In this video, we traveled along an old railroad right of way, high up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to the Alpine Tunnel. (11,523 ft.) This is from a trip we took 10 years ago. Bob just recently found this footage from his old GoPro camera. It was just so beautiful, I thought we'd share it with you.
There were some spectacular views along the way. And some terrifying moments driving along the shelf roads. The Palisades were especially amazing. They call it an engineering marvel. They say there is scarcely 3 feet between one and eternity. And that's exactly how it feels driving over this stretch of road. Due to a rock slide, this part of the road in the video is no longer passable by vehicle. You can only hike or bike in. Hope you enjoy, Ramblin Pam

I sure do enjoy seeing all I have not seen that you too capture! Growing wise" was always told to have the sun to your back? Just imagine starting the same journey from the opposite sun cycle and seeing once again new as a Dutch😜

If time is on our side, therefore one would not deny! Does not make two but one of the other one can make 2 dreams come true! Speaking of the other one may confuse two but the one of the one in the mirror still makes two...

The old train routes over the Rocky Mountains are so beautiful and compared to the wagon routes they are not steep inclines. I wonder if the rock slide area is passable by foot. Thanks for sharing the video.

Yes Scott, from what I understand,, you can drive up as far as the Palisades. From there, you will have to hike or bike the rest of the way. The Alpine station is about 2 miles from the Palisades.

Watching the drive made my palms sweat! As is the road through Titus Canyon, is the road to Alpine Station one way? I sure would hate to have a meet along that road, someone would have to back up a long ways. To me it seems like a long hike just to see a walled-up tunnel but a visit to Alpine station would be nice. And as always, another great video and very informative.

Thanks Jake. The road is one lane. Every so often there's a small turn out. But, yes, people do have to sometimes back up.
