilt free not worrying about stone chips and losing money on it.

the whole deal with hoarding is who or what is in control. When you hoard so much it causes an environmental hazard, you have gone too far. But not with a 55 vette. Good save and good luck with restoring it.
